You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

I filled in the form to write to my MP, but it seemed to go to Gavin Williamson regardless of what postcode around the country I put in? I did it anyway, but was it just me or did it work for everyone else?

Appuskidu · 15/05/2020 17:20

Mine went to my own MP. He’s replied already. He is a complete arse.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 17:21

Did anyone do what I did on the government advice pages answering whether the information was useful and reporting problems with the pages?

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 17:22

He’s obviously not very busy appu

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/05/2020 17:27

I just did it again and it worked - no idea why it was funny before! I'll be surprised if I get a reply mind...

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 17:32

Incidentally I had to put my pound shop reading glasses on to read the bma letter on Twitter and have just realised I’ve still got them on because it makes seeing so much easier Grin

I need to bite the bullet and see an optician when I can. Think I need varifocals because eg. trying to take the register plus looking up to see who’s talking or walked in late-can’t see the room with reading glasses on but squint to read register without them.

I am increasingly middle aged Hmm

phlebasconsidered · 15/05/2020 17:32

I think the problem.is that it's worded a bit weaselly - I can apparently choose to be in. This opens me up to quite a bit of pressure and if I can "choose" to be in presumably i'll be "choosing" to be at home . I will need clarification on this and what it means for pay. As I am the main income, i'd probably end up "choosing" to go back if my pay is reduced.

I've sent it to my MP. Much good it will do - I write to him regularly and always get stock responses which I let my daughter shred and use as hamster bedding. He has banned me from his fb page. He's an empty sack of shit climbing his way up through the cabinet in a seat so safe they could stick a blue rosette on Colin the Daschound and he'd get elected.

Not far from me.

Honey I love my varifocals now. I was the same - glasses on and off for reading and the board and seeing the details at the back. They took a bit of getting used to but i love them now.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 17:36

Elsewhere I read it was only vulnerable teachers over 65 who could request to work from home. I thought that was on the recent guidance following bojo ‘s speech on Sunday. I’m asthmatic too but only recently started using daily inhalers again

TheHoneyBadger · 15/05/2020 17:38

Yep phleb. Think I’m gonna have to go for them. I get aura migraines and am a bit worried they’ll trigger them. Some people say they’re easy to get used to but others say they couldn’t

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 17:40

I am an expert on this and have posted on Lots of threads.

Extremely vulnerable must work from home.

Vulnerable should be given roles which mimimise risk . Or wfh . They can choose to work. Hmmm.

Families of extremely vulnerable are less black and white.

Essentially there is no quarter given tobznyone show child, partner etc is vulnerable.

Piggywaspushed · 15/05/2020 17:40

To anyone

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 17:45

Do you think a school that has sent out a letter telling y3, 4 and 5 pupils to return around 14th June are being a bit premature?

Saucery · 15/05/2020 17:48

And yet there is currently the option for those with a family member who is clinically vulnerable to wfh, not just those who have someone shielded. But we’re expected to now be in when the risk is higher?

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 17:51

Thanks piggy that's what I understood.

RigaBalsam · 15/05/2020 17:57

Keen to push the ' low risk' at the briefing.

WhySeaEmm · 15/05/2020 18:06

I'm asthmatic- does that make me vulnerable? It did, at first, so my head let me wfh before we shut. But now? It's not bad enough that I got a letter or anything, but still there.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/05/2020 18:28

The Clinically vulnerable include chronic mild and moderate asthmatics.

That means a daily preventer inhaler plus any relievers for mild, moderate appears to mean a different sort of inhaler that may have a dual action (preventer and long acting reliever) plus any other additional reliever inhalers. (I think)

I'd read it that clinically vulnerable can wfh or must be given a role in school where SD is guaranteed. (Which piggy confirmed.)

WhyNotMe40 · 15/05/2020 18:44

Sorry - it's at the top of the page now - but why are childminders screwed? I'm kind of depending on ours taking my 3yo hooligan when I go back "properly" on the 1st June (rota days so far DH has taken as holiday, and my 2 primary aged children can be trusted to work/play sensibly while DH WFH. The 3 yo can't be left for 2 minutes... Hmm)

CallmeAngelina · 15/05/2020 18:47

Say WHAAAAAT?????

ChloeDecker · 15/05/2020 18:47

I win the internet. My MP is Nadine Dorries.

I teach the child of my MP Confused

tadjennyp · 15/05/2020 18:50

At least your MP lives locally then Chloe Just back from Tesco, first time wearing a mask. I didn't enjoy it.

tadjennyp · 15/05/2020 18:51

Sorry if that came across really snippy. I am so tired from work this week. Though I am being paid for sitting on my arse doing nothing of course.

Asuitablecat · 15/05/2020 18:52

We have to redo our cags piggy. Same reason.

Wonder if Liverpool will identify as Welsh?
