She trusted Doria up to a point. According to Tom Bower:
The Middletons invited Doria to stay with them before the wedding but this was refused. There may have been protocol reasons for it though.
The Queen was really worried about M’s lack of family at the wedding and urged her to get on a plane and sort things out with her estranged father and others. The RF also offered for various people to sit with Doria in St G’s Chapel but Meghan refused this too, insisting that D sat alone.
Knowing what we now know about M, I suspect this was also calculated to make it seem cruel of the RF to “make” poor Doria sit alone, but that’s just speculation.
Before any of the trouble was publicly known, I remember feeling surprised at D’s demeanour on leaving the chapel. I could see Charles trying to engage her, but she didn’t look at him or respond much. I have a strong impression of this because, after both his lovely gestures of escorting M and then taking D so warmly by the hand, it did seem very cold of her. Now I suspect she had been instructed by M not to get drawn into conversations with the royals.
M is just so utterly controlling, it’s really obvious now.
