Prince Harry has reportedly told Meghan to 'get a job'
… as finances are allegedly dwindling for the pair, a royal insider told New Idea: "Harry wants Meghan to work."

Re: the above - that's rich coming from lazy arse Harry! Exactly how much money is HE bringing in right now? Does he get paid for turning up to charity events?

What's really interesting though is if this is true it means As Ever isn't making any money, because if it was, surely Harry wouldn't mind Meghan taking it easy for a bit?

There was an article in one of the papers yesterday saying that he's being made welcome by the 'Turnip Toffs' of Norfolk and I think there was one a couple of weeks ago saying he's got a new girlfriend. Far from being ostracised, the posh folks of Norfolk are rallying round and making sure he isn't. He really is insufferable and his friends are ensuring he stays that way.

Hmmm - this is interesting as AMW has always despised the "Turnip Toffs" and it's one of the reasons he resisted being sent to the Sandringham estate.

I wonder if he's "really" being made "welcome" or if it more that KC is sending round some of his local mates to keep and eye on AMW.

IIRC QEII's retired Lord Chamberlain is one of the big Norfolk landowners.

I didn't have time to go into the full details of James' pre-Wessex title and I'm not sure about all of Edward's current titles but Edward is no longer formally referred to as the Earl of Wessex but the Duke of Edinburgh, so there are no two individuals who are concurrently referred to as the Earl of Wessex, but my overall point still stands - James is only reffered to with these titles because he is not referred to as Prince. Archie is Prince Archie (even if he did have to wait a bit for that). James and Archie are both the sons of a younger son of the Sovereign, so both have exactly the same status.

James and Archie are a generation removed though - which is important.

James was born the grandson of a monarch (James is the same generation as Harry) and automatically entitled to be Prince according to the letters patent. His parents decided against and chose to give him a courtesy title from Edward's subsidiary titles - Viscount Severn - which is a subsidiary title to the Wessex Earldom.

Archie was born the great-grandson of QEII and there are no automatic Prince titles for the great grandchildren. HAM could have chosen a subsidiary title to use as Archie's courtesy title - Dumbarton/Kilkeel. But chose not to and announced him as Master Archie Mountbatten Windsor.

BunnyBunbunbun · 05/10/2026 09:47

So, Harry and Meghan never themselves said that they did not want their children to have titles.

William has several subsidiary titles that are not use by George or Louis.

I clearly remember Harry, in an interview after Archie's birth sharply replying to a question from a reporter "No, he's not being brought up like that" and stating Archie wouldn't have a title. I remember thinking "Good on them, going the Phillips way".
You could try searching YouTube for interviews around that time but I'm not going to do it for you.

Returning here could save them $2-3 million per year if it prompts RAVEC to reinstate their taxpayer-funded security!

Yes, but as I said, it seems unlikely that that's going to happen.

Rumours from the Cotswolds are that HAM aren't house-hunting atm, either to rent or buy, so they're living for free in Ian Wace's guesthouse and not spending anything on housing.

"Rumours" from where though?

Ian Wace is not going to allow a family of 4 whom he barely knows to live long term on his property for free.

If they really wanted to save money, an obvious choice would be to move into a more modest property in California which would also cost a lot less to secure. Coming back to England seems rather a drastic move, especially as it's not at all clear how it's going to cut costs for them.

I think it's a gamble and that's why they're doing it as cheaply as possible. Come over here, enrol the kids in school, stay for free in someone's guesthouse, create manufactured drama to try and make their case for security and then wait and hope for the best.

Last week a former royal protection officer was on TV saying that he thought they should have their police security reinstated, so there are clearly people out there who support their POV. And who knows? Their gamble might pay off. None of us know what RAVEC are going to decide. But in the meantime, they aren't spending any more money here than they have to, and if things aren't resolved in their favour they can decide whether to stay or go having lost nothing.

I'm not the one trying to prove that Harry and Meghan said they didn't want their kids to ever have titles, so the onus isn't really on me to provide the evidence for something I don't believe.

It's not a "POV". Anyone can make any claim about who needs security. That's not the point. There's an official and highly effective process to determine this. Not Dave who worked for a security firm 15 years ago.

I know. But neither you nor I knows what RAVEC will decide. They are apparently doing a full review of the risks to HAM and will make their decision according to those risks. And I'm sure Harry will be quick to flaunt his armed policemen if he gets it, with a smug look on his face. And if he doesn't, well last time he did a ranting interview claiming it was 'an old-fashioned establishment stitch-up'.

I agree that it's a gamble, but as I said above, I don't believe Ian Wace is letting them shack up on his property long term. Also, living off other people is pretty precarious and a bit sad, especially when you're a Prince of the realm and you've got two young children.

Last week a former royal protection officer was on TV saying that he thought they should have their police security reinstated, so there are clearly people out there who support their POV

It doesn't matter what former ROP's have to say. And it's not about a 'POV' either. It's about sophisticated security assessments.

None of us know what RAVEC are going to decide.

Given that the Sussexes have been here for 5 weeks now, and clearly don't have official protection, I think we have a pretty good idea what RAVEC have decided.

In any case, even if RAVEC do decide they need some protection, that will be conditioned on the current threat environment and can be removed as soon as the threat is considered to have reduced. So it's a pretty daft basis for uprooting your entire family. Far better to accept that you're not that important and downside to a more modest home.

Neither do I, but I suspect they're hoping to get a decision before Christmas and will make a decision about what to do and where to live based on that.

This ⬆️

But it compare apples 🍏 and pears 🍐

Some people seem to be confusing 2 issues

James and Archie are not the same generation - James is the same level as Harry - a grandson of the monarch. People confuse this because Edward is 16 years younger than Charles. There are no provisions for titles for great grandchildren. Beatrice and Eugenie's children have no titles either.

But since 2022 (but not at birth) Archie and Lilibet became eligible and HAM were eager to claim them

True, because he's greedy, entitled and paranoid.

But again, as I said above, any 'decision' RAVEC make is only relevant to the current threat environment. So even if RAVEC say 'On the basis of our ongoing monitoring of the Sussexes' security needs, we have decided to provide appropriate protection due to perceived threats' that protection will be removed as soon as those threats are no longer perceived.

Close personal protection is an extremely expensive and resource intensive operation. Harry is not among those individuals whose status entitle them to permanent protection, so any security offered will be reduced as soon as the threat level is.

The sooner the Sussexes accept that they don't actually need high level security, the better for all concerned.

StartupRepair · 05/10/2026 10:59

All this talk of who is 'working' and who is going out to lunch, there is no sense of either of them being focused on their small children who have had considerable upheaval for no apparent benefit.

I don't believe he is paranoid. It's purely for status. What on earth is H at risk of? He's just not important

I agree, but Harry is never going to accept this. He had close personal security his whole life up until 2020. He believes he is being punished for leaving the RF and nothing and no-one is going to convince him otherwise.

Well, some of his words and behaviour do indicate paranoia, but I don't know for sure of course.

Has there ever been a genuine threat against HAM?

Starryfifty · 05/10/2026 11:07

Has there ever been a genuine threat against HAM?

I don't know, because these things are not always publicised and when they are, it can be a very general threat. I doubt they need taxpayer funded security on a day to day basis. Unfortunately, they do choose to share a lot about their lives and their location, so they're creating a lot of issues themselves.

bluegreygreen · 05/10/2026 11:16

There was at one point a threat, because at least one person was prosecuted, found guilty and jailed.

Only RAVEC knows what the full current threat is. Harry's security team will have some information given to them by RAVEC.

Starryfifty · 05/10/2026 11:16

Why did H have armed security? Anne, Edward never did. They are also children of monarch. Why was H the exception?

One of the key red flags in abusive relationships is the speed at which they develop.

That Spencer bloke often seems to be pretty quick off the mark.

He married his first wife six weeks after he met her!

What's your take then @BunnyBunbunbun on why Omid Scobie, who has clearly fulfilled the role of publicising the Sussexes' views on their behalf for years, made that statement about their non use of a title for Archie being 'all part of giving him as normal a life as possible'?
