If investigations were ongoing since 2018, would a suspected paodophile be allowed travel? He was living in the phillipines. Was he cleared in 2018 but re-offended recently?

That bit of the discussion missed me. I absolutely agree with you @jeffgoldblum

It’s easy Mrsleon the threads move at the speed of light lately!

There was nothing stopping them using their press contacts- to leak info that they had received a letter with concerning allegations and have decided that because of this information they were given, have decided to cut off contact.

Didnt have to spell out the allegations, didn’t have to give any revealing info. That was enough. Enough for the press to do their own digging.

Edited

They could have done that I agree. But i can understand why they didn't, particularly at that stage.

I haven't read all the posts but I think that statement is clear and makes the ignoring of her father completely understandable. If Meghan thought something was being investigated she wouldn't say anything.

I feel a lot of sympathy for her, these allegations are devastating for any family and when you are in the public eye, knowing everyone is taking and the family rift and drawing their own conclusions, it must make it hard.

It isn't a surprise, as I said on the other thread, I always felt the way her family attacked and pressured Meghan through the press was abusive.

I usually always agree with you, but not this time.
I don't feel the statement is clear, or helpful.
It just raises more questions.

It completely contradicts all their previous comments about her father (& I don't disagree her paternal family appear appalling).

Why say the estrangement was about the pap photos and pressure of the wedding? Why the leaked letter to People? Why had Harry never once met him?

Most importantly, she never once in 8yrs thought to ask about the investigation? And why tf were the Met involved in allegations about a US citizen who had never lived in the UK?

A far clearer and understandable statement would be something like "I'm shocked and appalled to hear of this, my thoughts are with all children impacted by this, I will say nothing more until the investigation is concluded".

This is a horrible situation for her to deal with, but yet again, her inability to not use 300 words when 3 would suffice is going to cause her more problems.

To be clear what Meghan did as an actress was her job and should never be used against her .
I think we can all agree on that.
pointing out it is at odds with feminism claims is one thing using a scene in a tv show to shame Is another.

Yes in your opinion but as we know people make their own choices. Meghan took a certain path. Others choose different paths without this. My opinion is it's fair to talk about it. We will have to agree to disagree on this. There's room for all opinions on here.

Choux · 23/10/2026 12:10

”I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications' distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them. I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.”

So she knew since 2018 and believed authorities were investigating in whatever country had jusrisdiction. But no charges ever came about so presumably there was no evidence? And she would have known no charges had been filed.

Yet when she had children these allegations were the reason she did not allow them contact with their grandfather from who, HAM were already estranged and whom H had never even met? No they weren’t the reason she didn’t let her dad see her kids. That statement is so misleading…all trying to vindicate her for cutting her dad out of her life.

mysoddenbananabread · 23/10/2026 12:12

The letter Meghan wrote to her father in 2018 is still available online from the court case and she says she is loyal to him.

MrsLeonFarrell · 23/10/2026 12:08

They could have done that I agree. But i can understand why they didn't, particularly at that stage.

Because they wanted to cover it up. That’s the only reason.

For a pair, who taught to shine a light on the stifling, caged life of a RF member. So terrible are the conditions, they had to speak out.

But they didn’t over this? They spoke out on many issues where they had no concrete evidence but it never stopped them.

The only difference is you don’t get money for speaking out on CSA.

The letter Meghan wrote to her father in 2018 is still available online from the court case and she says she is loyal to him.

Now she has put herself into a position where she going to have to reveal dates and what exactly she was told to try and clear up this mess.

This is a complete disaster from her end

valeriy2 · 23/10/2026 12:05

I am stating the facts as we know them. Samantha Markel says this is a put up job. Meghan with her statement says otherwise and appears to agree with her brother. It's all an almighty terrible , horrific mess and tangentially it reflects on the overall image of the Royal Family in as much that's it a grim never ending soap opera.

I don't think this reflects on the overall image of the Royal Family but that's a good stretch there.

Just leave these people alone. None of you know them, but put so much horrible energy out about them. It's bullying and sad, do you really want to be THAT person.

Leave them alone? It's a major news story. If the BBC are covering it, I'm pretty sure we're allowed to discuss it.
Also, why does it matter that we don't know them? I'm pretty sure that newsreader doesn't either, but he's talking about them.

StrawberryWasp · 23/10/2026 12:16

Didn't Harry say at the time of the wedding he was trying to sort things out and get her dad over here?
Or something like this? This is from memory.

MrsFinkelstein · 23/10/2026 12:17

valeriy2 · 23/10/2026 11:51

We don’t know, and I can only imagine what a burden that knowledge must have been to bear. But what we do know is that the late Queen paid millions of pounds to settle the allegations against her son, who maintained contact with a convicted paedophile whilst Virginia Giuffre, one of the women who accused Andrew of sexual abuse, later died by suicide. Meanwhile, Andrew continues to live on the Royal Estate under the protection of his brother, the King. And this dwarfs any supposed transgressions by Meghan in perpetuity.

Nice try at deflection and whataboutism, but the AMW threads are that way.

Horses7 · 23/10/2026 12:17

Starryfifty · 23/10/2026 10:58

Exactly! She shouldn't have said anything yet until everything is very clear. Markle Senior has come out denying everything and claims he's been stitched up by his son. What an absolute shitshow

Yes they always jump in too soon - said in haste repent at leisure.
There’ll now be loads of people who say if she had this knowledge (and obviously believed it as she’s now saying that’s the reason she Markled him) why wasn’t she more proactive?
Just when I thought it all couldn’t get any messier or horrible this happens.
I'm keeping an open mind until more is proven.

I’m very confused, someone sent a letter to the met and the royal protection services and Meghan was assured it was being dealt with, did no one think to follow up that after 8 years it was tumbleweed? Nothing was heard about it ever again? No one pushed on an investigation? It’s interesting that her statement mentions the RPS, so they did nothing either? What the actual fuck is going on here??

It's really baffling. H&M just took it as read for the last eight years that it was being dealt with? What about when TM Snr moved to the Philippines, a known hot spot for depraved men?Would that not trigger them to chase up what was going on, knowing he might be committing offences there?

Choux · 23/10/2026 12:18

The BBC have asked the Met (and Markle Snr) for a comment. I wonder how or if the Met will respond.

Sometimeroyalist · 23/10/2026 12:18

The one bit of the Meghan letter that is plausible is that the Met knew all about it and has done nothing for 8 years. They are utterly useless and have a particularly bad track record on investigating SA.

AtIusvue · 23/10/2026 12:19

interesting, comments in the NYPost having absolutely none of it.

They are all saying what we’re saying. Why didn’t she say something? Why did she cover it up? Why did they say they fell out with him because of his press collusion? Why did Harry says it’s his fault Meg doesn’t have a father? What she’s saying doesn’t make sense.

Unfortunately, the DM comments are embarrassing…..seem to believe Markle Snr is completely innocent.

I think her dad let her down badly with the wedding. It was really embarrassing, and Charles was very kind to her (and Doria). I also think that TM was not ready for it all (I mean, his daughter was marrying Prince Harry!). The marriage just happened too quickly…

But M did nothing to help (leaving aside current revelations). Wouldn't you introduce a new partner to your family when you thought you were getting serious? H could have got know Mr M in 2017, then at the time of the engagement he could have been invited to Sandringham to meet the RF in a low key way out of the public eye....

He can't have been completely uncouth. He had a profession, one brother was in the diplomatic service, the other was a priest, I think? He valued education, he helped out with drama productions at M's school.

Yes, everything you are saying makes total sense, through the lens of what we previously knew. And what Harry & Meghan have said themselves about their families. It’s what I would have thought too (my comment was made before seeing MM update).

But now, with Meghan’s statement on the current situation with her father. They would have had to drop him from the wedding, of course. But from RF point of view, WTF…

But how could they investigate when her dad was a US citizen not living in the UK and presumably the computers holding any images were not in the UK? They could pass it to the Mexican authorities as that is where Thomas was in 2018 but after that it’s not their investigation to do.

Now they might have kept tabs on what Mexican police were doing and kept the Sussexes and BP informed of any updates but that is all they had to do.

I absolutely agree. There has been lots of speculation recently about H&Ms pathetic & desperate attempts to reconcile with the royal family . People are rightly questioning why no reconciliation with the Markle family?

This is Meghan's attempt to justify her position however it completely contradicts what Harry said & what she said originally.

Also how was Thomas Markle allowed leave the US, live in the Philippines & travel back to the US if he was under such serious investigation. None of this makes sense!

I don't know why the Met would investigate – he hasn't set foot on British soil in all the time M's been with H.

IAmATorturedPoet · 23/10/2026 12:24

She wrote to him in August 2018 (the DM leaked letter that needed to pull at the heartstrings 🙄) and we are told another letter again when he was in hospital in the Philippines in 2025 (?) 🤷‍♀️
