Even I’ve been to that lovely pub, when I was staying near there, a couple of years ago with family. Is that my 3 degrees of separation from the Sussexes? 😁

cheezncrackers · 04/10/2026 10:11

I also think it emphasises that the Sussexes are just not that important.

Ain't that the truth? In their heads they and their DC are of the same importance to the nation and its future as W&C and their DC. But they're not. They lived in the US for six years and it made not one jot of difference. Most people really don't care where they live or where their DC go to school, because it's utterly inconsequential. They don't perform public duties, they live for themselves, do as they please, and that's fine. But they can't have it both ways.

In their heads they're on a par with W&K and probably still have the fantasy of sharing privileges and income.

the Economist rowing in

Far more memorable have been the reviews, which have been woeful. “Spare”, Prince Harry’s tell-all book, was widely panned. “Polo”, his Netflix series, was ridiculed. “With Love, Meghan”, her lifestyle show, has a score of 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, a reviews aggregator.

On YouGov, a sort of British reviews aggregator, Meghan now has a popularity rating of 18%, far behind William (71%), Kate (65%) and even Camilla the “villain” (35%).

Like other ill-fated royals (Marie Antoinette also liked a farm), Meghan has branched out into agriculture and, like other stars, merchandising. She has a lifestyle brand called “As Ever” that promises to “bring surprise and delight to your every day”. It will certainly bring surprise to whoever pays your grocery bill, as its raspberry spread costs $12 a jar. More surprising yet is its “Sage Honey” ($32). Best of all is the “Raspberry Spread Trio”, which offers three jars of that $12 item for $42, thus bringing surprise not merely to bill-payers but to those versed in the usual principles of economies of scale.

So behind. Life is getting in the way.

With regard to whether the children are here, whether there is a long term plan for separation etc I'm on the side of Occum's Razor.

There is no evidence so far that either Harry or Meghan plan long term. There is no evidence that they have the ability to run a long game like pretending the children are somewhere else. There is a lot of evidence that they react in the moment, and that they seem unable to predict how anyone is going to react to their actions.

I think they are here, bewildered that they are not garnering much positive press and repeating everything that has failed in the past because they don't have another plan and won't take advice. Hence pap walks, friends making over the top comments and faux security scares.

There is evidence that MM plays the long game. She has done exceptionally well in life given her start point and ‘talents’. She has stood on the neck of many family member, close friend, colleague, ex-husband to move herself up in career and society - very Undine Spragg.

She was never staying in the RF - her eyes were always firmly on the prize which for her was Hollywood A list Elite - not some stuffy, crusty, relatively ‘skint’ European royals - she arrived with her lawyers, agents, PR team and financial advisors in tow. They did a great job whipping up deals for her in LA where off she popped with her stepping stone useful idiot.

But climbing so high exposed her to the world but more importantly to her A List Hollywood Elite as a talentless, grasping, reactive, loose-lipped bully - the worst type of grifting duplicitous character they need in their trusted closed rank network. So she has squandered her opportunity by climbing too high - although I suspect that as is usual with these characters they get found out on most rungs of the ladder and move on quickly.

I suspect they are here TOGETHER to create content for commercial opportunities, to attempt to reconnect with RF so her DC and DH acquire royal glitter - but this is solely to boost her post divorce status like Diana and SF - plenty of grifting scope for the rest of her life there.

PH doesn’t know it yet but she’s leaving him here - it suits her personally and financially.

She ain’t staying this time either - it’s just a short term grift. It wouldn’t surprise me if she left the DC here as well saw them school holidays etc - they are more valuable to her as English sounding RF adjacent Prince and Princess than So Cal fake Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

She always has a plan.

Has Harry’s October diary been published?

twosmallaxolotls · 04/10/2026 10:21

The trouble is - the title is everything to Meghan. She loves it. I suppose she could still use it after the divorce. One source from the Sandringham Summit claims that Meghan's one clear demand was that they had to keep the titles.

I think William is 6' 1" and Harry a bit smaller? Still tall, though. Meghan usually wears those really high stilettos.

Prince William is 6 ft 3, my Dad's met him. My dad is short and says he is indeed a skyscraper.

Hamandaland · 04/10/2026 10:21

JuniperJumper · 04/10/2026 09:28

William obviously grew taller as he had more sausages for his breakfast . . . .

And he had all that extra room in his bigger bedroom so he grew more 🫠

We were thinking staying there this year, as well, but the family like to stay somewhere different every year. Imagine the stories I could have told. I’d having been the on the spot reporter for the threads. I’ll try and persuade them for next year, if the Sussexes are still here.

Years ago Allison Pearson said that if Diana had done nothing else she had at least bred some height into the RF. In a rather memorable phrase, she said that seeing Diana with HM, HMTQM and Pss Margaret was like seeing a giraffe in a family of marmosets.

cheezncrackers · 04/10/2026 10:26

Why the rushed return? What happened?

The loss of Harry's case against Associated Newspapers Limited is what happened. He's on the hook for his share of the damages, which could run to £34.5 million, if the judge awards the maximum, plus his own legal fees, which are surely considerable when you think the case ran for years and he was represented by a top London law firm with David Sherborne as his barrister.

IMO they're back here because they're hemorrhaging money in the US and no longer making any. So this rushed return is to put pressure on RAVEC to reinstall their taxpayer-funded security and save themselves an estimated $2-3 million per year. I honestly think it's as simple as they are running out of money.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/10/2026 10:28

Me too. Money AND chances. And Harry is dim enough to think that Pa will help out with the legal fees, not realising that as monarch, HM can do no such thing.

WilliamsExtraSausage · 04/10/2026 09:30

Jealous of the extra inch? That sounds unhinged.

That's Hazard all over.

He is 6ft. He's bothered his brother is taller. But he is still tall.

He's not 2nd in LoS anymore. But he's about 65 million places ahead of the rest of us. His dad is still the king.

His bedroom was smaller but it was still in a bloody palace/castle/other regal residence.

He was missing a sausage, but he doesn't have to cook a day in his life if he doesn't want to.

Like honestly, Harry, look on the bright side love.

KatherineParr · 04/10/2026 10:35

I think you're both right @cheezncrackers & @MrsDanversGlidesAgain . None of the other possibilities seem to make much sense other than financially things must be starting to crumble. But they must have top financial advisors who will have suggested sensible ways of generating more income and growing their capital. It feels almost unbelievable that they could have got to this point.

I often work with Holocaust survivors. In all honesty I've never met one with such bitterness as Harry.
He should be ashamed.

No amount of financial acumen can help when you have millions going out and zero coming in.

It does, doesn't it? But we all know they don't take advice. I suspect that any sensible financial advisor (or lawyer, for that matter), would have advised Harry against pursuing the case against ANL, which was ridiculously flimsy.

I agree with all of this.

There are so many things Harry doesn't have to do like the rest of us mere mortals.

Life is often very hard for the rest of us, navigating NHS waiting lists, having enough money to pay bills every month, going without simply so your children can eat enough.

He has had more privileges in his life than most of us would get in a hundred lifetimes, and yet he still moans constantly. I am utterly sick of the pair of them and I think lots of people feel the same.

Yes, I think pressure on dear old Pa to bail them out is the secondary strand to their return. The first is RAVEC, the second is the faint hope of rebuilding the royal bridges, based on that one supposedly friendly meeting in July. It's all really rather desperate and pathetic, but that's where they are right now. They are not far from begging IMO and that's why Harry won't be honest about why they're really back and there's all his guff in the media about Invictus and film parts and bla bla bla. It's all bollocks. Its money. Pure and simple.
