You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

I know setphasers my point was just that it's not only schools with already longer holidays who will be affected, it is ones with the regular length ones too. I seriously doubt we will ever see the time returned to us again though legally staff are entitled to it.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 16:19

Discussion ongoing with school union reps. t is tied up with other wholesale changes.

Just found this :

Even better than that Piggy, was the MPs complaining about going back Hmm

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 21/05/2020 16:28

I think we'll get the time back next summer. Anyway, we'll see. Things change so quickly now it's hard to be sure of anything. I'm just glad to have a bit more of a skiffy as to what's going on.

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/05/2020 16:43

Maybe it was section 44 of the employment act instead? I’m sure someone said two different things and I’m not sure which is correct. I’ve got a feeling section 44 might be about unsafe working practices and they used that.

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 16:56

I am storing these gems.

We were supposed to be going back on the 17th August, but now it'll be the 11th, so will be losing 4 days of holiday. I'm told the Local Negotiating Committees will be sorting it at Authority level, which probably means we'll get 4 random added one day holidays through the year. I'd be content with that, I suppose, as long as they're not all Fridays (which are already half days in my Local Authority).

More concerned about having all staff in in June, with no word on why or what for. I'm happy to go in, rearrange my classroom (as much as is safe for me to do on my own), teach some new S1s if they come up for transition. What I'm not delighted about is the prospect of whole staff meetings when there's absolutely no need. Also, we don't have a staff room in my school and our staff base (despite the fact that we're one of the biggest departments) is about 1/4 of the size of a classroom, so we'd fit maybe 4 people in. The photocopier is at the far end, so we probably won't be allowed to use it to allow people to get there safely.

MurrayTheDemonicTalkingSkull · 21/05/2020 16:59

(We already have a 7 week summer every year - an extra week to next year's one would be mental!)

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 17:00

I saw that bea although I must say it is ridiculous. They can clearly WFH and it is a cynical.move by that toad Rees Mogg

Saucery · 21/05/2020 17:15

There is going to be another ‘bubble’ of the staff taking their breaks at the same time, even with the staggered breaks for the children. There will be at least 6 in the staff room at one time. I might keep my lunch and drinks in a cool bag in the car and have my breaks there.

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/05/2020 17:37

Are we getting a specialist support line??? Are we frontline? I thought we already had the highest rate of depression and anxiety as it is....

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/05/2020 17:37

(Re today's briefing!)

SansaSnark · 21/05/2020 17:38

@NeurotrashWarrior No, because we aren't heros ;)

I thought that whole bit was so disingenuous given how his party have slashed mental health services. What about putting some money back into CAMHS etc?

My secondary is gearing up for mid June

All JRM wants is the rabble rousers back. Its appalling. But that awful Henry Smith speaks volumes for how many Brexiteer Tories think.

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 21/05/2020 18:15

Does anyone else think it's ironic that teacher's of y10 and 12 in Scotland have more of an idea of the plan when they return, on the 11th August, than us in England when they return 2 months earlier?

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 18:16

It's Tory MP, Robert Halfon, who has spoken up most against these plans. He was the one who made the euthanasia comment.

DfE have just released guidance for parents of Secondary aged children at home. An interesting read

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 19:05

Has everyone seen the thing in active about Qs for the independent SAGE?

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2020 19:08

That's actually quite well written from the DfE. However, doesn't shine any light on the face to face thing!

Not to mention that, according to my HT, we will only get 48 hours notice of if we are going to open or not.
So we could be told Friday night or even Saturday morning if we are going to open or not on the 1st.
