A reminder of the brickbats that were hurled at Meghan in the not-so-distant past, and an opportunity to reflect on the news we now know. How cruel, and how presumptuous, some were to judge her without understanding what she might have been going through.

This should go both ways though. Both H and M have been happy to attack others, including people who had cancer diagnoses.
Surely Meghan wouldn't have sat on the allegations when/if there were young kids in her extended family. It's awful. Why were they criticising RF and inviting scrutiny, knowing this much worse story could come out? I don't think this can be positively spun for them, no matter how hard they try.

Wafflesandcoffee · 23/10/2026 13:51

I’ve backed away too. It’s become all ad hominem attacks, distractions and faux outrage, with very little interest in actually raising and considering pertinent issues. It feels as though scoring points and attacking people has become more important than honestly examining the issues at hand.

But how could they investigate when her dad was a US citizen not living in the UK and presumably the computers holding any images were not in the UK? They could pass it to the Mexican authorities as that is where Thomas was in 2018 but after that it’s not their investigation to do.

Now they might have kept tabs on what Mexican police were doing and kept the Sussexes and BP informed of any updates but that is all they had to do.

and didn’t Harry famously call on Gavin Newsom to put pressure on the NYPD when they didn’t investigate the slow speed ‘car-chase’. They have their own huge elite security team working on their behalf, lawyers, PR agencies, etc. they are not your average Joe trying to get answers or action, they have access that not many people have..

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/10/2026 13:52

A way out would be for MM to say the RF advised her to keep schtum before the wedding and for evermore. This would mean keeping quiet becomes the shame of the RF, rather than that of MM

I fully expect that to be used at some point, @ChubbyCheeksCharlie, except it would look a bit odd given the endless other things they haven't kept schtum abouy

Still, any port in a storm and all that

ChubbyCheeksCharlie · 23/10/2026 13:52

FancyKitten · 23/10/2026 13:16

That makes sense. It must have been known about by the press (and more) before now.

Which is how the DM were so quick off the mark immediately the Sun broke the story. They had the in depth story ready to go. Just waiting for the whistle.
It also IMHO explains why the gloves have been off for the last few days by ALL media outlets. No one wants to be seen to be sucking up to HaM as they don't know how this is going to play out.

Mylovelygreendress · 23/10/2026 13:38

I always thought that was because of Meghan’s alleged links to Epstein and co .

I've seen those rumours before. If she was an Epstein yacht girl to in order to network or to supplement her meagre acting earnings in the years before Suits.. then it would make her well documented Julia Roberts pretty woman obsession take on a new relevance. The pretty woman outfits were an 'Easter egg' type clue hinting at her previous employment 😂😂 😂

Literally only taken a couple of hours for someone to put a timeline together and the holes are very obvious!!!

It makes no sense.

Why did the met get a letter about a US citizen who wasn't living in the UK?
If they were investigating allegations, why would they go to HAM and tell them? There would be the risk they'd tell him and he'd hide evidence or leak it to the press etc. I cannot see why the MET would do that. First rule of investigating allegations is confidentiality.
And, yes, investigations can take time, but surely computers etc would have been checked in 6 years. If the MET took it seriously enough to "tell HAM" then they would have taken it seriously enough to investigate.

But also I can't see HAM sitting on it all this time when being criticised for not making contact, with all the clapbacks they do for smaller things. And leaving TM to speak to the papers - wouldn't they have spoken to him and said something along the lines of "we know there are allegations of CSA, that is why we are not talking to you. We're protecting you by pretending it's something else, but if you keep complaining in the media we will tell them."
They have had no guilt about telling other things, so why sit on that?

I don't think this pushed the moonlight flit on its own either. Why would her estranged father being investigated lead to that? There's no common sense for them to flee an investigation for an estranged family member, that has nothing to do with them. If they'd been implicated, then they might think that trying to get under the RF's protection would be helpful, but there isn't any suggestion at all of that.

The Metropolitan police need to clarify what they suspected/knew and what they did or did not do about it - giving justifications for their actions.
Otherwise it looks like they knew Thomas Markle was a child sex pervert - and they warned Meghan and the Royal family to distance themselves - but then did nothing else.
I’m not saying that’s what happened, but that’s what comes across from the information currently available.

Kingsandqueenz · 23/10/2026 13:54

LifeIsTooShort247 · 23/10/2026 13:34

It goes without saying especially if you don't know the person, that there is always more you won't know unless you are privy to it. Why should she had shared it if there were ongoing investigations, don't you think that could of caused a problem. Let's apply some common sense here.

Harry says he blames himself for Meghan having no relationship with her father.. as usual they are out of step with each other & their contradicting stories. All bullshit served with word salad.

I'm not saying it's the perfect defence. But since when has that stopped HaM 😅
I think they think it would be a good deflection for anyone not wanting/being bothered to look up dates and facts. Which includes most humans and the rabid SS.

jeffgoldblum · 23/10/2026 13:54

The other issue I see is this ! , this is an accusation sold to the sun by her brother who also previously made nasty accusations about Meghan being dangerous around children and animals and having had a hysterectomy! , we all discounted him as being a liar and trouble maker after money and fame …..but apparently now the very same people condemning him and defending Meghan are convinced by his accusations this time? Why?

Here you go, @valeriy2!
Or is the House of Commons in on the conspiracy too 👀?

They will be used if at all to disinherit the Sussxes of their titles - Bower and others are trying to get a mob going in the media to suggest their is no alternative indeed he is suggesting that he/they will go after KC if he is reluctant to wield his cantankerous pen.

Possibly not. They seems to be driving them into bankruptcy.

I always thought the hysterectomy claim was bizarre. It seems like such a random claim to make.

Heyelpheyelp · 23/10/2026 13:59

bluegreygreen · 23/10/2026 13:48

Can we reasonably assume that the Royal Family knew about these allegations if Meghan used her protection to report them?

Meghan's own statement says that the Met Police received a letter and informed her, not the other way around.

The RF may or may not have known about an allegation contained in a letter to the Met Police. We don't know.

If the argument is that members of the family knew, then surely the institution itself bears far greater responsibility for any failure to act than a family member who was personally burdened by that knowledge.

What action would there be for the RF to take about an allegation made in a letter to the Met Police about a US citizen living in Mexico?

If such a letter indeed exists, presumably it was dealt with according to the usual procedure for such letters.

If the metropolitan police told Meghan about it then I think the Royal family would know too.
The Royal family should have insisted that the information was passed on to the police in Mexico - and put pressure on Mexican authorities to ensure it was investigated.

I have no idea who Bower is, but none of this makes sense and would appear to be something of a conspiracy theory, so I really think I'm going to leave it at that.

Because, firstly, they will have been through The Sun’s legal processes, which are likely to be thorough, before being cleared for publication. Secondly, Meghan has now broken her silence to tell us what she knew and when she knew it.This is far more serious than vicious tittle tattle and therefore worthy of more serious consideration.

FancyKitten · 23/10/2026 14:01

We know a lot about Meghan from Meghan herself. In the last 9 years she has shared a good deal. She has done many interviews, print and tv and shared a significant amount of personal detail.
She has shown us who she is. Meghan herself. So yes, there's a pretty good, clear picture of the Duchess of Sussex.

Indeed. They could have had privacy in Canada. Or even done RF work within the Commonwealth, had they continued as WRF.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/10/2026 14:02

AtIusvue · 23/10/2026 10:52

Agree. Her statement brings up even more questions.

Yes, Atlusvue, and one of them is WHEN she first found out about this

I don't know if anyone's picked up on this, but the statement said "In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me"

And "subsequently" doesn't tell us when it was shared with her

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 23/10/2026 14:02

SiegfriedSassoon · 23/10/2026 13:42

But if finding out that her father was involved in child sex abuse was what prompted her mental health breakdown then surely that makes it all the worse that she went on Oprah and lied saying it was because of the racist bullying RF, British media and British public (who had been forced to pay millions for her wedding security).

I absolutely agree, their version of ‘the truth’ is never the whole truth - it’s the story they told themselves. I’ve always felt that the blame for not seeking proper help rests totally with Harry.

Tom Bowyer - a vicious journalist and biographer and seemingly a friend of Camilla or at least a useful mouthpiece. By disinherit I mean remove.

So, not disinherit then.
I'm not interested in conspiracy theories or wild unsubstantiated claims about Camilla.
None of this is remotely relevant to the Letters Patent.
