I do not disbelieve him, nor believe him.

But stating that you’ve experienced two weeks of episodic depression is not showing empathy or understanding to others.

It’s a bit like the handsome wealthy white straight married male who that says they know what it’s like to be discriminated against because their brother is gay. (Real life example!)

But stating that you’ve experienced two weeks of episodic depression is not showing empathy or understanding to others

Because it’s Harry who has said he was depressed people will twist themselves into all sorts of shape in order to avoid acknowledging that he could have been unwell with a condition that’s recognised by professionals. The goal posts will continually move just they have in your post - oh well even if he was unwell he had no right saying so because it means he wasn’t thinking of others or being empathetic by doing so. Never mind that by him saying what he’d experienced other people might have related to it and though - ah ok, so I wasn’t imagining I was depressed.

Dismissing reactive depression or being critical of those who had it/spoke about having it is rather like suggesting that someone who didn’t lose their hair during chemotherapy hasn’t suffered as much as someone who did.

Or closer to home - the women who post here at Mumsnet and speak of their experiences with depression, are they being thoughtless/not empathetic if they speak of having to take a smaller dose of medication than someone else or their depression lasted a year less than than another posters?

Can people only speak of their depression if they are matched with a depression buddy whose symptoms and experiences match theirs in order not to come across as being thoughtless/not empathetic in comparison?

Why don't you blame Harry at all, @Bloomandbust.?

JSMill · Yesterday 16:18

PleasantGreenPorcupine · Yesterday 16:06

Well Sophie is fortunate indeed that Edward got help immediately when she had a suspected ectopic pregnancy. Funny how that didn't create a problem and was kept confidential until they chose to share it.

That’s a funny comparison but I actually don’t think Edward was in the country when that happened.

TheAutumnCrow · Yesterday 16:19

Perhaps we need to focus on Harry’s credibility within the context of Sussex PR, if possible.

HoldMyWine · Yesterday 16:22

I think they have backed themselves into a corner with regards to revealing their children’s faces. No matter what occasion they choose there will never be a right one.

MrsLeonFarrell · Yesterday 16:22

We are actual evidence of how the Royal family react when royals are facing serious mental health struggles. They encourage them to seek help, as was the case even way back in the 60s (or possibly 70s) when the Duchess of Kent was an inpatient in a mental health facility. There is no basis for any claim that the institution stopped Meghan getting help out of embarrassment or protocol.

He was, I think you're referring to the placental abruption she had which meant she gave birth to Louise prematurely.

I think the big reveal will be this years Christmas card, I can't remember where I read it but the logic made sense!

I don’t, they won’t get paid for that - I’d have thought a Hello! spread more likely.

Yes that's what I'm thinking. Something they can make money from

Edited

I truly don’t think I’ve moved the goal posts at all.

I never said he was not unwell. I would not say that about anyone, ever.

I am suggesting that he’s minimising the experience of others by implying his two weeks of feeling unwell is on par from chronic sufferers of depression and gives him standing to counsel others.

I’m guessing a reveal the moment of Catherine’s carol service, as apart from money, Meghan’s great motivator is spite

There will definitely be things published designed to take the spotlight away from all the lovely RF events in the run up to Christmas..
I wonder was Meghans post of A&L scooting designed to overshadow C&L being snapped on the tube? Which was published first?

Aprilfountain · Yesterday 16:47

She'll never show their kids' faces for free, it's the only money-spinner they've got left.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 16:54

smilesy · Yesterday 13:18

Hmmm. I’m being careful here because discussions concerning mental health are always tricky, but with my cynical head on (which I seem to have to wear quite a lot wrt the Sussexes), I wouldn’t put it past them to have concocted the whole thing to try and make the RF look bad. The fact that Diana apparently threw herself downstairs when pregnant makes me think there could have been some Diana cos play afoot. The fact that Meghan seems to have recovered from this episode with no help makes me further suspicious. Harry insisting that “the show had to go on” and they had to go out that night and also that it would look “bad” for the RF if he asked for help seems fishy when we know he, Catherine and William were involved in Heads Together. Add to this the fact that Meghan had a maternity package that gave access to mental health help and that any pregnant woman is constantly asked how she is feeling, and that Harry had easy access to therapists, my cynicism is growing. And now we hear that Harry was depressed “for two weeks”🤔. I am afraid I am of the opinion that they use poor mental health as a form of victimhood. That is not to say that I don’t think it possible they could have suffered from poor mental health at any time, I
just don’t think it was as and when they tell us it was

Very much with you on all of this, smilesy, and especially agree that commenting on the MH of others can be tricky territory - as can issues with racism, pregnancy loss and family breakdown just to give a few examples

So it is quite noticeable that many of the horrors H&M tell us they've experienced focus on exactly those things where many are naturally dubious about raising questions

Who’ll pay for photos? Even if Hello or somewhere paid for a photoshoot, it’ll only be once 🤷🏻‍♀️

Don’t forget ‘Lilibet’s Closet’, registered as soon as she was born pretty much. That’ll be exploited before long.

With the kids in the UK now & going to school, hopefully out & about enjoying their childhood is the demand (& price) lower now that they have some visibility albeit a little Codswolds bubble?
If they were still living in the US the reveal gain would be greater.

I wonder were they initially hoping for a RF Christmas reveal? The church walk?

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · Yesterday 17:02

I think the day of large money reveals are gone. I can’t imagine Hello is paying much these days.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 17:04

Perhaps it's wise to agree with someone when they are found to be telling the truth, and disagree with them when they aren't.
It's not good to just blindly believe people, like Harry and Meghan, or Piers Morgan.

Beautifully put, PleasantGreenPorcupine

The only thing I'd add is that it's not always immediately obvious whether someone's telling the truth or not, so it can be wise to be cautious - and multiply that by 100 when it concerns those who are known to have already lied repeatedly

Exactly

Well, it’s all kicking off on the YouTubes and X over Kinsey Schofield. Anyone else seen it?

MitohMit · Yesterday 17:10

KilkennyCats · Yesterday 14:08

How do you explain him making a full recovery, seemingly without outside help, within two weeks?

I think that may be a feature of reactive depression. I was beaten up (not badly, but still…) on a metro train going through St Denis (rough neighborhood). It was totally unprovoked and it took a while for anyone to dare to intervene. For two to three weeks after I was very, very down on the world and had no interest in anything. So I imagine that was reactive depression. Felt like depression to me, it was a result of the shocking violence, and it had a definite beginning and end.
