I’m presuming the offer was made and accepted at least weeks if not months before announcement.

If it holds regardless of current shitstorm, which it could given the announcement wasn’t delayed, I don’t think Australia is a bad move for them for the summer, or longer term.

Her as a TV presenter, him being “just Harry” and the kids far from the British Royal orbit. There’s a fair few positives for the whole family in that, especially if it leads to a longer term career/stay. Good compromise on weather between Californian & Britain. Good compromise culturally between California and Britain. Down to earth in a way that neither posh California and posh Britain are.

As a concept it could offer quite a few positives as a solution to keep the children insulated both in the short (and possibly long) term from the Ghosts of Media Headlines Past.

This is exactly what's going to happen. And shame on RF for not bringing her back into the fold

Your sarcasm seems to be lost in translation these days!

DancingFerret · Today 10:00

My take is the media's current apparent sympathetic approach to Markle is a derriere-covering exercise.

If the allegations against MSnr are eventually proven, the Times et al won't be held to account and accused of being horrible to someone experiencing a truly traumatic time in their life.

Equally, if the whole thing is outed as a pack of lies and collusion between her and MJnr, the press will have a field day - "She fooled us all."

BigWillyLittleTodger · Today 10:01

Nah, she will get away with it, she always does.

Shame on the RF? What should they do, and I'm being serious?

Apologies! I was attempting sarcasm

Yep 😂

This is a huge win for them. An investigation takes a long time. Tom S will either be dead or unfit to stand trial.

Regarding the MET, they want any questions over what they should have done to disappear so they won't investigate this letter saga either.

Victims of what in this case though?

Mylovelygreendress · Today 10:19

Has the Masterchef gig been confirmed by Masterchef itself or is this another story conveniently planted to detract from other stuff ?
It will be very interesting to see what the official investigation throws up . I think Meghan will live to regret her hasty statement.

MrsLeonFarrell · Today 10:19

HoldMyWine · Today 09:14

Is it possible the positive media spin is at the behest of the RF? Are they trying to rehabilitate HaMs image? I can’t think why the media are being so unquestioning and sympathetic? If we can see how mendacious HaM are why can’t they?

Even if the palace offered help I doubt the Sussexes would accept it. But why would they? The King has made it clear they are private citizens and nothing to do with the institution. This is the wrong time to go back on that and the excellent palace media team will know it.

StormAusten · Today 10:21

Why are so many commentators ready to blithely accept Meghan's assertion that she was told by the Met they would investigate?
That makes no sense either because the Met aren't able to "investigate" alleged crimes committed by foreign nationals on foreign soil.
I suspect they MIGHT have said something similar that she has either lied about to suit her own purpose or that she misinterpreted.
But even so, with something this serious, even if it wasn't strictly her responsibility to follow up, wouldn't most people? And even if you chose not to for whatever reason, it's not really on to jump to blame others. You have to have some agency in life, surely, as I'd have thought she'd be the first to agree.

And what does the dummy do? Go and raid the fridge? Or wandering around inspecting the cabinets looking for silverware to nick?

Well, if you're in an Agatha Christie novel....

For some relatives of mine, bridge was their all consuming interest. They went on bridge playing holidays. They played in competitions.

Dummy tops up drinks surely. Whilst necking an extra shot whilst out of sight.

I found the Oz Masterchef annoucement unbelievably crass. Any sympathy for MM should by filtered through the multiple ways she has consistently manipulated the news narrative even though (as is now apparent) she knew she was only presenting at best a partial 'truth.' I despair of the royal pack. They seem to lack not only basic journalistic skills but a basic curiosity.

Agree. The whole thing is beyond odd. I'm not entirely surprised that a poisoned pen letter from an ex, 40 years after the divorce, to a now high profile person was basically put to one side. There must be a tonne of nasty letters delivered to famous people. I doubt the Met pass on every letter with an accusation that has no proof - the only reason this has traction is because of Junior's call to the Sun about the boxes/computer and MM has made her announcement. I don't doubt both men are utterly sleazy, but I'm not sure how Junior is coming out okay in this scenario. At the very least surely it's all tainted evidence at this point. Making accusations in the press, rather than waiting for the police to investigate, plus reportedly getting money from The Sun, doesn't make for a good look. I'm not sure why the press isn't questioning this mess a great deal more. Senior may well be a sex offender, but he's now dementia so unable to defend himself.

I have no idea.

Apparently her appearance on Masterchef got the show its highest ratings ever, so that may be the answer, especially as I've heard the show has been struggling for viewers in recent years. However, it's questionable whether a one off curiosity view will be translated into a sustained audience for the entire season.

That said, I very much doubt that presenting a children's cooking show in Melbourne was quite what Meghan had in mind at the time of her grand flounce 7 years ago.

Link Lauren has got it spot on, saying everything we are saying on here, all of this from day one is way too coordinated and she’s using this to try to play the victim and get everyone to forget the past few years, he thinks it’s all about turning her brand around and I agree, I think that’s been her plan all along.

'Thomas Senior's scandal is NOT her redemption'. Quite.

Meg's 'redemption' is relying on people becoming Child Sex Abuse cover-up apologists. No thanks, Meg. I have morals.

What will they do for security there? Will they demand the Australian taxpayers pay.

It might not be a bad move, they are so unpopular here & it has intensified since their return. There is no rehabilitation of their reputation & no part for them in the royal family..
