@orthrywreeinvicedifthe I'm not the thread police by any means but there are other threads talking about a constitutional monarchy, where you may find a better discussion. But your choice.

I wouldn't dignify engaging with that poster as a 'discussion.' Those are generally an exchange of opinions and ideas, not the same post repeated with all the monotony of a Salvation Army drum. Plus personal insults.

What a wonderful day for Harry and Meghan! Back in the UK, back doing royal duties and their fans wishing for him to have a high ranking constitutional role!

No one has to wish for anything. It is the law that he would be Regent if George became King tonight. It is just a fact.

MonetsLilac · Today 21:48

Mossyfox · Today 21:45

I think their titles should be removed and more importantly Harry and his heirs should be removed from the line of succession. Same as they did for Edward VIII except he didn't have any heirs and successors. It's the only answer IMHO.

That would absolutely break them. The titles are everything to them. Also their fanbase. Hence all the strange posts, perhaps they fear it will happen?
Neither Meghan nor Harry would cope and I mean that literally.

And implicit in PH having that role is the death of both his father and his brother. Quite remarkably unpleasant, and that's before the uncalled for rudeness.

You didn’t seem to say that to the poster who said that the PoW would become Regent?

Starryfifty · Today 21:49

Today may have been a success in HAM's mind and they celebrating tonight but reality is, it's not what Meg wants. She blatantly dumped these charities (Trevor R confirmed this) as no doubt felt it wasn't glamorous enough. We had "sheepish, sweet Meg" skin on today as she's desperate. It's simple not about supporting her hapless hubby. She's hoping it's a step up in getting some sympathy/ publicity

Today was so unglamorous looking (no offence to any Nottingham residents). Graffiti and no flashing lights.

Autonomouse · Today 21:50

What more is there to be said? She didn't sound as she did when on OW or in the engagement interview. IMO.

Do you mean that her accent has changed slightly? Maybe the intonation and speech pattern has become more British?
I wouldn't be surprised by that really it does happen when you spend a lot of time with someone who has a different accent.

Or do you mean that she didn't sound as confident as she had on OW, as she complained about the RF and all the terrible things she said they had done to make her feel uncomfortable?

I am not his fan. I cannot stand him or his vile wife. Your "you are a fan" response is very far off the mark. I want him stripped of all his statuses. Which is far more than most of the regular posters on these threads, who seem to think looking the other way while he makes a mockery of the Sandringham agreement is just fine, to the extent they will even argue that he should remain on the royal website so as not to upset him. Yet, apparently the appetite will be there to usurp his constitutionally enshrined position overnight should a regency situation arise. And presumably, you think he'll have no legal recourse because he's a shit head.

I suspect you're in the minority on that and it would be very damaging to the monarchy to push through such a measure out of spite, when the likelihood that Harry or his descendants will ever ascend to the throne is zilch. The monarchy survives because it it a cautious and conservative institution. Lashing out just to punish would completely undermine its credibility and stability. At the same time, it's also a very creative and flexible institution if there is a problem that needs to be resolved. In the extremely unlikely situation that Harry may be in a position to become King, I'm sure the monarchy and parliament will find a way to circumvent that.

That's not really related to what I was saying, though. The King's letter was for government departments, etc., but it was also for general consumption and had the effect of putting an end to any shenanigans H&M may have been planning.

The media cover H&M because they provide endless silly stories that the media can constantly regurgitate with very little effort. They are a kind of Temu royalty. The public knows the difference between the work of the royal family and the daft younger son. I suspect that in reality few care much about Harry. No one was bothered that he had left the UK and was living in California. Their trip to Nottingham today shows no one is really interested in them and they lack star power.

The Royal family, like the public, know that HaM are shameless. The letter was unlikely ever to have put a stop to HAM's determination to do just as they please, as we have seen today. If the letter's purpose was to stop them in their tracks, it has failed. I see it as a sort of insurance policy, to give the institution a lever to intervene with charities and public sector organisations if HaM take things too far, and with HaM themselves.

Although visits like today's risk the monarchy looking weak, they also make HaM look foolish. HaM will see today as a success though, because they brought out a crowd of sorts and got lots of press coverage.

On what legal basis?

They certainly would. I would go as far as to say that contingency planning has already happened.

It's a success for them because they're treated royally.
That's everything to them. The status, the crowds.

I don't think the letter was about influencing HAM's behaviour. Its purpose was to publicise the fact that they do not represent the King and anything they do is in their capacity as private citizens.

I doubt HAM think a few dozen people is a success.

I was replying to a question posed on this thread about who would become Regent if George became King. Someone incorrectly stated it would be the PoW. I did not realise that factual information would receive such a hostile reaction.

Lady Muck optics today, I thought. Gracious Meghan in her voluminous Joseph coat against a backdrop of graffitied brick walls pressing the flesh with a two-deep audience restrained by green plastic barriers.

Weren't posters saying that about Harry and Meghan returning to the UK to live a couple of months ago?

It's pretty clear these threads are not here for open opinion or a variety of opinions or for non- regular posters. The poster to whom you replied is a regular, and therefore allowed to say something without challenge, or accusation of derailment, or accusation of wishing death on the Wales family, or accusation of being a Sussex fan for quoting the law.

Why do they need to get a move on? Are Charles and William both at risk of dying in the next four years and eight months?

I'm not sure something needs to be changed and disruption created just for extreme hypotheticals. It is extremely unlikely that both Charles and William will both die in the next few years. What do you think the law should be changed to? Changing the law just to exclude specific individuals causes strife. Since the situation is extremely unlikely to arise, it's ok to leave things as they are. If, for some reason, William became terminally ill or dies before Charles, then there will likely be some amendment to the 1937 law and a new law specifically for George's situation.

Because George is 18 in five years’ time. I agree it is unlikely to happen.
