Interesting point about coverage of HaM being useful to the RF. Seen through that lens (🤮), they are digging their own grave. Coverage in a nutshell is: drama, whinging, fabrication, booing, risible fashion, entitlement, bad planning, Cotswold cold shoulder, exploited children.

It's beyond me to understand why charities have any truck with HaM.

Exactly, Ida, and since the RF have problems enough I'd hope the reception this awful pair are getting will be enough for them to maintain the distance that appears to be in place now

Ironically perhaps, as a republican it would suit me just fine to see the whole lot go, but I'd much rather it happened in a measured and sensible way than as a result of this kind of thing

My position is that I'd rather have the monarchy than a President @Puzzled However, the finances need reform. And the cap-doffing of some is absurd.

It has always been the case that the monarchy has to justify its existence. The years of shielding Andrew have taken their toll, along with numerous financial scandals. Now a son of the king and his wife are behaving badly without consequence. Their royal-style events are poorly organised because they don't have experienced advisers. It is a reasonable position to maintain that they pose a threat to the monarchy, and that the monarchy is likely to be weakened if it does nothing.

I suppose the monarchy will do what makes the monarchy successful. The MIGS and the WRF must have ‘gamed’ all the potential outcomes and have a plan.

Well I bloody hope they have a plan. Because this can’t go on. It’s a messy mess and I don’t like messiness.

Local residents in Sussex have a campaign "not my Duke". Palace should start listening

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 16:28

It's worth pointing out that the King's letter to the Lords Lieutenant did not call the Sussexes private citizens, which is how it continues to be erroneously reported. It said that 'their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.'

It was a reminder that the Sussex position had not changed since Sandringham, and that they were not representing the monarch (and hence the government) in any way. Arrangements made by any organisation hosting them were therefore the responsibility of that organisation.

I despair at the inability of some people to listen to what is said and understand it. The Lord Chamberlain's has not said the Sussexes are private citizens. Andy Burnham has not said we are going back into the EU by Christmas.

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 16:35

I'm just catching up, so apologies for multiple posts.

Some clarity around dates:

Thursday 13th October: King & Queen at opening of Senedd, Sussexes in Nottingham

20th - 22nd October: State visit from Oman

21st October: King, Queen & PoW visit to Aberfan

Very true, Ida, but I do sometimes wonder if the coverage suits the RF in at least one way ... that of discovering exactly what H&MS' reception is before making future decisions

I realise I'm in a minority here, but still believe that if the public welcome had been better there'd be a chance of a greater profile for them - at least while Charles lives - and that various reporters are almost doing his job for him

And if Angela Levin's right about them previously ghosting tomorrow's charity, @Starryfifty, you have to wonder why the hell they're having H&M back.
It may be that last time the charity needed them, and it's definitely the case that they now need the charity, but it still seems a dubious choice to me

I wish I knew what was going on with this Trevor Rose guy. He is apparently the founder and chief executive of the Community Recording Studio in St Anne’s, Nottingham, but I hope others in the organisation get a say too.

I think the excuse is that Harry didn’t ghost them, he was busy in California …

Yes ! It's Trevor rose who was ghosted. H was always a huge supporter then he brought Meg to an event and she was obnoxious. H dumped the charity after that. He can't blame Cali. Honestly don't know why he's entertaining them after it

NewPR just in time for the Thursday visit. I suspect a flood of new names who "innocently" entered the chat armed with talking points!

IMHO, Nottingham is quite clearly a PR reset and I would be surprised if there wasn't a crowd. Aside from the endless advertising (despite HaM's endless shrieks about security), it is a well-known PR trick to hire actors to pad out brand launches and this is the latest brand launch for the HaMs.

IMHO, Brand HaM faces too many headwinds mostly due to HaM's careless destruction of all the goodwill they took for granted. Media/social media will love the clicks but the HaMs aren't earning a large enough living to access the billionaire lifestyle that they want.

If the US had been a success, the HaMs would not currently be squatters at the mercy of billionaire Wace!

The new script talking point seems to be - families fall out, we've all had a squabble or two with parents and siblings, HaM haven't done very much wrong at all, why are you all poking your nose into a family affair and making a big deal of it.

And we have a tag team.

Pretty much all of this is conjecture, and it's all personal/family stuff right? They're not actively harming or demeaning anyone outside of the family politics.

Why are you actively trying this 'It's just a family row, nothing to do with the rest of us, it's all conjecture' wide eyed ingenuousness?

Yep the faux naivete really gets on my nerves & the expectation of us engaging & reaming back through 50 threads full in REAL time!

Nope I have actual homework to set & correct in real life

Just FYI, Angela Levin on Twitter/X today:

"In 2017 I spent time with Prince Harry in Nottingham. With help he was trying to help tough black teenagers not accepted in school, sports or youth clubs. I was there for one day after his engagement with Meghan. It wasn't for her. After his fab wedding (which I was at) the man who had been so grateful to Harry told me Harry didn't come any more as Meghan wasn't interested. Let's see if they are cheered or booed."

Thanks ❤️ unfortunately few people know about the charity been dropped

I think there will be morbid curiosity tomorrow night and they might get a crowd. In my experience, UK are not prone to booing (correct me if I'm wrong) 😆 and HAM spin on the rugby match is, ref was booed. Not him

There's no 'celebrity board'.

The name of the forum is 'The Royal Family'. Harry and Meghan are members of the royal family. So I'm not sure why these discussions should be moved.

Well lots of comments they aren't Royals they left ages ago, take their titles away, they are private citizens I was just thinking then why are they discussed on this board that is about the Royal Family. I am sure an appropriate board could be found other public people are discussed elsewhere.

Just seems to be conflicting views.

The rugby crowd may have set the precedent with the booing one can hope!

Cannot believe all the drivel on the end of the last thread and the beginning of this - nice, personable humanitarian and charitable?

Self-serving conniving entitled whingers more like, using smoke and mirrors. Urgh.

That is a good point. The pound shop royals are getting a lot more interest than the real royals. Tomorrow will be a test.

Williams cricket mall event didnt even make hesdline news. Infact most of the things he does doesn't. Seems a bit of PR disaster if it isn't making headlines particularly as his role is also about bringing more publicity to organisations.

Again.

This forum is called 'The Royal Family'.

Harry and Meghan are members of the Royal Family.

It is therefore entirely correct that they be discussed on this forum.

I am sure an appropriate board could be found other public people are discussed elsewhere.

So there's a more 'appropriate' board to discuss members of the royal family than the dedicated Royal Family board?

Really?

If you don't think this discussion should be here, by all means start your own thread on the 'appropriate board' of your choice.

There is actually something very important that KC can do - he and parliament can remove H from the line of succession and remove the titles from him M and A, L.
KC should do this sooner rather than later but I suspect he will dither and leave it to KW - I suspect KW will also restore HRH to Diana.
ETA - as the Danish queen did to the younger brother and his family relatively recently. She then gave up the throne for the first born son.

Edited

This is way too drastic and would create so much unnecessary drama.

What Charles should do although I think he will leave it to William is amend the rules so that only grandchildren of the monarch in the direct heir line inherit HRH Prince/ss titles. It can’t be retroactively applied but it would be the most sensible going forward.

And any titles bestowed on marriage by the monarch are lifetime gifts only and then return to the Crown.

Charlotte and Louis children can be unburdened by Royal expectations and have the healthier Zara/Peter/Louise route.

If at some point something happened to George and Charlotte became heir then any children would get titles.

By the point William becomes King - if Charles gets another ten years then the Wales kids are 23, 22, 18. In 15 years 28,27,23. They will be starting families of their own.

As soon as George and Charlotte have a couple of kids the Sussexes will be 8/9/10 in the LOS and thankfully the Yorks will be out of the top ten completely.

Archie and Lili are the equivalent of Princess Margaret’s children. I suspect most people couldn’t even put a name to them. In the day, they too had controversial, parents at the heart of society gossip but they chose a much steadier and quieter life than their parents have seem to have thrived that way.

Yes, I agree. These superfans seem to forget that HaM also insulted the whole of the UK with (a) those faked-context scenes they showed in their Netflix documentary, and (b) their many words during both the documentary and the Oprah interview.

It reminds me of Doreen Lawrence’s horrible attempt to paint the London Fire and Rescue Service as a bunch of racists. Deeply unpleasant and upsetting, and completely unnecessary and wrong.

What's the worst thing H&M have done that justifies 50+ threads of vitriol, and has a worse and wider impact than the various humanitarian and charity stuff they've done?

For me some of the worst things they have done are:

lie about Archie not getting a title and security because of his skin colour

accept an award for tackling racism in the RF and allow the accusations of racism to stand for 18 months before claiming they never said it

lie in court (both of them)

accuse a judge of corruption

claim the Archbishop of Canterbury performed an illegal marriage

preside over a charity whose workers spent decades abusing indigenous people

reveal personal information about others for money (eg William’s circumcision, Catherine’s text messages)

overt racism on the part of Harry, including “don’t worry, she’s not black or anything”

take photos with sick children and survivors of a terrorist atrocity, then use them to advertise outfits to earn commission

multiple examples of lying and hypocrisy

Those are the ones that spring to mind. I expect there are others.

NB from your list of charity work - he has eventually left African Parks after years of criticism for doing nothing about the rangers’ abuses, he left Sentebale under a cloud and is now being sued by them for bullying, he did not set up Invictus (it was handed to him), and the donation to CiN, despite claims, was not his money.
