You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Pigs are scary! Shock and cows...

SaltyAndFresh · 27/08/2020 09:44

When I was being pasted for asking someone why she said she'd refuse to allow her daughter to wear a mask, she turned it on me and demanded to know if I'd be cleaning and keeping the 2m distance. We really are dealing with some exceptionally stupid and selfish people.

I might walk if it gets too much.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/08/2020 09:47

@WhyNotMe40 sending as many calming vibes as I can. This is just utter shit. Thanks

We are so used to being able to put measures into place to both curtail risks to pupils and us and strategies to manage issues; behaviour, learning etc.

This is is so beyond our control in so many places due to crappy buildings and the fact that schools are utterly over crowded, adding a terrible government not to mention any issues with our own management teams, that it's near impossible to avoid the overwhelming anxiety that naturally comes with dealing with all the above, and so much more in our own lives.

I really wish we could put more faith in things like track and trace and testing etc.

One if the few good things I can think of that helps me (I have to do this) is that local authorities have access to all the data and are to be managing it locally, which I would really hope would help to close schools if needed. (This only works for short periods.)

CallmeAngelina · 27/08/2020 09:48

@Piggywaspushed

I posted that about the kits yesterday Grin
Sorry, Piggy! Blush Missed it!
Piggywaspushed · 27/08/2020 09:49

brains of the operation I like mrs!

Is anyone else mistrusted in their school because they are 'so clever' (for which read too clever by half : piss off) ?! Or is that just me...

Um no. For some reason I come across as a bumbling idiot when I speak to adults.

That should be reassuring - but isn't that the local PHE role, and so is being given over to Dido Harding? I don't have confidence that information will be acted upon as she is political not independent - there will be pressure to suppress outbreak information. Rather than pressure to suppress outbreaks...

motherrunner · 27/08/2020 10:00

@Piggywaspushed That’s me. I was the only one who noticed we would be having a 20 minute break come Sept. I have to choose my battles!

Nope, generally ignored here. Never one of the cliques either. Maybe I'm just crap at teaching and so shunned, don't know.

I notice this sort of thing, mention them, get ignored

motherrunner · 27/08/2020 10:04

@WhyNotMe40 Sadly familiar.

Well I need to get out otherwise I’m going to be wallowing in my back to school self pity.

MrsHamlet · 27/08/2020 10:04

I spot them, mention them, get huffed at, then ignored.
Most staff don't bother raising things because we know what the outcome will be.

Saucery · 27/08/2020 10:05

I found that mentioning the most current research into transmission, symptoms and local cases was not welcome. I was then at the receiving end of the sort of patronising lecture a know-it-all Yr5 might get 🙄.
Of course, then following it up with ‘DH says......’ got a better response, due to his job and links with official Public Health departments. As if I can’t read, have a grasp of epidemiology or know anything due to 40-odd years on this planet.
I’m through with taking direction from people sat mostly in large airy offices tbh.

RigaBalsam · 27/08/2020 10:17

Sorry to everyone nervous about going back. I feel the same. My Hod asked me if I was ready to go back. I replied that I felt like a giant lab rat in a major experiment. She said she feels the same and we will have to look after each other.

Hard though when we will never see each other. Also got a cover period on my one and only late start. Others have 4 10.15 starts. Guess nothing is fair.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/08/2020 10:24

@WhyNotMe40 yeah I pretty much clutch at straws while I'm paddling furiously to keep from going under...

I genuinely don't know other than our head has regularly shared with us details of meetings with the local phe teams, with names, and one we know who used to have a school nurse role. It sort of feels, locally mind you, that individuals who do potentially have access to the info are working together a lot. But, who the fuck knows. Im being exceptionally positive there.

NeurotrashWarrior · 27/08/2020 10:25

Probably very naively positive.

monkeytennis97 · 27/08/2020 10:29

I'm not plastering a smile on for anyone. Couldn't sleep last night for worrying about DH and I. This is shit.

I don't seem to be able to get anyone bothered about it. My DH is always laid back but he couldn't seem to give a crap.

Is he a teacher too?
noblegiraffe · 27/08/2020 10:46

I’m like a ‘dying wasp’ with my continuous teacher threads. I haven’t posted that many!

SaltyAndFresh · 27/08/2020 10:53

@monkeytennis97 no. He was going to train actually, but his specialism isn't in demand and we can't risk it. He's just a very blasé sort of person and doesn't worry about anything unless it's right in front of his face. I'm not finding it helpful.

MrsHamlet · 27/08/2020 10:56

Masks now allowed in communal areas in my school

Ah I see. My DH is a secondary teacher too.

BelleSausage · 27/08/2020 10:59

I am so upset. I’ve just checked rooming on SIMs and it appears that apart from Yr7 they will be moving about.

So utterly business as usual except for hand sanitizer!
