A crowd has turned out to see them. It’s currently being covered live on Sky News. Why on earth would anyone do this?

They aren’t working royals. They are just a pair of chancers who have scuttled back to Britain with their tails between their legs because they have died on their arses in the US. And now people are tugging their forelocks to them here.

People really are absolute fucking morons.

I just can’t see why people are so angry. It’s not like they’re pretending to be working royals. He’s not wearing a King Charles mask.

Barack Obama was in Glasgow yesterday: there were people outside his hotel hoping to catch a glimpse. He’s not a working royal either. Wouldn’t be my bag, but I really don’t know why people are taking it so badly.

Yes, Harry and Barrack Obama are just alike!

Of course they are pretending to be a "working royal." Why else would they talk about "official engagements"? There is nothing official about patronizing private charities.

Obama is in a different league... Unlike Harry, Obama had the backing of more than 65 million people—there must be a reason for that. And, for better or worse (depending on how you look at it), he has made an impact on the world in a way that Harry couldn’t even dream of.
There is no comparison to be made.

If you’re interested in the royal family why does it make a difference if they’re working royals or not? They’re still part of the family. I was once mildly amused to find myself Christmas shopping alongside Princess Anne, but it never occurred to me to think about that interaction in light of how many public engagements she does. Do the people who go to celeb-watch at film premieres not go if they think the stars don’t work enough? It’s the celebrity that’s the draw, surely? Lots of people just like gawping at famous folk.

Me too! Except she chose to interact with me,! Yo complain a bit about the prices in a Hebridean mill. She wasn't wrong though! Eye watering prices.

Constantrunner · 15/10/2026 17:16

This kind of complaint is so strange.
How dare someone not supported by taxpayers visit charities and do a public walkabout on their own money!!!!
Harry has supported these charities for years and years. They obviously appreciate his support and people obviously want to see them both.

Justine, MN's founder, accurately described those people that consistently swarm to her site to criticise the Duke & Duchess of Sussex (particularly the Duchess) as 'DERANGED'. Her words 😅

She is correct.

OliveMyLove · 15/10/2026 16:41

She wasn’t that explicit. She called this forum unhinged. Why do you think she didn’t mean absolutely everyone who posts here?

Oh, I know you’ll be thinking “me? Not me! She couldn’t have meant me!”

She was very clear (there was/is no ambiguity) about the type of poster that she considered 'deranged'.

dulwich999 · 15/10/2026 16:51

The difference is that some of the ‘weirdos’ that turned up today thought that Harry should be the next king.

They have not quite grasped the reality of the situation but I still wouldn’t call them weirdos.

Wow, the UK national death wish is as bad as the American one!

As I appear to have fallen foul of mumsnet's rules regarding TAATs, plus I don't come anywhere near close enough to caring about it to have bothered to count, feel free to do your own analysis. The raw data's right there.

Let’s call this a rejection of facts and statistics in favor of emotions on which to base judgements, then.

Oh, hi there. Good to see you again.

BemusedAmerican · 15/10/2026 17:34

Well, a few years ago I was convinced one of the MN mods was pro- Sussex Squad. Based on what I've seen over the years, I've had my doubts about the MN mods.

People do. At least 50 of them. Or at least they agreed to turn out when asked.

Weird people are claiming otherwise 😂

Cloverroll · 15/10/2026 17:37

They wanted a half-in, half-out arrangement and QE2 said no. Now they've decided to do it anyway.

I don’t think the issue is that they are visiting those organizations.
The issue is that it was labeled an "official engagement." There is nothing official about it; it is, as you say, a private engagement.
And it’s happening on the very same day that the King and Queen are opening the Parliament in Wales... That only adds to the annoyance—the deliberate choice of that date.

Everyone always says the Royals never publicise their events in advance for security reasons, so how were they supposed to know??

LowlandLucky · 15/10/2026 11:55

Semmingly there were less than 50 people there to welcome them and they had to be herded together so the Press could get the crowd shot.

What nonsense. The press would love a sparse crowd shot. They did exactly this - revelling in the lack of people for William’s cricket thing in the mall.

Constantrunner · 15/10/2026 17:46

@NocturnalFox why should they avoid every single day when the king and queen are doing anything? Trust me, nobody in England where Nottingham is cares about the Welsh opening of parliament.

Okay I did not know only royals are allowed to use the word official. What a load of nonsense. If it was described as a royal visit there would be grounds to complain.
And official obviously means working in this context rather than a leisure visit.

The truth is you all think only royals are allowed to visit charities. Which is especially strange when you simply get famous people doing clearly royal duties like investitures.
