You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

@twinkletoesimnot it's new - swipe to the left on a post and options appear, the second along is Quote

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/08/2020 12:27

@twinkletoesimnot

That also *@Iamnotthe1*

While we are at it - can someone explain how I get the quotation marks when posting a copied post please ?

I’m just using the quote function from the post. I’m on my mobile but not app and just click the three dots and then choose quote.....
Hercwasonaroll · 15/08/2020 12:42

Yes noble I did think that having no option to change the number of people in the room was odd. If you're in a room and no one has it, you can't catch it.

noblegiraffe · 15/08/2020 12:48

That national geographic website makes 2 hour lessons seem like a really bad idea

But that’s not necessarily the case if it reduces the number of people you’re exposed to.

Who is more at risk? A secondary teacher teaching 150 of different kids for one of hour lessons a day or a primary teacher teaching the same 30 kids for 6 hours?

The obvious answer is it depends on whether any of the kids have it.

If yes, you’d rather be the secondary than the primary teacher in terms of having them in your class.

But the probability of one of the kids in your class having it is higher for secondary.

Thanks @Hercwasonaroll and @AugustBreeze Smile

Hercwasonaroll · 15/08/2020 13:20

It's like a really bad game of would you rather!

Less exposure to people should in theory be a good thing. However I think some heads have forgotten that the more time you spend with a group, the more chance of catching it. A fine balance I'm sure.

@Iamnotthe1

School start delayed by two weeks as a result of teacher quarantine.

Could you imagine the U4T outrage?

That is my number 1 outcome for the trip!

(Besides meeting up with all you lovelies)

@CallmeAngelina

This France trip... can I have a window seat please?
I’m in for the french trip-can we sit in the back row?!
Saucery · 15/08/2020 13:42

Strict Year Group order, I’m afraid.

Appuskidu · 15/08/2020 13:44

I’m Reception-do I have to sit at the front or the back? Grin
Saucery · 15/08/2020 13:47

Front. With the sick bucket and the roll of blue tissue. Grin

Honestly, when DS got the school bus Yrs7-11 the seating order was sooooo strict, all imposed by the boys themselves. Cheeky Yr 8s who went to the back seat got telt. Grin

Argh I'm getting a pasting on the 'if you could choose any' thread!

WhenSheWasBad · 15/08/2020 14:21

Yeah you are a bit monkey

There was one comment about teacher being at the lower end of the risk scale for Covid.
Obviously it is at the moment, because schools shut their doors to 95% of pupils. That doesn’t mean it will stay low risk when everyone is back.

I like that thread as it clearly shows that no one is keen on option E (don’t open the schools).

monkeytennis97 · 15/08/2020 14:32

Thank you to anyone who jumped on that thread to speak up. I am seething with all of those saying 'AAA and only A'. They just don't give a fuck about anyone inside a classroom.

twinkletoesimnot · 15/08/2020 14:41

@monkeytennis97
I just bit on that thread, saying basically what you just said.

Selfish twunts!

monkeytennis97 · 15/08/2020 14:43

@twinkletoesimnot thank you I just saw it ThanksThanks

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/08/2020 15:03

I'd love to come on the French trip but I don't have a valid passportShock. Mine ran out 10 years ago and I've never renewed it as I never go abroad any more.

That national geographic article could do with more variables. Like noble said, I want to be able to add how many people are in the room. I'm pretty sure I'm safer when teaching my nurture groups because they have fewer pupils in (but then again, they move around a lot more often, and like to come REALLY close to me, so maybe not)

Appuskidu · 15/08/2020 15:37

I see the ‘valid mock’ definition is out-what do you think, secondary colleagues? Would an AS count if no mocks were ever taken??

noblegiraffe · 15/08/2020 15:55

They haven’t specified that the mock needed to be sat in Y13 have they, Appu?

In which case the key bit is ‘Substantial coverage of the content normally assessed, for example assessment equivalent to one paper or one non examination assessment task.‘

AS is 40% coverage but I don’t know if acceptable as it doesn’t cover any A2 content.

Appuskidu · 15/08/2020 16:05

Hmm, it’s still not very clear then, is it?

I like the way that schools minister Nick Gibb is in charge of the task force to sort out the appeals. Will we read about him being fully satisfied that ‘everything was done properly’?!

MrsHamlet · 15/08/2020 16:26

Based on that, our mocks are invalid. We set our own grade boundaries to make the results look good.
At GCSE, Lang would be fine on the papers sat but Lit would not. At A Level, the same.
It says "within the programme of study" so I would hope AS would count.

Danglingmod · 15/08/2020 16:56

Interesting point that if the mock is higher than the CAG, they can't have the mock grade?

Iamnotthe1 · 15/08/2020 17:01

"In circumstances where the centre assessment grade was lower than the mock grade, the student will receive the centre assessment grade."

It's nice to know that teachers' judgements are only valid if they keep the grades from getting too high.
