That is not the law. The law, as it stands, is that Harry would be Regent if George becomes King before he is 18. Regardless of what anyone thinks, the moment George becomes King, Harry becomes Regent.

You don't have to keep repeating yourself.

MonetsLilac · Today 21:17

Wedgewood · Today 21:16

That's how I understand it. Harry remains a councillor of state. Catherine will become a councillor of state if she becomes Queen, but if William died before he became king and before Catherine became the monarch's spouse, she could not be a councillor of state. The next in the line of succession of full age under the Regency Act would be Harry, followed by AMW.

I really don't know how many times this needs to be explained.
Those two men would never be Regent.
Can you see this government allowing it!

It's getting really silly now. Wishful thinking?

Emergency legislation after George became the King? You think they’d pass emergency legislation for the Regent to sign which passed over the same said Regent?

You do know that Edward VIII had to sign his own Act of Abdication, don't you?

And yet they have not changed it.

They did change it when necessary.

When the late Queen acceded, they passed the Regency Act 1953
Regency Act 1953
This provided for the Duke of Edinburgh to be Regent for Charles if necessary, and for Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother to be COunsellor of State during her lifetime.

When Charles acceded, William was already of age so there was no need for any regent.
A Counsellors of State Act was passed making the Princess Royal and Duke of Edinburgh Counsellors of State for their lifetime.

"It's the fact they make their living out of selling stories about the Royal Family"

Is this true?

I thought he was a charity exec and podcast/media producer, and she was a presenter/producer seller of...whatever waitrosey home/self-care tat she sells.

Do they really 'make their living' out of selling stories about the Royal Family?

Yes, of course they do! Would any company or charity be interested in them were it not for him being a Royal?

@bluegreygreen

“King Charles hasn't put a stop to this.
What do you think the King should do?”

I know I sound like a broken record but he should remove their titles and definitely remove them from the Royal website .

They are still on the website because they were once working royals, in the same way Princess Alexandra is still there. They are still on the website to reflect the Sandringham Agreement, i.e. they weren't thrown out but stepped back. Their presence on the website is tiny and meaningless.

Not sure what such a major and harsh move as removing their titles would be or what justification could be put forward for it, but it would only increase sympathy for them.

Neither of these moves would stop them from doing walkabouts, pretending to be humanitarians or trying to sell jam.

This government? Yes. How to bring about a republic in one fell swoop. Put Harry and Andy in charge.

Harry would never be Regent. It's completely relevant.
Perhaps you're not from the UK; it's a Constitutional Monarchy. Parliament is Sovereign, they decide.

I don’t think you understand.

The Regency Act dictates that Harry will be Regent if George becomes King before he is 18. That is an Act which was passed by the very same Parliament to which you refer. That is the law. This is what will automatically happen as it stands.

Parliament can, of course, change the law (ie. their previous Acts), but, in this case, they have not. If George becomes King tomorrow, Harry will immediately become Regent. By law made by Parliament.

Parliament being sovereign means that Parliament has the power to make, amend or repeal any law it makes. It does not mean that Parliament gets up every morning and decides what the laws are that day from scratch.

You simply do not understand, and I really hope you aren’t embarrassing yourself in real life by trying to patronise people whilst being so incorrect in what you are saying.

Indeed. And that remains the case if William is King, unless there is a change in legislation.

Oh dear me. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm not embarrassed by my detailed knowledge of the UK Constitutional History!
However desperate his fans are - sadly for them, Harry won't be Regent.
Perhaps you could petition Burnham! 😂

I would be amazed if it hasn't been, seeing as the RF prepares for the monarch's death and funeral practically from the moment the crown lands on his or her head.

I do wonder what all this insistence on 'Harry WILL be regent' is about, though.

As the law stands, he will. It’s not hard. If they want to change it, they need to get a move on. They obviously do not want it changed, because if they did it would have been by now.

orthrywreeinvicedifthe · Today 21:28

MonetsLilac · Today 21:16

It's most peculiar. I doubt even Harry would consider himself, it's far too much like hard work!
Apart from his behaviour and attitude over the years. Perhaps there's a group pushing for it? They won't get far.

Nobody has to push for it. It is quite literally the law.

It is Parliament’s own Act of Parliament that makes it the law that Harry would be Regent.

And it was his choice to abdicate in order to marry Wallace Simpson. He did not have to make that choice.

Yes, but they have not changed it in this case. Maybe they will in the future, and maybe they won’t. But if William and Charles were hit by a bus tomorrow then the Regent would be Harry. That’s all there is to it.

I did think of repeating that the law hasn't been changed because ATM there's no need so why bother, but I think that might be a waste of time. The stylus appears to be stuck in one groove.

It also strikes me as deeply distasteful to speculate on PW's early death.
