We had what Meghan said herself. So you're right, what she says isn't always factual, that's true.

It goes without saying especially if you don't know the person, that there is always more you won't know unless you are privy to it. Why should she had shared it if there were ongoing investigations, don't you think that could of caused a problem. Let's apply some common sense here.

Remember! She is the Duchess of Sussex! Cutseys and jam purchasing only.
No challenge to what she does or says 👑

Correct - no doubt Bowyer et al is currently assembling a posse of vigilantes to get their titles removed and hit them with Letters Patent aplenty. I don't trot I walk.

It's just the usual insults from those who have no valid argument to offer, jeff

I knew I should have stuck to the PR disasters threads (and usually do) because the quality of discussion's so much better

"vigilantes" do not issue Letters Patent.

Guess it also answers why they never said a word about Andrew, knowing much worse was lurking in their own family.

I always thought that was because of Meghan’s alleged links to Epstein and co .

We know a lot about Meghan from Meghan herself. In the last 9 years she has shared a good deal. She has done many interviews, print and tv and shared a significant amount of personal detail.
She has shown us who she is. Meghan herself. So yes, there's a pretty good, clear picture of the Duchess of Sussex.

No, they can whip the mob into a frenzy, allowing the velvet glove to do its work in broad daylight, cloaked in the respectability of virtuous formalism.

Can we reasonably assume that the Royal Family knew about these allegations if Meghan used her protection to report them? And if so, why did they stand aside while the press attack dogs savaged her for distancing herself from Mr Markle?

If the argument is that members of the family knew, then surely the institution itself bears far greater responsibility for any failure to act than a family member who was personally burdened by that knowledge. We need to distinguish between an individual struggling with something deeply distressing and an institution that may have had the means, authority and responsibility to respond.

This is the 'excuse' (for want of time to think of the correct term) MM needs to go for. Deflect onto the RF.

MargaretThursday · 23/10/2026 13:41

It makes no sense.

Why did the met get a letter about a US citizen who wasn't living in the UK?
If they were investigating allegations, why would they go to HAM and tell them? There would be the risk they'd tell him and he'd hide evidence or leak it to the press etc. I cannot see why the MET would do that. First rule of investigating allegations is confidentiality.
And, yes, investigations can take time, but surely computers etc would have been checked in 6 years. If the MET took it seriously enough to "tell HAM" then they would have taken it seriously enough to investigate.

But also I can't see HAM sitting on it all this time when being criticised for not making contact, with all the clapbacks they do for smaller things. And leaving TM to speak to the papers - wouldn't they have spoken to him and said something along the lines of "we know there are allegations of CSA, that is why we are not talking to you. We're protecting you by pretending it's something else, but if you keep complaining in the media we will tell them."
They have had no guilt about telling other things, so why sit on that?

I don't think this pushed the moonlight flit on its own either. Why would her estranged father being investigated lead to that? There's no common sense for them to flee an investigation for an estranged family member, that has nothing to do with them. If they'd been implicated, then they might think that trying to get under the RF's protection would be helpful, but there isn't any suggestion at all of that.

So there's a team of vigilantes, planning to get Letters Patent to get rid of titles?
Blimey, that's all a bit tin foil hat!

I suspect that during their engagement and leading up to the wedding the Met close protection service and other HMservices were tasked with investigating Meghan’s family background and identifying any current or future risks to the safety (and reputation) of the RF.
As mentioned upthread many cases of CSA - particularly indecent images are identified through forensic analysis of persons downloading images or subscribing to sites. It is very likely that the FBI will have provided the UK services with information that Markle Snr was under some suspicion although not sufficient (at that stage) to pursue and as no longer resident in the US unlikely to go further.
This information will have been shared with HMLQ and then Meghan presumably. Maybe advised or decided to cut contact, frankly the Markle family were a PR nightmare with all their dysfunctional behaviour and selling stories to the press anyrate. Now I have very little sympathy with M in her behaviour in many many other ways - but on this I cannot help think this must have been a nightmare for her and could have been part of the trigger for her claimed mental health crisis and will for the time being give her the benefit of the doubt. There is enough other stuff to castigate HaM about!
However I do think this story will run and run for months and unfortunately both HaM are proven as unreliable narrators of their own story.
And there are also questions of how this may have been handled behind the scenes - What did the RF know? Did the FBI cover anything up? Why did Thomas Jnr’s original report earlier this year not go anywhere at first?
I do think this is why they returned to the UK.

But if finding out that her father was involved in child sex abuse was what prompted her mental health breakdown then surely that makes it all the worse that she went on Oprah and lied saying it was because of the racist bullying RF, British media and British public (who had been forced to pay millions for her wedding security).

Meghan's own statement says that the Met Police received a letter and informed her, not the other way around.

The RF may or may not have known about an allegation contained in a letter to the Met Police. We don't know.

If the argument is that members of the family knew, then surely the institution itself bears far greater responsibility for any failure to act than a family member who was personally burdened by that knowledge.

What action would there be for the RF to take about an allegation made in a letter to the Met Police about a US citizen living in Mexico?

If such a letter indeed exists, presumably it was dealt with according to the usual procedure for such letters.

I just saw in the newspaper that Meghan was made aware months after her wedding. Yet at no time when they were lambasting the RF and telling us how depressed she was did she at any stage allude to outside factors perhaps be a contributory reason for her depression.

Theyre despicable
