You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

TBF it is pretty clear that (some) parents already hate us. I can't see how they could hate us more, and it might actually inspire other people to stand up for their own rights at work.

SLT have hinted they will not be able to risk assess everything fully before 1st June, so I'm not sure where that leaves us!

mumsneedwine · 12/05/2020 18:10

I've bitten on a thread and am being snarky. I am so tired and still have hours of marking ahead. So in mood to stand my ground to people saying I am doing nothing.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 18:11

Yes the moderation is shocking. I guess MN are hoping that the fighting attracts more people but I fear it will do the opposite. I thought the purpose was to provide support and I think MN had lost its way.

Of course, it could also be true that MN post a few posts of their own to whip up a frenzy. Attracts advertisers

It leaves us unable to work. If it isn’t even risk assessed it doesn’t meet the most basic requirement even by dfe’s f’d up standards

FlamingoAndJohn · 12/05/2020 18:15

None of them will be working in 3m square rooms with 15 colleagues and no ppe.

15 colleagues who lick them, each other, the furniture, pick their noses, cough and sneeze all over everything, need help getting dressed and wiping their bottoms.

namechangedyetagain · 12/05/2020 18:17

I will join you for a gin (in spirit). I've been asleep most of the day, having had a cough started on Friday and a sore throat and losing sense of taste. I'm hoping it's just hayfever. But I've got a home testing kit arriving tomorrow and I'm in for 7 days ( unless test is clear).

Have caught up with bits and pieces today and nothing I've seen has reassured me that the govt are concerned about the welfare of teaching staff or children. Surely by the 31st May someone will pull the idea?

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2020 18:17

There were actually some lovely comments on that are we being paid thread last night. I’m beginning to notice more posters defending us and expressing being fed up of the endless teacher bashing threads. Some are even becoming adept at explaining we don’t get paid holidays lol.

I think for the most part mn is self moderated aka mob ruled. If the tide turns the bashers will get eaten alive by the mob.

SansaSnark · 12/05/2020 18:18

MN has always been a very low moderation site.

I don't know if it is still the case, but they used to let threads with live (and sometimes very detailed) discussions of suicide stand on the forums. I don't know of any other forum that has ever allowed this, because it is so damaging and risky.

But unless you are able to persuade people to be volunteer moderaters, paid for moderation can get quite expensive.

pussycatinboots · 12/05/2020 18:21

You've not worked with Local Govt and Builders have you? Grin

I'll bugger off now. But I'll do a bit of reporting if it helps.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 18:24

@pussycatinboots - every little helps

Battling with ds who has finally gotten around to starting today’s maths after ignoring all day and me banning PS4 for 2 days.

Now wants me to sit with him through all the videos. I have politely told him to get to fuck. It’s 6.30pm, I’ve been busy all day and am now sitting down with a glass of wine so he’s missed his chance at hand holding, spoon feeding, mud wrestling like engagement from me.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2020 18:36

I’ve seen some parents (even if young nt kids) declaring their kids have to go back to school because they can’t make them do any work. Same parents who think teaching 30 kids at once with a wide spectrum of ability, special needs and behaviour issues is piss easy, overpaid and why do we think we’re so special.

I want that old school head:wall emoji.

Cheers everyone Wine

SansaSnark · 12/05/2020 18:50

@TheHoneyBadger

Yep, I have had a few of those- albiet for secondary age kids.

We've also had a few parents begging to bring their children in as they can't manage their behaviour at home. How we are supposed to manage it at school then, I have no idea.

I also had quite a critical email from a Y10 parent asking for more challenging work for her son, as he seemed to be finishing very quickly. He's one of my few year 10s who's submitted nothing since Easter. You'd really think you would check before sending an email with a tone like that.

But teaching is easy and anyone can do it ;)

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 18:59

@SansaSnark whenever I get an email like that I simply attach a report saying ‘our of 10 pieces of work Johnny has 6 outstanding and achieved a level 4 in xyz. For Johnny to make significant improvements he should complete xyz and redo abc. I welcome your support blah blah blah’. Very rarely do I hear back from them

I now call them out on it on lessons - hey Johnny your mum was in contact saying xyz and I said abc. What do you think??

I have contacting MNHQ yet again to ask for protection for staffroom threads. Anxious and distressed school staff should be able to vent, discuss, share, hand hold, argue without others policing our professionalism.

ChloeDecker · 12/05/2020 19:14

Absolutely agree Piggy That certain Aladdin themed poster is actively seeking and posting on every single thread about nurseries and schools. And yet cries bullying when they are called out. Once upon a time, posters would be banned....

Good-I think it should be protected.

I’m increasingly thinking that the June 1st plan won’t happen and am fully prepared to boycott if the union propose it-so this might all be irrelevant-but...can I just ask anyone that read the DfE guidelines yesterday-

When they said that the aim was for the rest of primary to be back in school for a month before the end of term, did they mean all year groups-in full, all at once? So, after 3 weeks of 15 to a class, bang-in as normal?

How did you read that?

SansaSnark · 12/05/2020 19:18

@StaffAssociationRepresentative

I'm afraid I sent a very disingenuous email back to start off with saying I don't seem to have recieved any work, could you check with him that he's not submitted it in an unusual place, and sent a screenshot of his blank SMHW submissions. I haven't heard anything back yet!

If I was seeing him in person, I'd definitely mention it to him- he's a nice enough kid, if quite lazy.

DreamingofBrie · 12/05/2020 19:20

Thanks to Staff, Chloe, mums and all of the teachers and parent
defending us on the basher threads. I've just read through the one about the head teacher sending the message. Wine and Gin for everyone.

I've reported the Biscuit, who seems just to be there to goad. Wishy washy crap email back from MN followed by "peace and love" cop out on the thread.

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 19:21

I welcome your support

Ah, I love using that snottily.

I am slightly concerned that online engagement has plummeted in my Rs since Monday. Hoping that doesn't mean they're going to all be signing up for a space.

Appuskidu · 12/05/2020 19:22

I’m amazed some posters have got the time to do their very important job working with covid patients when posting on teacher-bashing threads seems to take up so much of their time.

Has happened to me lots too. Problem is it is probably these parents posting on Mumsnet and Facebook etc. saying their children have had no work/contact and building up more teacher hatred Sad

Thank you DreamingofBrie! I agree about the peace and love!

PerplexingWords · 12/05/2020 19:32

I too have had a crappy wishy washy back from MNHQ. I’d been contemplating subscribing till now, but have decided that if they are prepared to allow such relentless battering that I can’t. I’ve hidden the resignation thread now.

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2020 19:33

Clara to the rescue on the staffroom thread.

It ahs made me think though : there at thought to be 65 school staff who have died before or during lockdown. This is proportionately not hugely alarming but, apart from NEU tweets these are not reported at all, hence MN TBs really thinking there is no risk to us (and perhaps some non TBs too who want to believe school is safe) A train station worker (horrible horrible situation) died yesterday and it is in the news, the train drivers are reported. So they bloody well should be . But deaths of teachers etc : no.

Of course these people could have caught the virus anywhere but they could have caught it at school.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 12/05/2020 19:36

We had a wonderful member of support staff die 2 weeks after we eventually closed and 2 of our coach drivers. Also had a young 25year old technician get seriously ill and end up hospitalized. It can't be proved that they caught it from our students (FE college btw) but it also cant be disproved and we had 3 confirmed cases the week before we closed.
