Well we have had the attempted upstaging of the Welsh senate …..now the Oman state visit….we all hope that whatever advisors that they still have will not allow any thing to interfere with Aberfan! 🤞

I have a question as far as removing HaM's titles go. Could Parliament remove them 'on their own'? I believe they give assent to the Monarch's desire to remove titles, but do they have the power to, shall we say, 'strongly encourage' the Monarch to do so?

I can understand some of the reasoning behind KC not removing the titles. HaM are a pain in the arse to him and have said and done some spectacularly stupid and/or cruel things, but if we have to look at AMW as the 'precedent' for title removal, HaM still fall pretty short of that. And there's the matter of giving them more fuel for their "We was WRONGED!!!" fire.

But if Parliament was to 'recommend' removal then wouldn't KC have little choice? Not saying that would ever happen, I'm just curious.

Oh I wish.....

It would be a good solution to addressing the damage HAM do to the Monarchy without the Monarchy having to risk further damage by looking petty.

IMHO they could have easily had what Zara and Mike have - earn their own money and still be welcome at Christmas at Sandringham, summers in Balmoral and Easter at Windsor etc.

The problem was that they wanted to exploit their titles for commercial interests AND continue to do certain events as senior royals, which was really incompatible.

Then of course their decision to sell out their family for Netflix and Spare cash made it impossible to trust them.

Yes I agree but I still don’t think it would be enough for the HAMs, if the estimate is correct that they get approximately 2 million a year from sponsorship deals that would not touch the sides for HAM, ZAM don’t have any housing costs as they live on the Gatcombe Estate, they don’t require or even feel the need for 24/7 armed security and as far as I can tell they don’t use private jets either. I also don’t see how they could earn as much as ZAM because they don’t have any talent, ZAM are elite, accomplished sports people so they have a ready made audience, HAMs audience is the sewer squad and I don’t think they are of the demographic who appeal to Range Rover and Rolex.

I’m not ashamed to say I’m in tears reading that Harry!

One of the reasons I could not do this part of the work the senior royals do - I couldn’t hold it together to listen to stories like that without weeping - which ends up making it all about your own feelings. Being able to listen to the worst experiences with compassion and still hold it together, say the right thing and not blubbing.

I'm sure he made a lot with the book, the Netflix series,... but I read they spend 1 million a year on security

I think he spends a lot more than that on security. They saw him coming. And pretend to be his best friends.

Yep ! Me too wordler , I only read it here second hand and I’m still crying….trying desperately not to connect it to my own son upstairs and failing miserably, had I been there in person, I have no idea how I would behave….possibly doing a Meghan special….prostrate on the floor sobbing!

I guess Harry won’t be getting a million dollar payday for a Diana documentary from
Netflix, small mercy’s in a huge crises for Netflix.

That’s a good point. Has Netflix properly binned them off? Will they be left with just a one-off ‘Diana podcast’ with Uncle Spencer, Cat #4-Wife Jarman and Rev Richard Coles?

I know. It's like when the late Queen went to Dunblane and listened to the stories. Heartbreaking 💔

I remember it. I remember coming home from primary school with my siblings, and we found Mum on the sofa, weeping. She'd heard the news about Aberfan and thought about the parents whose children wouldn't be walking through the door from school that day.
That's 60 years ago and I have never forgotten her grief.

This may have been posted already (currently read up to page 22) but this is from Rebecca English:

”I know I write about the royals, but this from Aberfan today just broke me.
It’s from Diane Thomas, 78, a rescuer from the Red Cross who was only 18 at the time of the disaster, and spoke to Prince William.
She said: ‘The chapel had been converted into a mortuary so I spent three nights in the mortuary, bathing the children, to try and get slurry off their little faces so their parents could recognise them.
‘I took the anorak off one little boy, put my hand in his pocket and came out [with a note that] he’d had eight out of 10 for spelling. I’ve been trying all these years to think about how I can trace his mum. I can’t but I want to tell her because I was the last person to hold him and bathe him.’
This is why today is so important.”

This puts the extra sausage into perspective, doesn’t it?

How sad. This reminds me of the ladies of Lockerbie who washed all the items of clothing that were recovered after the Pan Am massacre so they could be returned to relatives.

I have visited the memorial garden and the cemetery in Aberfan. It’s a very sobering experience. The rows of the graves , many of which have portraits of those who lost their lives is heartbreaking.
Never to be forgotten.

That’s so sad William…although I would rather not hear these things for personal reasons….it’s something that needs to be shared and discussed rather than just put aside for our own comfort.❤️

I remember that day so well. Just back from my honeymoon and seeing on TV the map showing where Aberfan is and realising that it was just literally over the hill, in the next valley, from Aberdare which is where all my family come from. We were there last year. Still surrounded by slag heaps although they are all grassed over now. I doubt that makes them all safe though.

I do William, I admit that since having my own children my tolerance and ability to hear things happening to children has become nil , I’m not normally an over emotional person but a switch tripped and here we are! 🤷‍♀️

They've done it before, AcrossthePond, with the 1917 Act to remove titles from those who fought against us in the first World War - though it's a pity they didn't remove the lot from the nazi enabler Edward VIII during WW2

It's true the monarch has to give assent, but in theory they're supposed to go by ministerial advice, even if there's far too much fudging

We would have no idea but both seem so awkward/uncomfortable with children. They speak very oddly about their own children too. It's as if they are reading from a script on how children "should be" iykwim? Lili loves pink. A loves football. A screams and clings to h when he retires home (from where, who knows). Meg having Lili pose at her feet before the Geneva roundabout speech. A
loves her so much (?)

Edited

I think that how they talk about their children is incredibly creepy and disturbing.
I have never heard anyone speak like they do about DCs.
I suspect that they are largely cared for by Nannie’s and wheeled out for photo opportunities. They never seem to be seen with other children,
I really do feel sorry for them, it’s such an artificial and contrived environment.

It is a noticeable pattern on here that when the HAMs are spectacularly failing and making tits of themselves and the Royals are doing what they do best and magnificently so as the State banquet and the Aberfan memorial shows, the name calling and personal attacks ramps up several gears.

This is why it's better ignored, BWLT
I'm a committed republican myself, but certainly don't call people silly names just because they happen to hold a different view, and while I'd be only too happy to see the back of the monarchy I'd much rather it was done in a calm and rational manner instead of by attacks and destablilisation

I'm sure that's the position of many people, and I think we're probably on a continuum. We certainly never resort to name calling and offensive abuse.
We're also articulate and literate! 😇

I have a question on the back of your question; if HaMs’ titles were removed, would they be able to challenge this in a British court? We all know how fond H is of his court cases!

My understanding from the article by Professor Master Graham Zellick is that with regard to titles and styles, Harry couldn’t challenge the removal of HRH and Prince. He might be able to challenge the removal of the royal duke title unless it went through parliament, although of course it doesn’t come with lands or assets so he’s left challenging something he was given as an honour by the monarch, and what the monarch can create with the stroke of a pen the monarch can take away.

Note: Harry’s done many more inappropriate things since this was written.

https://middletemplar.org.uk/to-strip-or-not-to-strip-prince-harrys-titles/

He would still be left as ‘Sir’ as QEII knighted him when he left the army for services to the monarch. That’s one that also sticks in my craw.

To Strip or Not to Strip Prince Harry's Titles | Middle Templar Magazine

Amidst the clamour for the Duke of Sussex to be stripped of his titles, Master Graham Zellick examines Prince Harry’s various titles – prince, duke, HRH. He analyses if and how they might be removed and the wisdom and likelihood of this being done, que...
