You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

At least your MP lives locally then Chloe

True! Living in London helps on that aspect I suppose. Don’t have much confidence MP will do anything though!

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 19:07

Yes panicked message from a friend about a letter from her child's school Confused, north east too.

The thing is there's probably limited risk for her and her child and if the school thinks it's ok, I can't see the reason why not, but I am surprised a staff team agrees. I suggested making a decision but not to expect it to definitely happen, so perhaps don't tell her she's definitely going back till a day or two before?? Confused

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 19:08

Nadine used to be local. I 'taught' her DD. Which also makes me win the internet again. My DH also taught her.

I say taught in the loosest sense as she famously never turned up.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 19:17

Lol piggy!

Latest statement from the government on schools; "here's the science bit."

thatone · 15/05/2020 19:29

Thanks for posting NeurotrashWarrior. I just skim read that, did not see any scientific evidence though.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 19:30

IHateCoronavirus · 15/05/2020 19:39

Bloody government propaganda with their sodding ticks to make them appear right in what they are saying!

asuitablecat I’m not far from Liverpool and funnily enough the conversation at school today was about how geographically it would make more sense to follow Wales! Grin

FlamingoAndJohn · 15/05/2020 19:50

how geographically it would make more sense to follow Wales!

I bet there are many schools that are only a matter of a mile away from the borders of Wales or Scotland that are going to have to open when schools very close by won’t be.

Asuitablecat · 15/05/2020 19:52

And many of us who live/work across borders.

Asuitablecat · 15/05/2020 19:53

Not to mention the street in.Saltney that is half and half.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 20:01

NowWhat- lots of questions about how will they be safe having multiple households children in their houses with their ow children, no SD, no means of removing soft furnishings (ie their carpets, curtains and furniture) and no way of deep cleaning them daily. No one mentioned it but also how do you deliver a baby or toddler to someone’s door from 2 metres away? So coming into contact with the parents also and therefore their workplaces too.

Bloody risky and scary levels of potential liability presumably. If they have children themselves the risk may seem even bigger. Presumably some childminders will be vulnerable or have family members who are

Asuitablecat · 15/05/2020 20:06

My neighbour works in.a nursery. They have lots of kw babies and toddlers and she says they can't avoid contact.

But it can't be spread by kids? HmmConfused

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 20:51

Comments are interesting. MN really is a bubble. Though having said that the questions on the webchat were fairly consistent in not being convinced it was time to open schools. I’m thinking it will be cancelled and we’ll start “experimenting” with return groups in September.

Don’t think I’ve expressed this but I keep thinking about the fact that we start school too early in this country. If it was up to me I’d be looking at not taking on a reception cohort this year or having current year 6’s moving to secondary. 1 less year group for schools to deal with, no reception kids getting their first experience of school in a pandemic and spare teachers for intervention groups for those who haven’t managed to keep up during lockdown.

Also some stimulus economics of building state nurseries and employing staff to provide an extra year of childcare/pre school.

BatSegundo · 15/05/2020 20:51

I don't work in a school, so am trespassing here, really. (But I do work in education.) I just wanted to pop my head round the staffroom door and say that you're all bloody marvellous and I'm so very sorry that our government seems so keen to throw you under the bus. And that I have been utterly horrified (and perplexed) by the ridiculous teacher bashing that I've seen on MN over the past week. I had thought that a few weeks of enforced home education would have increased respect for teachers and I'm a bit mystified by it, to be honest.

Anyhow, I'll return my visitors badge and sign out. Just wanted to express my solidarity.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 20:53

Thanks bat. Nice to know it’s not everyone who hates us.

Cantaloupeisland · 15/05/2020 20:58

Bat you can stay for tea! GrinBrew

BatSegundo · 15/05/2020 21:02

Thanks Cantaloupe I promise to wash my own mug afterwards!Brew

phlebasconsidered · 15/05/2020 21:05

Thanks Bat!
It's all very odd. People that i've previously regarded as friends have been bashing teachers on SM. Er...
They are not my friends.
On the other hand, people who have previously only been acquaintances have gone out of their way to support me. They are now friends.

One real friend has just shared with me news of an outbreak in a school. It's in the Mirror. Which is one red top I think has at least some heart.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 15/05/2020 21:07

I'm in FE and have what I never until now realised is an amazing principal and deputy who have outright stated that we are not expected back on the 1st June and that no one will be expected to work in an environment they dont feel safe in. They also made reference to those of us with childcare issues or vulnerable members of the household and stated clearly that no one would be penalised if they weren't able to come into work and needed to work from home. A breath of fresh air

Asuitablecat · 15/05/2020 21:14

. 8 yr old has used my phone to Whitehall her mates tonight. They talked about how hard it's going to be to sd on.their obstacle course thing at break time.

I might send her to westminster.

Mine did the same, @MrsHerculePoirot. I didn't want to write direct to Gav so I just copied and pasted it all and sent it directly to my own MP.
