It makes no sense.

Why did the met get a letter about a US citizen who wasn't living in the UK?
If they were investigating allegations, why would they go to HAM and tell them? There would be the risk they'd tell him and he'd hide evidence or leak it to the press etc. I cannot see why the MET would do that. First rule of investigating allegations is confidentiality.
And, yes, investigations can take time, but surely computers etc would have been checked in 6 years. If the MET took it seriously enough to "tell HAM" then they would have taken it seriously enough to investigate.

But also I can't see HAM sitting on it all this time when being criticised for not making contact, with all the clapbacks they do for smaller things. And leaving TM to speak to the papers - wouldn't they have spoken to him and said something along the lines of "we know there are allegations of CSA, that is why we are not talking to you. We're protecting you by pretending it's something else, but if you keep complaining in the media we will tell them."
They have had no guilt about telling other things, so why sit on that?

I don't think this pushed the moonlight flit on its own either. Why would her estranged father being investigated lead to that? There's no common sense for them to flee an investigation for an estranged family member, that has nothing to do with them. If they'd been implicated, then they might think that trying to get under the RF's protection would be helpful, but there isn't any suggestion at all of that.

Meghan likes “a letter”. She sent “a letter” to her father just before the wedding. She has often talked about “letters”. It’s highly unlikely that the Met, even if they were informed by the US authorities, were told via a letter. Who does that these days (or even in 2018)? And that’s without it being unlikely that the Met were involved anyway in something out of their jurisdiction 🤷‍♀️

There are so many wild stories, not worth dignifying, really!

There are not endess willd stories that have come specifically from her brother. He has made a certain amount of claims against her and certainly doesn't come across as very trustworthy. But I just don't know why he would claim that she had had a hysterectomy. It seems so random.

AtIusvue · 23/10/2026 14:06

So,

If Meghan believed the Authorities were taking care of this

Did she follow this up?

We know that both in the US and UK, Harry has frequently contacted and leveraged those high up politically and in the Police, to put forward their case and chase up any issues.

So did they do this here?

I suspect not. That’s why she wrote, she hoped authorities were taking care of it.

Which is astonishing, seen as her husband believes institutions shouldn’t be trusted and are guilty of whitewashing. Why not chase them up? Why not hold them to account? like they do on issues that personally affect them.

Yes, Atlusvue, and one of them is WHEN she first found out about this

I don't know if anyone's picked up on this, but the statement said "In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me"

And "subsequently" doesn't tell us when it was shared with her

It’s a game of smoke and mirrors. It’s disgraceful and I fervently believe that any attempt to muddy the waters on these threads has to be stamped on.

I know, it's certainly an odd one. Why that? To be honest, I didn't know that had come from him and just put it in the category of the stories about her never being pregnant, and just dismissed it as another conspiracy theory.

Telegraph states that she was told summer 2018, after the wedding.

Not sure when though because in August she sent the letter to ‘Daddy’ telling him how hurt she was over the wedding.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/10/2026 14:09

A holding statement of “I’m deeply shocked and processing the news, I won’t be making any further statement at this time” would surely have been better?

Of course, @Candleabra, but that would have required thought and integrity so instead we got the equivalent of "nerr-nerr to all you meanies who blamed me for blanking dad!!"

Exactly, they try to strong arm the NY police, take endless publications to court, issue statements on the judiciary, have political and journalistic allies to fight their battle in the press, have access to the best legal teams but with this, nadda? Zilch? Tumbleweed?

Starryfifty · 23/10/2026 14:11

If this goes to court, if deemed a criminal case, HAM really need to disappear from public life. For the sake of their children. Tom senior is elderly and will pass away in a few years but two siblings still around to cause mayhem. They have an out here. Quit completely. It's time

I agree 👏

valeriy2 · 23/10/2026 14:14

The question seems pretty simple to me. When the Met's Royalty and Specialist Protection team recieved that letter in 2018 about Meghan's father, did they tell the relevant people in the Royal Household, including the Private Office? And if so, when and what did they do about it?

If they didnt pass it on, why not? And if they did, who was told and what action, if any, was taken?

Meghan says the letter was shared with her and that she was assured the allegations were being investigated. Surely its reasonable to ask what happened to that information afterwards, and whether anyone else in the institution was made aware of it.

I'm not saying the Royal Family all knew, or that anyone should be judged on allegations alone. But the public deserves to know how this was handled, particularly given the years of criticism Meghan faced for distancing herself from her father.

Who knew what, when did they know it, and what did they do about it?

I have been thinking about this and wondering what I would do if I was in her position in 2018. I think I would be horrified but not automatically assume guilt. I wouldn’t just believe some letter. I would have demanded a full investigation to either exonerate my father or prove his guilt. Like so much about M, it’s odd. H said in the NF documentary that M’s was estranged from her df because she had married into the RF and the media attention that brought. Why even bring the topic up, never mind lie, if the truth was so awful?

His claims against her were specific and odd. Not the generic defamatory aspersions you would expect from a n’er-do-well like Thomas Markle Jnr.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 23/10/2026 14:15

I’ve noticed the double standards on here with regards to press reporting, if it’s in the mainstream media and it’s not pro HAM it’s all lies, but when it’s pro HAM the papers have lawyered up, they wouldn’t print if it wasn’t true, funny that.

TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow · 23/10/2026 14:15

Who knew what, when did they know it, and what did they do about it?

They didn’t have to do anything about it. It had absolutely nothing to do with them.

That’s exactly what I thought of, using their relationship with Gavin Newsom as some sort of threat to lean on the NYPD

The press will be fielding questions to the Met Press Office they will have to prepare a response even if it is just a statement of fact give Meghan's assertions and there will be a barrage of FOI's going in no doubt as well. But they are probably protected by statutory Royal privilege.

bluegreygreen · 23/10/2026 14:19

Heyelpheyelp · 23/10/2026 13:59

If the metropolitan police told Meghan about it then I think the Royal family would know too.
The Royal family should have insisted that the information was passed on to the police in Mexico - and put pressure on Mexican authorities to ensure it was investigated.

The Royal family should have insisted that the information was passed on to the police in Mexico - and put pressure on Mexican authorities to ensure it was investigated.

Neither of those actions is remotely within the remit of the Royal Family.

Mylovelygreendress · 23/10/2026 14:17

I wonder if the MET will respond ?

They have to.

What it looks like from the outside, is that there was information revealed 8 years ago that wasn’t acted upon.

Im not saying that what’s true, but there’s no evidence otherwise.

They need to be clear about dates, what information they were told and how this was or wasn’t investigated.
