I know academics often get fed up of working so hard for (relatively) such little money, and frequently try to bolster the coffers through other means (a few of us have, eg, a Substack), but there’s a line … and I’d like to think that she knows where it is. Or maybe she’s really her head turned in more ways than one; which would be a shame.

Incidentally I have seen it reported that Swan Song is a bestseller etc, maybe it is in USA or wherever. But I've been in two different Waterstones a couple of times and seen no evidence of interest, no buyers, no one leafing through it.
The bookshop in Tetbury had just two copies on display on a table with other new releases.

I can believe bookshops and libraries have ordered it, but whether that translates into sales by actual members of the public who don’t return it for a refund is another matter. I believe the reviews are generally pretty poor? Ouch.

*Yes you can return shit books for a full refund. Spencer’s for example, is demonstrably inaccurate, à la Piers Morgan.

I bet CS is gutted the House of Windsor is still standing, I’m sure HAM hot footed it over here because they thought there would be a constitutional crisis because of this book, it may be a “best seller” but personally I don’t think it’s damaged the monarchy at all apart from a 5 minute blip, unfortunately for CS he jumped the shark saying KC was giddy like a lottery winner when Diana died, he lost any credibility at that point, wonder what HAM and CS will make up for the supposed Diana film, a crime watch style reconstruction of Charles dancing on Diana’s grave?

Oh no. I think it was a good thing to have done. It was definitely “recollections may vary” mark 2 and I think it showed that the King is human and that personal attacks were uncalled for in these circumstances. The King didn’t get involved in a tit for tat exchange, he just expressed his difference of opinion. The fact that Spencer then shot himself in the foot, the leg and most of his other extremities with the number of inaccuracies in the book made the statement entirely justified imo

Agree that’s their default reactive setting of sharp elbows - they hijack every event to put themselves front and centre - often quite literally.

However once they are front and centre they have nothing to say or contribute. Also the penny hasn’t dropped that no asked and no one cares.
