You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

I have a friend who's desperate for her kids to go to school cos they're doing no work at home. But she does nothing but slag the school of when she's there.

With the death rate increasing, I'm not convinced schools will be back anyway.

I haven't had a reply from MN but I went through that thread and reported every post I could find that wasn't from a member of school staff as being spam.

RigaBalsam · 12/05/2020 20:26

When they said that the aim was for the rest of primary to be back in school for a month before the end of term, did they mean all year groups-in full, all at once? So, after 3 weeks of 15 to a class, bang-in as normal?

How did you read that?

I read it like that too Ap as did some reporters it goes against every other country. I can't get my head around it.

mumsneedwine · 12/05/2020 20:27

To be fair to MN they have just deleted a vile post within minutes. Was quite impressed !

ChloeDecker · 12/05/2020 20:35

To be fair to MN they have just deleted a vile post within minutes. Was quite impressed ! I missed that putting little one to bed. That poster is being very toxic tonight, eh!?

Asuitablecat · 12/05/2020 20:36

they have finally taken the headteacher thread down.

WhyNotMe40 · 12/05/2020 20:40

I would honestly welcome being furloughed. Then we wouldn't have all the "wtf are teachers doing for their pay" bollocks

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 20:46

What about the poster who says she runs a team of 50 via zoom? HR manager offering to sort out planning for school return. Honestly, I would love to say you crack on love I will stay in the staffroom drinking toffee vodka. Organising 50 adults is not the same as organising a school and all the relevant interest parties - I bet she does not get spat at/pushed/hugged/licked by people in the office. (Oh ok - maybe she gets the odd hug)

I also read it as back to classes of 30 3 weeks after we make all the arrangements to teach in small groups. I’d hope they would then make it part time with 15 but don’t think they will. They’ll just say the opening for the first years didn’t affect r (even if it does)

pfrench · 12/05/2020 20:49

I have a question about a national curriculum. There is an article in the guardian today about an 'open school' thing - similar to what Becky Allen was saying in her blog last week - work books, same topics studied by all etc. Today Laura Mcwotsit (from teacher tapp) tweeted about how this is a good idea, and said it should start from Oak National Academy.

Now, I really like what they've done for this emergency term. But I would never choose to send my child to a Harries academy. I just dont like their style of really twee teaching, with NQTs becoming carbon copies of each other, and being Heads in 4 years. That model doesn't suit my education ethos at all. We chose to move to a village that has a school that doesn't always tow the party line in the LA, and has an interesting staff with a strong head.

I think if we have a national curriculum that has basically been written by x person, on his own in his/her office, then that takes half the fun out of teaching for me. I dont want to do weak topics like Harry Potter or whatever, but I do want some freedom. The school I'm at now doesn't give us curriculum freedom for the core knowledge for each subject, but there is room around it for teacher choice (enrichment activities ot whatever they call them). Won't lie, I've bloody loved doing my distance learning off curriculum completely.

Maybe this has made me rethink what school is for a bit. All that grammar, it's just bollocks. How do you feel about it?

pfrench · 12/05/2020 20:50

Not Harries, they're Reach aren't they. Either way, just no.

FrippEnos · 12/05/2020 20:51

Its probably been posted but from the DFE through TES.

www.tes.com/news/dfe-teachers-go-without-ppe-or-social-distancing?fbclid=IwAR0sgo017wmhDGMHr0nFamf-XmnZ8ubdHSDSpb0Pn9NLVHcJt_e8K68OxdA

"Because of this lack of social distancing schools should "work through" a "hierarchy of measures":"

"Avoiding contact with anyone with symptoms."

But children are asymptomatic, FFS.

Saucery · 12/05/2020 20:51

Quite handy that children largely show no symptoms. That way, if staff get it we’ll just be blamed for breaking guidelines elsewhere in our lives. Rolling around in parks with unrelated households, licking bus poles etc, you know, like we’re bound to do.

Siriusmew · 12/05/2020 20:54

Lurking TA here! I had to remove the app from my phone this morning as I was so full of rage. All was going swimmingly til I sat down to finish my final uni assignment of this year. I have bitten on far too many threads!

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 20:55

Avoiding contact with anyone with symptoms

No one should be leaving their house if they are displaying symptoms!

Appuskidu · 12/05/2020 20:56

Omg, that other thread about how lovely it is in schools in Denmark. I can’t help but think it’s been started by a wide-eyed innocent TB.

Appuskidu · 12/05/2020 20:59

I read it like that too Ap as did some reporters it goes against every other country. I can't get my head around it.

Why is that not being commented on anywhere, if that’s what they mean? Sad.

Asuitablecat · 12/05/2020 20:59

My school is very possessive over resources! Can't see it wanting to play nice and share.

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 21:01

Omg, that other thread about how lovely it is in schools in Denmark. I can’t help but think it’s been started by a wide-eyed innocent TB

And the responses Envy So positive! So wonderful!

Asuitablecat · 12/05/2020 21:02

And it's amazing how quickly school threads are springing up.

Mind you, I've not been on a thread moving this fast since the hand maids tale threads.

CallmeAngelina · 12/05/2020 21:06

Which is the other thread to have been zapped, apart from the Head Teacher one?
