You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

@MrsHamlet I know. CrazySad

Keepdistance · 15/08/2020 21:58

So 'dad' is off work 22d...
Potentially if dc ill first 14d then parents both get ill and they are both off till day 24.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 21:58

@noblegiraffe their tactics are rather like the girls I went to school with who taught me how to deal with stroppy teen girls. Vile.

Hercwasonaroll · 15/08/2020 21:59

That poster is bonkers.

Why do they always think we don't live in the real world?

I'm dreaming if of a parallel universe where corona doesn't exist.

@TheHoneyBadger

Argh indeed.

The bbc are trying. Maybe they could give this to bojo and fellow chimps to put in a leaflet for all homes?

But surely child 2 has been exposed to Dad, so how are they not still potentially carrying an infection when they come out of quarantine?
AugustBreeze · 15/08/2020 22:24

Something like that has been on the NHS website for months, will try and find it.

I guess the idea, as with all the rules when you stop and think about it, is to keep the risks reasonably low, nothing is 100% certain. So the family virus has been swirling round the household for a while and that's more important than that Child 2 has been exposed to Dad's infection late on. In a sense, they've all been infected anyway.

Sorry, not expressing myself very well! Am sure there's a more scientific way of explaining.....

•askmehowiknow• is an “old” poster with a new username, isn’t it. Thought I recognised the tone, and I think most of you being targeted were also argued with under their old name. Apologies if everyone else has already worked this one out!

Frlrlrubert · 15/08/2020 23:28

That other thread has go me thinking - has anyone else thought about the fact that the pupils we generally sit on the front row (and support more) will possibly loosely correlate to pupils least likely to follow the 'Covid safely' rules both inside and outside school', for a multitude of reasons?

Enoughnowstop · 15/08/2020 23:44

I don’t get it! Why do these people not understand that if teachers are off sick, schools will close or operate without qualified teachers in front of classes with random work set by the teacher next door who doesn’t know where the class is up to? What is so hard to understand about rising infections mean teachers off - potentially for months? And no one is even considering the impact of a teacher death on 7 year olds, let alone exam classes with next to no time left to get through the exam specs. Arrgh!! Are they really so stupid that they can’t see the bigger picture?

noblegiraffe · 15/08/2020 23:45

Are they really so stupid that they can’t see the bigger picture?

No, they think the pandemic is a hoax and therefore schools will remain open because teachers won’t get infected.

Good point about the front row kids being more likely to be rule-breakers.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 23:46

The one student I'm most worried about has done no work in lockdown, is an enormous 16 year old who frightens a lot of the staff and students, but will work for me if I sit next to him and encourage him. It's going to go tits up very quickly in that group.

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 23:48

And they don't give a shiny shit because (repeat after me) we're all work shy lefties who have too much holiday and don't live in the real world. If we get sick or die, who cares?

Enoughnowstop · 15/08/2020 23:49

How anyone can say 40k deaths is a hoax is beyond me. I feel I should die to prove a point!

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 23:50

But then you'd be even more work shy and just prove the point

Enoughnowstop · 15/08/2020 23:53

I guess! Oh well, just gonna cross fingers and hope then!

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 23:56

I have to say that I am in awe of @noblegiraffe's commitment to arguing with stupid!

Frlrlrubert · 15/08/2020 23:56

I love the thinking that if R=1 right now you can only infect 1 person, whether you're in contact with 10 people or 300 people.

You couldn't possibly understand the maths or science better than them, now get back in that classroom and teach my kids maths and science!

The virus respects rules. That's why teachers are safe: one stern look and it won't dare put a foot wrong.
Iamnotthe1 · 16/08/2020 00:04

I can just picture that discussion:
Oh shit! Too many students are going to appeal and get their grades changed. What do we do?
Fuck knows... just shut it down and pray no-one notices.

Good question. Are they assuming that child has had it but without symptoms? Could be a big mistake if child never went near mum when she was sick and dad was doing the childcare and less careful as he felt fine.

Think I’m unusual (and ignoring school policy) as I tend to sit the kids who need help or have behaviour issues on the ends of rows and ideally at the back. Mind you this was in a science lab with room for me to move around and offer support or quiet words without it being in front of the whole class.

With more able and cooperative kids at the front I can see easily that they’ve got it, know what they need to do and will cope while I do my rounds with others who aren’t on task. They also keep me sane
