You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

So we've had our plan for year 10 - year split into groups doing a couple of hours a day of the same subject, e.g. Group 1 maths 9-11, group 2 maths 11.30-1.30 etc. Staying in bubbles in the same rooms, no breaks or lunch.

Still means all kids in every day, as well as all the key worker group. What happens if the DfE now release guidance saying they only need to do the odd day!

cheesecurdsandgravy · 20/05/2020 10:41

@MollyAtTheFolly that’s bloody awful!

SansaSnark · 20/05/2020 10:44

@MollyAtTheFolly That is a disgusting response- how does not live streaming lessons = sabotaging lessons?

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 10:44

I'm going to leave that window open on the comments section. I will go back and read some more whenever I'm feeing despair. It reassures me that critical thinking and an ability to understand how the institutions of society operate and ideally 'cooperate' still exists.

minisoksmakehardwork · 20/05/2020 10:46

@Cantaloupeisland, our school seem to be going against DFE advice and are only having pupils in for 1 hour a week. M-Tu is year 10 and W-Th is year 12. No idea what they are doing with Friday. They obviously also have key-worker pupils in although they are in a separate part of the school. The year 10's and 12's won't be in long enough to worry about lunch or break times plus the hour between means less contact between pupils coming and going.

MollyAtTheFolly · 20/05/2020 10:47

I agree.

I can appeal within 7 days apparently - will think of a response and get it off in the next few days.

minisoksmakehardwork · 20/05/2020 10:55

@NeurotrashWarrior - as a completely inept mathematician myself, WR has been a sanity saver in our house. Even if our son hasn't been able to understand the concept, I have learned enough with WR to be able to explain it to him in a way which he can understand and replicate. This is also going to be beneficial when I am LSA'ing as I am improving my own knowledge of maths.

SansaSnark · 20/05/2020 11:33

@minisoksmakehardwork My school is doing similar, but half days of about 2.5 hours, spread out through the week. The DfE advice for Y10/12 is so vague that I don't think doing a part time offer will be a problem.

If they say all need to be in all days, I am not sure what will happen- except that our reopening will be even more delayed, because SLT will have to come up with a new plan, consult with union reps, get it signed off by trustees and so on. As it is, they have already said we won't be read to have Y10/12 in by 1st June.

minisoksmakehardwork · 20/05/2020 11:37

@SansaSnark, this is why it bugs me that yesterday I saw a risk assessment about the pupils returning for schools and today I cannot find it. Essentially the trust has said it is down to individual schools to plan and return as best they can, that they will be supported to do what is best for their staff and pupils as no two schools are alike and the DFE guidance is just that...

@cheesecurdsandgravy - motion accepted!

I am not seeing much on MN at the moment which will tempt me to part with my cash! There is a banner at the topic asking me to subscribe - not sure if I want to pay to be kicked on a regular basis

Doing a happy dance because ds’s English teacher has emailed saying next half term is all on Animal Farm. You might remember me struggling with A Christmas Carol and lamenting the absence of George Orwell in the texts for ks4. We can get our teeth stuck into Orwell (or at least I can which will help me try and summon up some enthusiasm in ds).

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/05/2020 11:49

Thanks for that Denmark table btw piggy

There is no way and I very nearly did. There is no support from teachers. Only in here and there are some vile people on here now.

SansaSnark · 20/05/2020 11:51

Not only am I not subscribing to mumsnet premium, I'm also running adblock when I access the site Wink

pinkrocker · 20/05/2020 11:53

I wish adblock worked on a mobile!!!

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2020 11:56

Back form learning how to live stream videos on GC... which sort of works... can't see anyone else though at the same time!!

I have a creeping sensation that the gov are NEVER going to release guidelines for year 10 and 12 and 'leave it up to schools'.

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2020 11:58

PMQs soon....

I think this is very likely.

Nice bit of balance at the end but the mum (sounds so familiar I reckon she has been contacted via MN) who worries about her idle DS!!??

Get the fucker out of bed , love. As they say on MN 'parent him'.

These are the same parents , no doubt, who let their kids stay in bed til whenever all weekend and all holiday. In the smug zone with my DS who gets up at 7am every day!

CallmeAngelina · 20/05/2020 12:15

Oh ffs! I've ended up being quoted in the Daily Fucking Mail!!! They've had a field day cherry-picking all the teacher-bashing posts they can find on the "no criticism" thread and apparently I "moaned" when making a perfectly sensible point about us being hung out to dry by the government.
Time for a name-change, I think.

RigaBalsam · 20/05/2020 12:15

Boris said the TTI will be up and running by 1st June.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 12:16

I’m definitely one of those parents who let their teenagers sleep in on weekends and holidays. I’m jealous that my body and the cat won’t let me do the same
