I think that may be a feature of reactive depression. I was beaten up (not badly, but still…) on a metro train going through St Denis (rough neighborhood). It was totally unprovoked and it took a while for anyone to dare to intervene. For two to three weeks after I was very, very down on the world and had no interest in anything. So I imagine that was reactive depression. Felt like depression to me, it was a result of the shocking violence, and it had a definite beginning and end.

Sympathy mit sounds awful…I’m just not seeing how you suffering such an awful situation equates to Harry moving from one expensive mansion to another expensive mansion!
you suffered 💐

I don’t think they’re averse to the public knowing what their children’s faces look like, they’ve done Christmas cards and put bits and pieces of their faces out there. It’s not a securidee issue for them. I think it’s the hypocrisy issue, after going on about children being on social media. They’ve skewered themselves completely because they need SM and print media like they need air to breathe, and they need a happy family narrative to make any money talking about the only thing they know anything about (themselves in all their various guises) and yet they’ve estopped themselves from putting their kids out there. It’s just half of their picture for now.

I think once the children are old enough to behave nicely, sit properly, not goof around, listen to instructions etc (if my DC are anything to go by, it’ll be a while yet!), they’ll start being seen out and about with their parents in circumstances HAM can’t control (eg at a rugby match, at a charidee gig, at Invictus etc). Until then I think they’ll continue as they are and one day, right before a public appearance, they’ll release half a dozen full face heavily curated pictures showing them - meaning HAM - in the best, uber-parent light. For now, Harry is going to keep chasing a pseudo royal life if only as the media portrays it, and Meghan is going to continue working at giving off the appearance of being a carefree cali mom living her best life, doing rich cali mom things, in the Cotswolds. She’s following an American rich housewife playbook to the letter, unsurprisingly zero originality or novelty and she’s pretending she doesn’t care.

”Or closer to home - the women who post here at Mumsnet and speak of their experiences with depression, are they being thoughtless/not empathetic if they speak of having to take a smaller dose of medication than someone else or their depression lasted a year less than than another posters?”

Everyone’s experience with mental health is valid and of course they have a right to discuss it.

There is a difference in context, though. Harry is describing his experience to build his credibility and make himself relatable. It falls flat for me and not because he’s Harry, but because it was so brief, not caused by trauma and it’s really not the same as someone experiencing chronic depression. My foot hurt recently for a few weeks. I wouldn’t use that fact in discussion with someone facing an amputation.

Something like visiting Father Christmas at Soho Farmhouse or Dayeslford?
Family trip to London & visiting Fr Christmas at Harrods, wholesome family Christmas photos they hope would upstage the RF..

Absolutely. There was absolutely no way they didn't know how to get help. Harry certainly did, and it's shocking that his supporters excuse this.

So true!

Rhaidimiddim · Yesterday 17:31

PleasantGreenPorcupine · Yesterday 15:49

I can't believe people are actually excusing Harry.
Is he some sort of saint?.

Sussex Squad logic.

The RF should have helped Meghan - bad, bad RF!
Catherine should have helped Meghan - bad, bad Catherine!
HR should have helped Meghan - bad, bad HR!

Harry should have helped Meghan? Excuses, excuses, excuses...

No ! , what’s happened autumn? , I’ve heard of her , makes YouTube videos critiquing the Sussex’s?

It’s so odd, I’m going to try to type a (brief) transcript of what she actually said in a while when I have time. Basically she’s insulted a lot of other YouTube ‘content creators’, saying they are not newsroom journalists and that their sources might be made up.

Fair enough, but I believe the tone was patronising and some YouTubers point out that that’s all Schofield herself is (a ‘content creator’ minus journalist accreditation) and that her own work is based on image and style not substance.

At the centre is something to do with the Sun, Matt Wilkinson, those pub photos and the Sussex PR. Schofield seems to be arguing the photos weren’t set up by Meg and ‘sometimes a pap photo is just a pap photo’. Has Kinsey Schofield been added to the Sussex WhatsApp group chat?! Oooh. The drama Grin

Never Harrods! And nothing that might accidentally promote something that they won’t get paid for. No, Meghan never gives anything away for free.

It’ll be a beige/cream study in luxury, insouciant living (but will miss the mark slightly because they always do) which people will say looks remarkably like the insta reels Kate put out last year of the family frolicking in the countryside. Heavily photoshopped/filtered, Harry with a full head of hair and Meghan with healthy skin, $1m of clothing for Meghan and the children and Harry in his usual casual togs. They’ll be wholesome, to do with the outdoors (or whatever else Meghan’s then-business is associated with), and will show HAM to be adored and loved by the children. Meghan will be front and center, Harry and the DC secondary (like the Time Magazine hairdresser cover). Not a shred of authenticity to it. It will make sense to the sort of people who lap up the Real Housewives, and look derisory to the RF’s staunchest supporters.

I’m guessing a reveal the moment of Catherine’s carol service, as apart from money, Meghan’s great motivator is spite

Except that the concert happens in early Dec, but is then broadcast later. So the reveal could only spitespoil one of the two.

God yes forgot Harry's would be out of bounds😅 unless they were conveniently papped by the highest bidder?

I bet they are saving the photos of the kids faces for a Big Reveal, probably be something like the morning of Williams Coronation or something big like that to get the attention.

I very much hope that by the time W's coronation rolls around, the hamlets are old enough to tell them to sod off with their cameras.

I was just thinking that as KC has centenarians and near centenarians on both sides in his immediate ancestry, those children could be grown ups by the time William's coronation comes around.

Ohhh ! I don’t know if it’s connected but……you know that Sussex documentary that was on Apple? , Disney? Recently? , well according to Neil Sean , he was approached but refused to take part because apparently it was very pro Sussex and he said they have to sign and then their comments can be edited into something different….anyway that Kinsey Schofield was on that program with a lot of pro Sussex commentators…..I didn’t watch it but I wonder if she has been influenced??? ( or not ) very odd!

you suffered 💐

It was more than moving from one mansion to another and that comment is a perfect example of people twisting themself into all sorts of shape rather than acknowledge that even Harry could have been unwell all things considered.

I call them the gruesome twosome for a reason but we do each and every person who’s ever experienced a mental health problem a great disservice if we minimise it because of who they are/amount of money they may have in the bank/the size of house the live in/and the fact they are awful people. Mental health struggles can affect anyone, no one is immune to them.

I mean, isn’t that the ENTIRE basis for the WhatsApp group and the relationship with People magazine and whichever other outlets they give direct access to? It’s what the RF do: yes you can print stuff about us and our children but we will tell you what to print. The RF manage this very successfully, as ever HAM are the Temu version (although tbf they’ve only been at it a few years with no vast infrastructure or, ya know, the nation’s best interests behind them). Literally none of this is “news” for any of the parties involved, it’s just money and PR (which is money).

I hear you and agree. We should not minimise anyone’s hardships because of their other privileges. And trust me, I know whereof I speak.

With all due respect, I often agree with you on everything but not in this instance, I’m afraid that if someone tells lies repeatedly and changes their story constantly then no , the consequences are that people won’t believe what they say , particularly as this new bid for sympathy and jump on the mental health wagon is completely different than his own words and discription of what happened at the time in his own book “spare “ , which narrative is true? , which is a lie?
how are people supposed to know which story is the real one?
I don’t talk about it on here because it’s personal but don’t for a minute think I have no experience with mental health issues, depression and postpartum depression, because I do, I have great empathy for those who suffer from it, however I don’t extend that to people who use it as a weapon or shield for bad behaviour…..more than that I simply do not believe him , he is a liar .

I think there's a bit of scepticism about Harry's depression claims because it's not quite clear what he means. In the grief Masterclass, he said
"Being in Canada, away from the stressful environment where presumably my body was just pumped full of adrenaline, within two or three days, I experienced this adrenaline crash, something that I’d never experienced before," he said, according to media reports.
"It was as if I needed stress in order to get the adrenaline to make my brain function because I became useless around the house.
"I actually slipped into depression for about two weeks and I felt like I couldn't function without adrenaline."
