Such abuse back then!

My dad sent me to bed with no tea because I upset a gallon of creosote over the newly concreted garage floor. What he should have done was praise my curiosity and interest in blokey things.

So unfair Ida! 😡

If Charles took the trust option, I think the Edinburghs would be best placed to administer it. Proper family but not so close as William and without the sibling issues. Sophie has the measure of Meghan too. And they are a step younger than Charles - Anne is only two years younger.

Great suggestion!

I'm not sure about Edward, but I have a feeling that Sophie would be very capable of a lowered brow and a cat's bum mouth and a "You what how much for what, now?" followed by a stern "No, that is not happening".

How it must have stung to realise that while there may have been an element of “shock”, literally no one actually cared.

Do they realise no-one cares though?

meercat23 · 04/10/2026 16:15

I have a feeling that it is beginning to dawn on them now, hence the staged events. If they don't see it now they never will.

I too have suffered greatly. My DB had a bigger bedroom and also had a new bicycle as he could cycle to school whereas I could catch a bus

Me too!
My sister had all the extended family hand-me-downs one had sooner than I did!
Woe is me.

At 66 years old I now realise that the reason I'm only 5ft 1 is that I was crammed into the box bedroom.
Older brother and younger brother who shared were 4 inches and 2 inches taller than me but their room was big.
When older brother moved out younger brother got a TV in his room.

I definitely got the short end of the stick! (Also mid 60s and also crammed into the box room).

My brothers, who got a huge room EACH - we 6ft 1 and 6ft 2, whereas I am a whole 12 inches shorter at 5ft 1!

Even my mum who grew up in wartime Britain was 5ft 5½!

Yeah, fair question…

You only have to look at Sophie's expressions when she got the job of riding with MM and standing next to her on the balcony at Remembrance Sunday to get that she isn't a fan, to put it mildly.

Yeah, fair question…

They probably equate coverage volume (and there's been plenty of it) with positive regard.

It was obvious at the 2020 Commonwealth Service as well!

  1. I'm nearly 4 inches shorter than my older sister. I'm now going to channel that into feeling hard done by for our entire lives.

I'm shorter than my younger sister! How unfair is that!

I'm the oldest of four and the other three are all taller than me!

I've had such a hard life ...

Thoughts and prayers to you both!
my brother got an Evel Knievel and a scaletrix for Christmas!!! , I got a doll that wet herself! 😭 , the mental anguish means I only grew to 5ft 2! He is almost 6ft!!!!

I never had a doll that wet herself and I didn't want one because I didn't like dolls. I had one, with a hollow it, and used to delight in squashing its face. It was a shame because it was a gift from my granny, who had hand-sewn and knitted a seasonal wardrobe for it.

The boys' toys were so much more appealing, weren't they? Noisy and moving, boys striding alongside them. We girls were kept quiet in corners with houses, knitting needles and fake babies, already in training for our future lives.

Thankfully that won’t matter to Meghan as she said to Oprah

To underscore that Archie's title in itself wasn't the key issue, Meghan went on to explain that her own royal title didn't define her, saying "the most important title I’ll ever have is mom."
“All the grandeur surrounding this stuff is an attachment I don’t personally have.” She continued: “I’ve been a waitress, an actress, a princess, a Duchess—I’ve always still just been Meghan, right? I’ve been clear on who I am, independent of all that stuff, and the most important title I’ll ever have is mom. I know that.”

I am not sure when she was a princess?
Except in her head.

I hate dolls too! , in fact I find the baby doll ones frightening!
but yes unfortunately that was life then and my parents were not particularly sexist at all! , it was the unspoken rule 🤷‍♀️
when I got older it was less unfair luckily, however my brother always had more freedom.

Was then when they clambered over chairs to get out ahead of E and S ?
Having earlier thrown a strop because they weren’t included in the procession.
And M didn’t follow the colour code . As ever.

That was hilarious! Edward greeted them and actually chatted, but I wanted to applaud Sophie's visible disdain!

AlexandraCarrington · 04/10/2026 16:45

All my friends used to come round to play with my brother's Scalextric and electric train set.

I had dolls, but I used to play schools with them, not mummies and daddies. I sat them all in front of our little blackboard and easel and took the register. (And yes I did end up working in education.)

I had a bunny in removable clothes ( Belinda bunny ) , I inadvertently dressed her up like a street walker including fake candy cigarette! ( no idea why, don’t ask!)
luckily I didn’t grow up into that profession!

Except in her head.

Never mind was. She is a princess. As a feminist, sister and global humanitarian, she revels in the proud title of Princess Henry.

Princess Henry of England. Please don't forget the 'of England'. It's VERY important. And, if you can fit the word 'Royal' in there as well that would be even better . . . .

Yes, but I don't think H knows that . . . (not sure what he learnt during his history classes)

England. Of course. The country whose capital was at the centre of the world's greatest ever empire. So apt for a global humanitarian and woman of mixed race.

He didn't! Nor did he pay any attention to anything royal for his entire life!
