I don't think after paying his eye- watering advance it [Spare] turned the kind of profit the publishers were hoping for.

And yet they did it again with Spencer.

I remember when Penguin used to be a reputable publisher. When I was 6th form/student, I used to pick up their printed catalogues in bookshops and go through marking up all the serious nonfiction books I would have liked to buy and read (which realistically I never would have done, but it was nice to pretend).

Oops, I did it again
I played with your wallet
Got lost in the game
Ooh, baby, baby
Oops, you think I'm in love
That I'm sent from above
I'm not that innocent
You see, my problem is this
I'm scheming away, wishing that heroes, they truly exist
I cry watching the days
Can't you see your a fool in so many ways?

That’s much like Pippa’s memorable tips for hosting a children’s birthday party!

This is actually a misrepresentation. She's just flogging her old stuff as usual .

Harry would shit a brick 😳😂

I hate to sound vindictive but please William, do it 😃 I don't think he will though. I think he'll continue with the grey rocking. He will have many other things to consider. His mantra seems to be, Sussexes don't exist

Harry would shit a brick 😳😂

He may look on the bright side and see it as another opportunity to play the victim.

I suspect the torrent of correspondence we are led to believe is flowing from the Sussexes to the palace is goading in nature and designed to provoke and trip the palace up so HAM have yet more to moan about - 'We need clarity about our titles and those of our children now that, without consultation, His Majesty has told the world we are private citizens. Our children, a prince and princess, need stability to flourish as burgeoning gingerlings. Our extensive, mould-breaking humanitarian work would be enhanced by the restoration of our deserved status and a return to the balconies, carriages, churches, abbeys, cathedrals, palaces, castles, banquets, parades, cortèges and regiments which are our birthright. It is humiliating for us to be trodden underfoot and thrown into the same swag bag as Uncle Andrew, whose pecadilloes are perfidious in comparison to my flirtations with a little white powder puff from Elizabeth Arden. Under no circumstances will my wife curtsey to anyone, especially the Princess of Wales, who has usurped my mother's title.'

To such rantings a coherent reply is impossible.

If you think that was optimistic! Check out his suits of armour !

I think he was a very kind man who just wanted to give his horse a nice back rub with his magic wand as they trotted along.

Too Spare?

How about "Spare 2: Please spare us another book"

Usernameinabeyance · 29/09/2026 03:21

If you can sell your spread when all about you

Are writing clapbacks and blaming it on you;

If you can merch yourself when all the posters doubt you,

But post emoji later for a spare uncle too;

If you can whinge and not be tired by whinging,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream- and sell it to Oprah after;

If you can go to Eton and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can reject triumph and court disaster

And write another book just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Retweeted and keep going on like a fool

Or watch the netflix contract you sold your life to broken,

And stoop quite a lot lower with a frozen tool;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on the wife's luxury jam,

And lose, and unflounce back to your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your ginger and thinning locks

To serve your hairline long after they are gone,

And so moan on when there is no substance in you

Ignore Will.who says “please make it stop”;

If you can get security for imagined crowds and demand your ravec retinue,

Or walk away from the King and lose the common touch;

If neither Frogmore or BP can accommodate you;

If US and GB disagree with you, You're not asking too much;

If you can fill the unnecessary minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of droaning on-

Yours is the storefront and everything that's sold on it,

And -which is more- you’ll have luxury jam, spare son

Pippa’s book is much maligned. I have it. The recipes are lovely, it’s beautifully shot and there are some quite ingenious decorating items. I’ll dig it out and give you some topical ideas throughout the year. Halloween first, then Bonfire Night and then to Christmas for starters. It was written for a global audience which is why we Brits take the piss about it so much.

Amazon support of Invictus isn’t new they gave away sporting event tickets for Düsseldorf and had involvement in Canada. For anyone who uses Amazon regularly there is a uk alternative called OnBuy.

BunnyBunbunbun · 29/09/2026 07:30

Bezos doesn't have anything to do with the daily running of Amazon anymore.

Similarly, the Invictus Games aren't really a Harry thing. They are athletic competitions for veterans held with the involvement of different countries' militaries and defence ministries. The government of the host country participates in their organisation and the head of state is perhaps expected to attend for the veterans/military. Companies sponsor the Games for the veterans and because the Games have some kind of official state element. The over-association of the Games with Harry is bad for the Games and could put the British head of state in a bind at the Games to be held in Britain. The UK government should have thought this through before applying to hold the Games.

BunnyBunbunbun · 29/09/2026 07:37

BasiliskStare · 28/09/2026 21:22

Is the Amazon sponsorship confirmed? I can believe it - Jeff Bezos is so rich if he can spend ( OK estimated by various sources - therefore unconfirmed ) 50m on his wedding I am sure the odd 20m to Invictus is a drop in the ocean. Estimates for sponsoring the Met Gala range from what I can see 10m - 20m.
The amount of money he has I haven't even bothered to check $ or £. 😊
I think for the future of the games the question would be is this a one off or has he committed for a number of years? I don't know but, before this, what I could see after Boeing dropped out ,they had the £26m underwritten by the government - £4m already raised and H raised £1.7m via the Old Royal Naval College Greenwich event.
The Amazon deal would be a lifesaver I would think.

Jeff Bezos and Amazon are two separate entities. Bezos stood down several years ago from the running of Amazon. While he is the chairman of the Board and largest shareholder, his shareholdings only amount to 8.2%. The decision to sponsor the Games probably has nothing to do with him and he isn't paying the amount personally.

I wonder why these all make such a feature of the codpiece? It must surely be about posturing between men, because I can’t imagine any women (then or now) looking at them and thinking anything other than well, that seems awfully optimistic!

Political message. if the king was potent and big and strong (as signalled by his codpiece) then so was the nation as he was the symbol of the country. And a 'look, I only have one sone now to continue the dynasty but I'm quite capable of siring more' message to anyone contemplating a toppling of the Tudor dynasty. Look at his stance and those big shoulders - like an animal puffing itself up to look bigger to a possible threat. It's a 'come on if you feel hard enough' message.

Everything in 16c portraits was designed to convey a political message - Elizabeth's were chock full of them.

Beesandhoney123 · 29/09/2026 08:01

Remember reading once that M had snagged herself an unemployed squaddie who lives with and off his nan. He still doesnt have a job, and M seems the only one of them at least trying to make a living, although with her unpopularity, being an influencer is a stretch.

She cant rely on her looks all her life, her face was once her fortune, but as many women know, it doesnt last.

Neither of them work to bring in an income or bolster the old trust fund. The dc will def have to work, because their parents will have spent any inheritance and the rest will go on taxes.

Definitely!

I remember when the BBC did a drama about Henry VIII and cast Ray Winstone as H. Sounds ridiculous, but it brought out exactly the crude, macho, 'I'm hard, me' message you describe!

JSMill · 29/09/2026 08:05

The over association of the Games with Harry is bad for the games. I agree. I don’t think it’s good for any kind of venture to centre around a particular individual if it’s to thrive in the long term. I think H is clinging on and putting himself front and centre because he has little else in his life and that’s selfish.

I'm currently reading The Hunting of The Falcon about Henry and Anne Boleyn and thinking that life at his court must have been hell on the nervous system - never knowing what mood the king was in, whether you were in or out of favour, watching friends and colleagues being ruthlessly dispatched and wondering if you'd die in your bed or violently - yet still putting up with it for the advancement and the perks and the fun.

No doubt about it, the Tudor monarchs were very maladjusted people, every one of them.

In fairness to Meghan she is keeping her head down. Either she’s locked away in her house, or she’s out and about and no one is interested. I’m sup she hadn’t set up any pap shots, the lack of attention must be killing her.

Yes, it's a strange one. Wasn't she popped in a pub garden? Anyway, very low profile for Meghan.
