You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Help me out here please! These appeals ... are they appealing FOR their mock grades or USING them to prove something else. Because I have got seriously confused

They are appealing to have their mock grade considered instead. They will be given the mock grade if it's shown to be valid. However, if the CAG is lower than the mock, the CAG will be given instead.

That's my understanding.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 19:37

Right. That's what I thought. Thank you.

FrippEnos · 15/08/2020 19:43

What have I missed about NEA?

I have looked but can't find anything. Sorry

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 19:45

If they did it and it was marked before March 20th it counts as a valid mock

FrippEnos · 15/08/2020 19:51

OK thanks.

I have running marks up to that date, but they were working on there NEA on the 20th as that was the last day that I had them.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 19:53

Would be worth a punt though - it's free!

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2020 20:27

I've just come in. What's this about NEAs? I am not sure we finished them for A level but I did for GCSE. I asked for them to be put on a databank and was told that wouldn't be necessary...

To answer something from a while back, I gave some NEAs lower than mock, where NEA was poorer, for example for one girl who got a 9 for GCSE mock.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 20:28

@Piggywaspushed they can count as valid mocks as long as they were completed before March 20th and marked before the CAG went in

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2020 20:38

Which they were but how would any one know??

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2020 20:40

Am just panicking about marks not being formally recorded.

FrippEnos · 15/08/2020 20:42

But may CAG was based on NEA and mocks.

This was how we were told to generate the CAG in the first place.

I'm sure there was some guidance about how to mark the NEA and then use that and the mock to generate a mark/grade and subject order.

Argh.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 20:47

An example of one of my students:
Mock B (one mark off A) in Jan
NEA A*
CAG A
Calculated grade B

I'm hoping we can appeal with the NEA as the validated grade for her to get the A

TheHoneyBadger · 15/08/2020 20:48

Argh indeed.

The bbc are trying. Maybe they could give this to bojo and fellow chimps to put in a leaflet for all homes?

TheHoneyBadger · 15/08/2020 20:48

Notice it’s all Mum’s fault as per

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2020 20:59

It might have varied by subject but in mine the exam board basically told us not to mark it, but we could consider the impact of fully or partially completed NEA. But that was informal. The NEA was even taken off our CAG spreadsheet thing.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 21:03

I'm really not sure what we were told any more. But mine was in and marked ready for standardising because of our internal deadline - I put the marks in sims as I marked it because I'm a dweeb. The other class was slightly behind the timeline for various reasons. But I'm going to fight for my kids. That's my job.
I think if you'd got evidence of achievement, you should be able to use it. There's nothing to lose.

monkeytennis97 · 15/08/2020 21:26

Getting quite fun on that thread now! Go @noblegiraffe and @sunseekin Smile

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2020 21:31

I asked, in usual prescient fashion, for a column to be added to SIMS and was told no need..

sunseekin · 15/08/2020 21:31

@monkeytennis97

Getting quite fun on that thread now! Go *@noblegiraffe* and *@sunseekin* Smile
@monkeytennis97 It’s bonkers! Am I head girl or you *@noblegiraffe* ?? I can’t help but hope there is just one crazy cat with lots of logins!
MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 21:34

What's wrong with being the head girl anyway?!
Bloody hell, @Piggywaspushed

monkeytennis97 · 15/08/2020 21:51

OMG that poster is really winding me up.. different perspective. Try raising a severely disabled DC. I am really angry now.

Sorry everyone not on that thread Smile

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 21:54

Since I've only ever been a teacher, I am not entitled to an opinion.
But do I want the child whose mum has terminal cancer squished into my room maskless for two hours at a time? No. Will she come in? Of course she will because she wants "normal". But the danger to her mum is real. I feel sick thinking about it.

noblegiraffe · 15/08/2020 21:55

Oh they’re ad-homing to try to stop me pointing out who they are.

Exact same tactic used by other posters from that group.

Attack teachers in general.

Attack the poster in particular.

Diversion tactics.
