Well we have had the attempted upstaging of the Welsh senate …..now the Oman state visit….we all hope that whatever advisors that they still have will not allow any thing to interfere with Aberfan! 🤞

William has really come into his own in the last few years as heir. Possibly because he's had to, with the King being ill, but don't you think he has an air of maturity and statesmanship about him that wasn't as evident pre-Freedom Flight?

Apparently – I've just seen this on x.com – Harry thought William wouldn't cope with the pressures of the role without him and he's deeply frustrated that he's patently no longer needed by his brother, or wanted.

Probably been said before, but how exactly would H see a reconciliation playing out? No member of the RF can trust that a word spoken or action taken in the presence of HAM would not be used for future ammunition against them? Or twisted? HAM have proven they cannot be discreet and any meeting with W would just be regurgitated for attention at some future point.

It’s a good point. I don’t suppose H has suggested that he and M sign NDAs and give a public apology to the country and his family? No, thought not. Neither can I see them properly atoning and carrying out genuine acts of penitence (I’m back to thinking about John Profumo). H has no road-map for this beyond ‘it’s William’s fault anyway’. Pathetic.

By "reconciliation" Harry means "reinstate me as a senior working royal and pretend the last 7 years haven't happened and forget all our lies and manipulation"

You forgot "and apologise because it's All Your Fault".

And in fact, H was holding him back and stifling him?! Interesting.

The death of QEII must have been significant too, running parallel - but H’s absence allowed W to develop the role of heir his way not Harry’s way.

JSMill · 21/10/2026 07:37

Why do the media still act like H whingeing is an important news story? The fallout happened several years ago now, he’s spoken about it endlessly and the vast majority of the population blame him.

Yes I agree that W is doing a great job and is popular across the world. H must be seething.

I've no idea, it was actually on the BBC news website as the third most important story. Nothing at all about the Oman banquet. When I looked this morning, they had briefly covered the banquet, but in the report added that "Harry wanted to reconcile with his family ".
Now there's the usual item on GMB news, giving it airspace. Unbelievable.

It is worrying that at a time when the UK’s Head of State needs to be projecting stability and strength more than ever, his own son and royal duke is carrying on like a saboteur.

Talking of which, I liked the colours worn by Camilla and Catherine, blue and yellow, and wonder if there was maybe some symbolism of unity there? 🇺🇦🇪🇺(The men seem to be given set-piece ceremonial uniforms?)

I thought similar about the Ukraine colours, @AutumnCrowSeesDensePeople . I do hope so. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦 Thanks for sharing the Times article which is spot on.

From the Independent piece:
The King spoke in Arabic, quoting poetry in an ancient form of the language and modern Arabic to greet the Sultan with the words “Welcome to a visitor of whom one never tires”.
Class. Harry could never.

What a beautiful greeting. This is diplomacy.

As a minimum H and M would have to agree to a press blackout in terms of sharing private conversations. But I think the constant scrutiny would be too overwhelming for William to even consider a reconciliation – every photo dissected for signs of discord, drip-feed of rumours to the press, Harry's spokesperson rushing to clarify everything. He's learned to live without his brother for six years and I can't see a single benefit to letting Harry back in his life.

Honestly, if they try and stage something on the Aberfan anniversary, I don't think there will be any coming back from that.
There are plenty of people in the uk, and especially Wales, who remember the disaster and its devastation very well.
It was one of the few times QE2 got it wrong, and she was heavily criticised for it at the time.
But I really wouldn't put anything past them tbh

I wish people would stop saying this. A survivor has said she was right to wait. Her arrival would have brought work to follow protocol and they had enough to do. The late Queen regretted it forever, she had no need to according to the survivor, why keep perpetuating this wrong?

Harry, have you tried getting your point across in mime? It might be clearer.

I agree, too much has happened. William has faced a shocking betrayal from Harry; worse, Catherine was attacked in the most unpleasant and cruel way. She and KC have dealt with cancer and ongoing treatment.
So at any point William could have had to step up as HoS while supporting three young children whose Mum has cancer, and try to have a stable and loving home.
Too much has happened. Harry has been dishonest, manipulative, greedy and cruel. William doesn't need someone like that.

I would have thought more "pay us to live in luxury as we deserve & we'll shut up".

Although I think they like the attention too much.

JSMill · 21/10/2026 08:01

I would imagine if I had fallen out with my sibling, then had to get through both my father and my partner falling ill with cancer at the same time without their support, I would conclude I could live without them.

But it's from the horse's mouth! The Queen's former private secretary Lord Charteris said he was the one who advised her to wait, which in hindsight the Palace decided was bad advice and that the Queen regretted not going sooner. This was also reported by Gyles Brandreth, Prince Philip's biographer and a close friend of his. So yes, survivors might have said she was right to stay away, but the Queen still thought she'd made an error.

Indeed. So would I. Factor in the demanding role of stepping up as HoS and it's a no brainer.

And what utter hypocrisy and bullshit! He incessantly whinges about Diana, his trauma etc, etc.
…But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past, that's something that I would encourage everybody to do"
Seriously?

I want to advise him... Harry, don't start a sentence unless you have a plan for getting to the end - while respecting basic grammar principles of course.

On a strangely positive note, it does seem as if he's reading MN and the DM's BTL: at last he has come to some kind of recognition that a. "some people don't want the reconciliation to work", and b. "I'm not asking for sympathy because I'm a prince and have had therapy and support".

He has turned out to be a very odd, unpleasant man. The unexpected way he turned on Catherine showed he is prepared to act as an attack dog, which makes him a risk in the future.

How was an ‘operation thaw’ ever going to be feasible without an abject apology and promise to his family and country that he will not repeat the behaviour?

Mostly that Meghan had no idea what she was getting into at all. Not entirely her fault, but…

Edited

No-one who hasn't been brought up in it has any idea 'what they're getting into' when they marry into the royals. That's why she was offered people who could help her learn and negotiate it. Diana struggled and she grew up around the royals.
