I think Thomas Jnr & Samantha have lots of ammunition left in their arsenal...

It’s possible Samantha is considering how to manage being (allegedly) dragged into the content of The Letter of Varying Dates. She’s protected her twitter account.

The rest of the press don’t seem to have touched it as a story. But the original claim was still on youtube yesterday.

I had my own reason to try an establish if it was permissible to name an alleged victim of child abuse in the context of no charges brought, no court case, once the alleged victim was an adult. But at the time came up with no clear answer and simply decided to withdraw from the fray.

However that was not in the context of global media spotlight and a very famous sister who saw the contents of The Letter of Varying Dates.

She has not covered herself in Markle Flavoured Glory over the years. But allegations being shared privately and publically of that kind are extremely hard on the soul even when you know they wholly false. When it is your other parent spreading the allegations it brings up another layer of pain, because one of the people supposed to love you the most used you as a weapon, without considering that the unwilling weapon shatters upon impact on the intended target.

I apologise for talking around rather than quoting what was said directly. But I suspect the original report may end up centering in some kind of legal challenge.

Mondommountain · Today 08:00

I don’t know about that, the Markles were absolutely the worst of the worst. She was absolutely correct to not invite them, I would never criticise her for that, I felt so sorry for her dealing with all that in the lead up to her wedding at the time.

What I don’t understand is why her black relatives were not invited, who by all accounts are decent working class people, and have never said a bad word about her.

I agree. Yes, I know this area of speculation might be criticised for being irrelevant and none of our business etc, but it has always puzzled me.

Surely D must have had relatives she could have invited? Therefore, did she, or did Meghan, veto it? If so, why?

I don't hold with the 'jailbird' rumours about Doria - just to be clear. But in the light of this news about what a horrible person TM was (even leaving aside the recent CSA allegations) I'm baffled as to why D would just leave M to his care for so long. The first wife did the same...it's bizarre. I know it's probably an unfair societal convention, but it is usually the mother who has care of children after a split, so for this not to happen (twice) is odd.

I know this is prurient gossip territory, but let's be honest - with what's come to light, it's certainly reasonable to wonder.

Mondommountain · Today 08:43

There are lots of rumours about why Doria left Meghan with her father, from a prison sentence for tax fraud and drugs, to her being a flight attendant with long stints away from home to being a boutique owner and going on buying trips.

in my opinion, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a combination of trying to deal with all the aggro some tweens can bring (let your dad deal with you, kind of thing) or a tween saying I’m going to live with dad because you won’t allow me to do x,y,z and he will allow me. Maybe Doria wanted to live a life without the responsibility of a kid, or possibly a new relationship she moved away for. As others have said, if it was anything nefarious the horrible Markles would have outed her without a second thought.

Their relationship does not seem close at all though, at the end of the final episode of With Love Meghan where there was a party, Meghan was hugging and kissing everyone who arrived, but viewers noticed when her Mom arrived there was no kisses/hugs between them. The Mother’s Day post to the Kardashian mother was as pointed a statement as you could get, and not a mention of her own mom. I imagine it’s an on / off relationship between them.

They are back two months now & there's still no explanation on why they up sticks so suddenly after Harry saying not so long ago that he could never see his family living in the UK ,it's not safe...

This. With bells on.

diddl · Today 08:56

I might be wrong but I think Meghan might have lived with her dad at about the time he won the lottery?

UncleColm · Today 08:57

With regard to the wedding it must have been stressful for Meghan to organise when most of her own family were not going to be invited.. it's crazy that they didn't just elope or do something really small. I guess they just really wanted the images of the big fancy wedding. But that just what it is...a big image.

It was purely for optics , they wanted the Beckhams & Clooneys but none of Meghans family. Doris has a brother & sister who both said at the time they're invitation was lost in the post... it's all extremely weird.
And yes a small private wedding with no photos sold to media would have stopped any speculation & they could have got on with their lives.

So why are we criticising MM for not doing following up over the last 7 years if there was nothing to it?

I’d rather query her bizarre lack of curiosity over a subject she claims expertise over (children’s safeguarding), that be thought a child sex abuse cover-up apologist, wouldn’t you?

They were offered a small wedding and a gentle start. Not for them!
They actually wanted Westminster Abbey or St Paul's Cathedral.

Mondommountain · Today 09:11

The wedding didn’t even have to be small nor without celebrities, Taylor Swift just managed to pull off a massive celebrity packed wedding with only a few grainey photos of the waiters being leaked. Jennifer Anniston and Brad Pitt pulled it off years ago, just releasing one single photo. Same again when she married her 2nd husband, nothing released.

I think Harry was probably the driving force in wanting the spectacle, he is,the Prince of England after all.

Which we the taxpayer were forced to pay whatever ridiculous sum for, amidst years of austerity. That she then spoke derisively of, sneering with contempt that it was a spectacle for the masses and not their real wedding. Loathsome creature.

"The spectacle" - that's always grinded with me millions of tax payer funds. When a smaller private affair like Bearrice had due to covid restrictions was a reasonable option.

Yes! And I'd say Beatrice really has to push for her small wedding, no doubt Daddy Andy & Sarah wanted to full state affair & would have preferred her to wait until restrictions were over..

That would never have happened. The pair of them lapped it up.

I think the exact same it would have showed her as human, everyone has ghastly relatives someone along the line.. it would have shown she has the common touch which would have appealed to all of us.

I think the exact opposite. It’s one thing I wouldn’t blame MM for. These are the sort of people who would heckle in the chapel, get drunk at the reception and start fights or harass fellow guests. She did right as far as the Markles were concerned, they hadn’t earned their place.

I’m less certain about the Ragland side, or the nieces, or indeed anyone whatsoever from her past life outside of Suits. I think she wanted to avoid anyone showing her up.

MindThePause · Today 09:20

This. With bells on.

If you take much of what Harry says about the ominous threat Britain poses for his nuclear family with a very large “Give me My Princely Security Back !” PR flavoured salt, it makes more sense on a very human level.

It’s all Anglosphere, so one less issue. But,

A) Not Easy living overseas when it was chosen on the basis of “run from here !” rather than “Ohhh ! Home is nice enough, but that looks way more fab !” I have watched many friends, colleagues and acquaintances stumble hard when their move was more about “home country sucks” rather than a genuine understanding and appreciation of where they were going to. The grass that looked greener turns to cheapo astroturf upon closer inspection.

B) Even when you love where you went, and you love the “foreign” aspects of your spouse, it can be quite tough on the soul to feel like a foreigner to your kid(s). Obviously harder when 2 languages are involved. But my kiddo is fully bilingual, I’ve done my damndest on the bicultural aspect, and yet there are times when I can feel this cultural gulf between us. I only notice it when he is visiting Britain and call me from there, but he has an accent when he speaks English and while in the grand scheme of things it’s no biggie there is this non-logical sensation that i am the parent who is “other”. If you sub out language and replace it with class, I can see where the “I feel too other to my own children” could come into play.

C) Big expectations that are not fulfilled can lead to a dragging homesickness mucho amplified. One sad person doing an impression of Pootle and his Big Black Cloud can make a marriage and home life not much fun for anybody. To the point of it’s either move or the potentially happy enough home life is at risk of turning a permanent grey.

D) Some people in my tribe (self included) move countries on what looks like a whim, but was in fact a sub conscious plan. Which involved taking a hammer to life as it is, in order to push for life where I want it to be.

There doesn’t have to be Ominous Incoming News Forcing A Midnight Flit.

Sometimes it’s just the way it is for (tiara-free) bicultural families where impulsiveness is a feature not a bug. And the original move didn’t go as well as expected.

SiegfriedSassoon · Today 09:20

Their joint obsession with trying to compete with W&C set them up to fail from the start. In the UK, 26 million people watched the ceremony of Williams wedding. Whereas in the UK only 11 million watched the ceremony of Harry's. They were never going to be serious competition and they've caused themselves endless grief in their futile pursuit of being bigger and better.

twinklystar23 · Today 09:21

Didn't they just completely undermining the use of public funds in a period when the money could have gone to a more worthwhile cause. Then to completely undermine it as well as embroiling the AoC in her lie. Makes me want to spit!

My theory of why Doria left is a lot less controversial.

I don’t think Meg and Doria are that close. I think Thomas was always the fav parent. We all know she was spoiled, effectively lived as an only child. Doria was never going to treat Meg the way she wanted and Meg knew she had an easier route. Every kid wants to live with the Disney parent. I think Meg got to an age, where Doria felt she could advocate for herself and if that’s what she wants, fine. I do think Doria chose work that meant she had to travel too. I don't think parenting was a source of joy for her. She effectively played the cool auntie. The way Meg describes her mum growing up, never sounds very motherly.

I don’t think there’s anything nefarious to come out about Megs childhood, but I dont think there was a lot of parenting going on with Thomas. Meg wouldn’t be told off or told what to do- we know she has real issues with this now but I think it stems from never being required to. Also, what Meghan wants Meghan gets, was also forged in this period.

I also think, that she learned being very affectionate, showering a person with attention gets you things. I’ve never seen her be demonstrative with her mother….ever. I don’t think Doria is like that or likes it. I think Thomas in a way, groomed Meg, to be this fawning. He enjoyed it. Again, I think this is as far as it went.

I think this is why all her relationships, with anybody, follow a similar pattern and everyone seems transactional.

I think for the first time in her life, her using charm, hugs, big smiles and giggles behind her hand didn’t work when she met the RF, who are almost the definition of emotionally reserved! This to them is a worthy trait, showing you’ve been raised correctly and just part of being stoic.

She came, she saw, she couldn’t conquer. Her brain couldn’t compute. I think she therefore had to try and find faults in other people to make sense of why it wasn’t working for her. It’s how we got theyre jealous, race card etc.

Doria hasnt been been cut off but thats because theyve never been that close. Dorias distance is what has kept that relationship going, Meg can’t fall out with her over anything really because Doria isn’t that involved. Importantly I don’t think Doria criticises, or makes demands of Meg, which is why she stays around.

Did anyone see the NYT video of Meg making banana pudding and her mums there? You’d think they’re strangers. No natural warmth between them and certainly no deference to her mother. But Meg seems keen for her mum to positively comment on her dish, Doria doesn’t give much away. Doesn’t really do much. I think it’s always been like this with these two. Not much between them.

It's just having no family from Dorias side or the Markles opened up a whole new can of worms & looks like Meghan was either ashamed of her roots or desperately trying to cover up her past...
