You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Don't be silly, fraggle, it's never the schools

Mistressiggi · 30/10/2020 13:42

We still have our magic ring of Covid impermeability

Thanks for the new thread!

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/10/2020 14:44

Checking in. Thanks for the new thread staff.

I'm really very worried about those figures in the older secondary age groups. It's making me even more determined to stay in my box at the front with all the windows and doors open, no matter how much the kids moan about being cold. I will allow coats sometimes and will also advise vests/base layers. I'm also going to be more conscious of wearing my mask whenever I'm not actively speaking to the whole class at the board.

I took dd bowling this morning. We'd been in the summer, the first week they were allowed to reopen. Back then it felt very safe and I wasn't worried at all, as they were only using alternate lanes so there was always at least 2m between any group. Now though, they've got all the lanes open again, so when we were sitting in our lane we were well within a metre of the people sitting in their lane behind us. And the family in the lane next to us (sharing the ball return) were not wearing their masks properly. It still felt safer than my classroom as there was more space, but we won't be going back any time soon as it isn't as safe as it was back in the summer.

WhyNotMe40 · 30/10/2020 14:47

Yesterday I went shopping in person for the first time in ages. It was rammed. Loads of people wearing sunflower lanyards or masks under noses.
No wonder cases are increasing

Walking in with my cuppa Brew !
Catching up on the latest.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/10/2020 15:45

Just been catching up with news whilst recovering from the gym. We really need a circuit breaker now but don't believe we'll get one.

Looks like hospitals are filling up.

Needs to include schools obviously or it's a waste of time and lost revenue all for political posturing.

Wish there were some grown ups due home to sort things out instead of grubby politicians

ChloeDecker · 30/10/2020 15:52

@Hercwasonaroll

Checking in.

The Franco Scottish one on another thread is claiming schools are covid secure Hmm

I cannot believe what I was reading there! Even Andrew Marr caught Gove out spouting that nonsense weeks back
CallmeAngelina · 30/10/2020 15:53

Anyone think that a certain poster might be Gove in disguise?
They certainly inspire similar feelings of frustration with every utterance.

Enoughnowstop · 30/10/2020 15:59

So, Morrison’s is giving school staff a discount. It is all over my social media. How long before there’s a ‘why do teacher’s get discounts’ thread?!

ohthegoats · 30/10/2020 15:59

Just walked through the shopping centre in Plymouth. It's bonkers. I almost had a panic attack. Too busy.

Augustbreeze · 30/10/2020 16:19

Warwick researchers have published a paper which shows a clear link between EOTHO and increased virus rates, they reckon it's responsible for 8-17% of current infections.....

This thread should be named "the one where we all shop in morrisons."

My slt even forwarded that to me!

Thanks for the thread staff.

Hercwasonaroll · 30/10/2020 16:23

My local FB page already has "why are teachers getting a discount?" thread. It's vile.

MrsHamlet · 30/10/2020 16:27

I think the vitriol spewed at us is the worst bit of the job. In general, the parents of the students I teach are perfectly pleasant some even grateful! but the public attacks are hideous. I've never really understood why either!

Hercwasonaroll · 30/10/2020 16:40

The vitriol is not nice. Now it's descended into "teachers think they're better than other keyworkers, that's why they're getting this". As if we decided Confused

Enoughnowstop · 30/10/2020 16:42

It’s OK. The discount lasts into the new year. Plenty of time to use it!

Augustbreeze · 30/10/2020 16:46

Maybe the CEO of Morrison's is a secret U4T member and it's a strategic move towards a new weekly Clap for Teachers which would make it just too embarrassing to "close" schools.....ever....

CountDuckulasKetchup · 30/10/2020 16:47

Posting here to stop me replying to the Scottish one. Do people really think I have more chance of picking up covid in the 15 minutes break I have at lunch where I stay at least 2m away from everyone (max 5 people) compared to the 6 hours of form/lessons/break and lunch supervision with over 30 kids in an equivalent sized room?

Saucery · 30/10/2020 16:49

Meh. I won’t be shopping in Morrison’s because the aisles at my local one are tiny and the clientele mostly maskless. 10% discount not worth 25% increase in my chances of catching Covid Grin
If there was a nice branch near me I might swap.
They were excellent with their courier- delivered boxes of essentials at the start of lockdown, I must say.

Mistressiggi · 30/10/2020 16:58

Morrison's discount doesn't apply to gin, I've already checked Grin

CallmeAngelina · 30/10/2020 17:01

"Do people really think I have more chance of picking up covid in the 15 minutes break I have at lunch where I stay at least 2m away from everyone"
Of course they don't. That one is deliberately setting out to rile and goad.
Luckily, they can't lock up this staffroom (although I expect they'd love to if they could).
