You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

To be fair, we don't currently know anymore than the phrase "blended learning", but we likely will know more quicker than our English colleagues. As for today though, nothing other than I'm in school in a week's time and am losing a week's holiday!

fuckweasel · 21/05/2020 19:27

I'm trying to go through the logistics in our school in my head. Our students mostly come by bus up to an hour and a half away so I think it will be a week on a week off. Also, how to do science practicals in my tiny lab! Only designed for the legal 20 student maximum! We have the added bonus of being a 3-18 through school! So very tiny ones on site too.

pinkrocker · 21/05/2020 19:37

Piggy we need to have that link ready on our clipboards ready to share Grin when people ask what teachers are doing all day

Sureitwillbegrand · 21/05/2020 20:06

Why was this advice not released 9 weeks ago?

DfE have just released guidance for parents of Secondary aged children at home. An interesting read
www.gov.uk/guidance/help-secondary-school-children-continue-their-education-during-coronavirus-covid-19

ineedaholidaynow · 21/05/2020 20:16

That doesn't really help schools though does it!

WhyNotMe40 · 21/05/2020 20:46

Well I noticed that it did quite clearly state that schools were still responsible for a child's education not the parents. And that schools are still pastorally responsible.
Which does mean that those schools who (if they exist) who are providing very little or nothing, will have to step up.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 20:50

I did approve of the may for online lessons thougn

ineedaholidaynow · 21/05/2020 20:51

I wonder when the next guidance will be published. This document could have been sent out much sooner

WhyNotMe40 · 21/05/2020 20:52

One bit worried me in that guidance - something about if you are finding it hard to motivate your child get the school to talk to them.
Which sounds perfectly reasonable unless it means we teachers will be personally responsible for phoning round all the students who do not complete our work. Which I can't say I would be happy with.

Danglingmod · 21/05/2020 20:57

I think it's pretty reasonable full stop and doesn't ask any more in any area of schools than we're almost all already doing?

CarrieBlue · 21/05/2020 20:58

@fuckweasel - have you seen cleapss about practicals under Covid restrictions? I’ll be taping metre sticks together!

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 21:11

This wishy washy thing has appeared

www.gov.uk/guidance/adapting-teaching-practice-for-remote-education

But it's good wishy washy.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 21:11

oh, just noticed that's been there since 5 May...

TheHoneyBadger · 21/05/2020 21:17

Sansa thanks but I disagree. I’m “good enough” and sometimes better for year 7, passable for year 8. Our school starts gcse in year 9 which is a real step up and I’m made to teach them (was told I wouldn’t be when I agreed to job). It’s not fair on them or me really. They need and deserve a specialist.

Off to read parent guidance

countdowntonap · 21/05/2020 21:19

Look at this awful post in the ‘Headteachers’ section of the TES

... “ Make it clear that you're expecting all staff in on 1.6.20 and they will be doing whatever you've decided.“

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 21:20

Wow.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 21:22

I find the views that some headteachers have of their staff so disturbing.

As it says in the Dyson article 'presenteeism at its most lethal'

TheHoneyBadger · 21/05/2020 21:23

Gosh how us and them. Time to get a gp appointment piggy.

Asuitablecat · 21/05/2020 21:26

Sounds like my ex head. But there's no way she'd have a user name.like.'soooooooooexcited'.

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/05/2020 21:27

Sci fi evidence for school reopening out tomorrow apparently...

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/05/2020 21:28

Jeeeze that tes post!

Cantaloupeisland · 21/05/2020 21:30

'further information will be provided shortly' on year 10 in that new document. Ffs they've been saying that for nearly two weeks!

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 21:37

Don't know if people have seen the Chartered College response

www.tes.com/news/coronavirus-exclusive-why-open-schools-june-teachers-ask-pm

FrippEnos · 21/05/2020 22:08

countdowntonap

I wonder how that HT will respond when/if they come back with section 44 of the employments rights law.
