You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet - thank you for this.

I am sure that MN can see how annoyed teachers are at the moment. Though we like debate - some of the taunting has demonstrated some dreadful behaviour to such an extent that some of us are back on TES!

As a profession we like to be supportive. However we will be active in reporting inappropriate comments and falsehoods.

In any case thank you for removing the Staffroom from Active.

@RigaBalsam thank you for that NEU write to your MP link. Have filled it in and passed on the link to other people who I know have major reservations about the June opening.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 16/05/2020 11:13

@FrippEnos. I should have read your comment first!

Right I am going in - wish me luck

I'm done for the weekend.

I shall return on Monday Hopefully I shall be able to stay way and not get drawn back to MN.

Have a good weekend.

RigaBalsam · 16/05/2020 11:34

Some Mumsnetters should worry they are agreeing with Katie Hopkins. If that happens you must know you are wrong.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/05/2020 11:36

It’s all hideous. Every thread. I did report the poster who kept repeating that we’re not working. How is stirring up hate and mistrust between parents and teachers making parents lives easier. Noticed another one saying if you don’t like it resign, they’ll be plenty of qualified people to take your place. How can they be so unaware of the state of recruitment and retention?

TheHoneyBadger · 16/05/2020 11:37

There’ll

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2020 12:25

OK, I started an AMA thread and it's nice! The water is lovely over there!

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2020 12:49

Well done @piggywaspushed

Interesting stats here:

Geraniumblue · 16/05/2020 13:28

Isn’t it all hideous? I am a ta going back 1st June to look after (babysit) a group of year 6s. No ppe. I am aware that the risks for me are not huge - we have airy classrooms at least. But I am very angry with the government who could not be bothered to lock down earlier and who seem to be doing zero tracking and tracing. They could have made it so much safer by now.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/05/2020 14:01

Getanium are you disgruntled that you’re being told you’ll be taking classes when presumably that’s not in your job description? I think it’s bloody cheek that the government just assumes badly paid TAs will take on classes of 15.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 16/05/2020 14:01

I am sorry but I could not help myself but to start a funding thread

Think I am a glutton for punishment ventured into a dark thread saying about flowers being ridiculous and we lack critical thinking essentially.

I must stop. My new week's resolution.

Really sad at the number of awful people in this country. Wonder what they are like in real life.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 16/05/2020 14:13

My lovely year 11 class were all online for the last lesson yesterday afternoon. It was really lovely and a little bit emotional.

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 14:18

I think half of them are the school mum "Huns" that I encounter at my girls' school gate at drop off / pick up. Quite poisonous as I found out a bit too late :(

WhyNotMe40 · 16/05/2020 14:18

Not your yr 11s obviously Grin

Asuitablecat · 16/05/2020 14:51

I'm going to lower the tone.
Just got back from bike ride.
On the way out, a man overtook me. He had his shirt off to display THE most perfect back. Had I not been hampered by the dc and a dh, I could have put some serious miles in today.

Sharing here, because don't think dh would appreciate my thoughts.

MossWalk · 16/05/2020 14:57

😆😆😆

I too have a thing for broad shoulders!

Asuitablecat · 16/05/2020 15:00

It had muscles and a light tan. Cake

SallyLovesCheese · 16/05/2020 15:02

😂 Thanks, cat, that's lightened the mood!

ineedaholidaynow · 16/05/2020 15:33

Gavin is leading the briefing today, could be interesting. Let's hope he actually answers some questions.

Saucery · 16/05/2020 15:36

WRT to TAs taking classes. It is in our job description. It’s not a full class, work to be planned by an actual teacher, we will just be applying the distancing rules (ha!) and overseeing the work. So they can do that, which, don’t get me wrong, does suck hugely, but yeah, they can do it 😔

Geraniumblue · 16/05/2020 15:39

I’m an HLTA so not as disgruntled as I might be! The work is set by the teachers. I hate the divide that all this has caused though. We needn’t have been put in this position. And it’s the government that has caused it.

Saucery · 16/05/2020 15:49

I don’t mind usually, Geraniumblue. This just feels.....different. Parents are rightly going to ask who is doing the day to day monitoring of their child’s work. We don’t have enough teaching staff to even be able to say “Mrs X is in overall charge of the class”. We are trying to deliver an interesting and meaningful curriculum as it is (although largely play based) and parents are already complaining despite being told repeatedly that it is childcare, not education.
And delivering a play based curriculum is going to be impossible anyway if we remove everything from the classrooms.
