You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

@Augustbreeze

Wow *@Appuskidu* , classrooms are included!!!
Grin

Stay away from the dirty corridors and toilets though!

GravityFalls · 02/11/2020 12:22

Clearly wrong, you can’t catch Covid in a classroom. Which is just as well as my sixth formers are DEVOTED to coming up and standing about six inches away from me every time they want to tell me something. I mean they’re only just not tugging on my sleeve like a nursery child. WHY fgs? I try and sit well away from them then I turn round and they’re THERE.

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2020 13:20

I don't understand that infographic.. are the dangerous bits yellow? So, that's like everywhere with people...

On another thread (not a TAAT!!) someone trying to be nice and helpful suggested giving parents a choice of remote, in person or part time.

This is what they do in NYC. It took two weeks before my cousin was a broken shell of a woman.

noblegiraffe · 02/11/2020 13:35

Are the corridors not dangerous and yet that’s where we wear masks or are they not dangerous because we wear masks?

Augustbreeze · 02/11/2020 13:48

I can't find that article @Appuskidu can you share the link? I'd love to know what they're on about!

Weirdly, our 200-odd staff (note the use of the hyphen there!) have only 4 absent today!

I just taught a class of 12! Unheard of! 5:30 am start was as grim as you'd expect.
Sending solidarity to all.

GravityFalls · 02/11/2020 15:38

There are 1000 students on roll at college (roughly) of which 95 are SI today. And that’s without bubbles/few full classes sent home. Lost my shit at a classroom full of random students, some from our area, some hangers-on, sitting in the classroom next to the department office at lunch (which we’re supposed to let them do). Zero social distancing, less than in a normal class even, all packed into a small area, no windows open...I just cracked and shouted and threw them all out. I have to walk through them to get to the office for my lunch and it just suddenly felt so fucking UNFAIR. Why am I placed in situations that are literally illegal in the rest of the country that isn’t inside a school or college?

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2020 15:44

Yes, i was wondering how Joe Public will take to them all walking home in gaggles as they do...

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2020 15:45

That BBC infographic doesn't even show corridors!!

Piggywaspushed · 02/11/2020 15:46

My children are maggots mug appears at the end of that video!!

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/11/2020 16:12

Lol, who's teaching in marquees, really?!

They're paving the way for blended learning for older children... deffo.

Saucery · 02/11/2020 16:14

I know, GravityFalls, it’s ludicrous! Angry

MrsHamlet · 02/11/2020 16:18

Flurry of emails today on the subject of schools aren't safe... I'm not sending in my child...
Email from head sent home - we're bringing in masks in corridors
Flurry of emails from parents on the subject of masks as muzzles... I'm not sending in my child.
Sigh.

minisoksmakehardwork · 02/11/2020 16:31

Today was return to school day. Today was the same as every day pre-half term. Head during briefing said they had not received any changes to guidance so carry on and make sure we're following hands/face/space.

We've moved departments. They have crammed extra tables into classes not designed for the numbers they are now being asked to hold! Plus there appears to either be a leak in the sprinkler system or perhaps the roof, given the puddles in one room.

I got moaned at for opening the window by a student whose blazer got soaked in rain this morning. i did suggest they wore a coat to school... but we found a radiator that was on to hang their blazer over for the lesson.

And one lot of students are hell bent on mixing bubbles 'because there's nothing you can do Miss!' Er, I think not. A strongly worded email has gone to my department head as well as the person who organises duty rota. I am the only person assigned duty on their own for this area. So either I'm really good, someone has it in for me or they've overlooked this. I'm not sure which of the latter two it is.

WhyNotMe40 · 02/11/2020 16:35

I tried wearing a mask today in the mosh pit year 10 corridor at changeover. Lots of stares and looks from staff and students alike.
Walked into the lesson "why are you wearing a mask miss?" "I'm practicing for when we all will have to"
"I don't understand miss, on Thursday we come and sit together in class and on the canteen, but we are not allowed to meet up outside out of school- why?"
"Because, education, exemption, I don't make the rules...."

phlebasconsidered · 02/11/2020 16:46

Just popping in to say my sister (a reception teacher) has now tested positive for the second time. She feels worse this time. She first had it end of March and her youngest was in hospital with it. So if you have had it, still keep up mad sanitising!

minisoksmakehardwork · 02/11/2020 16:46

I can't believe they've not been mandated in your corridors yet @WhyNotMe40. Our school might be lacking in social distancing but masks in communal areas were brought in for the sept return to school. Kids might not like it, or the hand sanitiser, but unless exempt, they all have face coverings and most of them don't fuss about sanitiser. There are a lot who take the sanitiser and then shake it onto the floor straight away though.

minisoksmakehardwork · 02/11/2020 16:47

Oh @phlebasconsidered - that's rubbish for your sister. I hope she feels better soon. Dad has been diagnosed with long covid after having it in April/May this year.

NeurotrashWarrior · 02/11/2020 16:49

Oh my goodness that's awful for her, she must be so worried about her daughter too.

motherrunner · 02/11/2020 16:54

@phlebasconsidered That’s awful. Wishing her a speedy recovery 💐

Frlrlrubert · 02/11/2020 16:54

4 year old crawled into bed with me an hour before my alarm was due to go off this morning.

Other than that a fairly successful day. I could hear my phone buzzing period 4 but ignored.

Yep, 4 year old sent home from nursery after lunch with a temperature. She's currently asleep after DH administered calpol. Going to try to book her a test this evening.

I've gathered textbooks and brought them home to set cover for tomorrow, when I send the 'a member of my household has symptoms' email (none specific as we don't get paid if the head can argue it's a childcare issue). Bollocks.

motherrunner · 02/11/2020 16:55

So BoJo says his aim is to regularly test those in "vulnerable institutions" including hospitals, care homes, schools and universities.

Guess we’re no longer ‘Covid secure’.

HerdyGerdy · 02/11/2020 16:59

Feels like almost admittance of the truth there, mother.

MrsHamlet · 02/11/2020 17:00

But mother... we have hazard tape! How can we not be safe??
