I never knew about this! Thanks for sharing the photos. God, wasn't Wallis tiny? Look at her tiny waist. Did she have an ED? She must've done to be so thin.

But what was Meghan thinking???? Holy crap. I know everyone was saying she's the modern day WS, but really, did she have to lean into it?

Edited

The hat in the white outfit looked so cheap. Like a plastic kids dressing up hat.

If that was the case, Aprilfountain, I'd have expected a house like Givenchy to guide her towards something more suitable, though whether she'd have accepted the guidance is anyone's guess

Of course it was also Givenchy who caught a cold on the dreadful wedding dress, and we don't know what went on there either

Come to think of it, have they dressed her since Megxit? I can't find anything but imagine one of the fashion mavens on here will know?

I suspect the Givenchy and Dior haute couture were from the time someone else (KC) was footing the bill!

Meghan would probably have loved some kind of “ambassadorship”, or whatever they call it, for a couture house, but didn’t get one. I doubt that H’s doting devotion quite runs to Dior, Chanel and the like if it’s bespoke!

To be fair her wedding dress did look crumpled, and that did detract from it's grandness close up.

I'm old enough to remember the gasps as she left the carriage and we saw how awful it looked! I still find it hard to believe that someone, the designers, the Palace staff, didn't realise this would be a problem, an enormous volume of creasable fabric rammed into a small carriage!

Usernameinabeyance · 27/09/2026 14:19

There was a bit of press around it at the time, Dior did a couture version of a low-key ghosting around the time of The Flouncement

Meghan’s relationship was with Clare Waight Keller, who left Givenchy in April 2020. Meghan has not worn the label since that date. It could be a coincidence of course! She has favoured American labels since then plus the odd bit of Dior, Balenziaga etc. Waight Keller went to Uniqlo, and while Meghan has said she has some of her pieces, she has not worn them publicly.

Wonder if she will turn up at Paris Fashion Week ?

AlexandraCarrington · 27/09/2026 14:33

it would have been amazing to learn about QEII and Prince Philip's earlier life experiences.

And they met virtually anyone who was anyone since the 1940s (including some the Queen would rather not have met). I wonder if we'll ever find out what she really thought about some of them.

ETA Dior dress Camilla, which brings them far more worldwide exposure. They wouldn't be interested in M, who even when she has good clothes, can't wear them properly.

I don't think Diana was a dimwit. She just wasn't well educated.

I am also convinced she described herself as 'thick', and she certainly wasn't academically minded, but there are other types of intelligence. The thing is that Diana, for all her faults, never claimed to be an intellectual, knowledgeable or widely read. Harry in contrast positions himself as knowledgeable and wise. She didn't. Her ticket was about caring and emotional intelligence.

Ah, thanks Serenster; not being into these things I hadn't realised the dress's designer had left, but it's certainly interesting that even the Uniqlo pieces she's said to have bought since haven't been seen in public

And yes, @CoffeeCantata, Charles was undoubtably paying at the time - but then that also goes for the rest of the couture clobber which AFAIK hasn't been since since. Personally I wonder if she has it stored for a "Diana style auction" one day, but we'll see

Absolutely. I am not a M ‘hater’. I find her personality fascinating

Yes. I don't care about any of the royals either way really, except to not believe in the concept of monarchy in the modern world, but she is endlessly fascinating because she just seems so batshit. I really think there are some personality issues there.

She could travel in a small boat across the Channel in Uniqlo, combining her love of affordable fashion with her highly developed social conscience 1. Uniqlo Uncut, then ask for sponsorship for her to walk from Calais to Paris. She would wear the same wind-battered, salt-rotted Uniqlo clothes - 2. Treading in threads. All proceeds to Care for Calais. Then back on the same small boat - 3. Chanel on the Channel. Because it's what global humanitarians do.

King Charles, Uncle Charles and Meghan Markle could collaborate to create a Family Fruits Christmas Trio.

When they stood at the top of the steps of, I think, St Paul's, trying to engage others in conversation, MikeT stood to one side and never looked at them, his face was a picture of forced restraint! Hasn't he been known to refer to Harry as a bellend?

Wasn't this the day after Meghan and Harry grabbed the attention and contrived to get themselves papped inside BP performatively "shushing" the Tindall children during Trooping the Colour

...probably wanted to grab some headlines after only working royals got to do the procession and balcony

I know, I often think - just one afternoon to look at the archives! When they host heads of state, they put out books, letters and items from the archive that they think would be of interest

How far back in time would the archivists go, I wonder? I'd love to see some of the correspondence between Victoria and her Prime Ministers, but also ... Tudor and Stuart history, imagine!

SisterTeatime · 27/09/2026 15:12

Any normal person would take advice about what to wear on a royal engagement, but MM isn’t a normal person. She has to be the centre of attention. If that means showing everyone her pants, so be it.

The Diana mimicry and the Wallis references are also ways of gaining attention. I think she has manipulated H into thinking she’s like his mother, but otherwise I don’t think she thinks much further than ‘this will get me attention’ and/or ‘this will piss off the RF’.

I do wonder whether in her own mind she looks great in all her outfits (I’m thinking particularly of all the things she’s worn that simply don’t fit her) but I think the main factor is attention - if only for wearing something completely unsuited to the occasion, weather, etc.

Right from the start she was ‘rebelling’ by wearing unsuitable clothes - the jeans to Invictus, the ridiculous engagement photo dress and ill-fitting engagement shoot outfit with the oddly dirty shoes, the blinding white wedding dress and virginal veil, not wearing a hat on that solo engagement with the Queen, then wearing off the shoulder garments in the daytime, on BP balcony, etc.

Thank you for that @bluegreygreen . If I'm honest I suspect there are many big country estates which "cash in". An example Alnwick Castle ( featured in the Harry Potter films ) https://www.alnwickcastle.com/shop/harry-potter These estates are very expensive to maintain. But , is Northampton really famous for soft fruit? I don't know and happy to be corrected , but most visitable country houses have a gift shop. Eg Chatsworth sells jam in theirs. However the late Deborah Mitford I think was famous for her love of farming and local produce ( & Elvis IIRC) The problem HAM have and I think increasingly CS , is that the way they have behaved by cashing in on royal adjacency , just rather invites scepticism .
BTW I don't think the Duke of Northumberland and the Duke of Devonshire are cashing in on royal adjacency in the same way.

Oh yes, he was definitely doing it 'by design' (i.e. plotting). It seems bizarre that al-Fayed was allowed to get so close that summer in 1997 to William (the heir's heir) and Harry. (Diana was clearly a law to herself by then.) If we minions all knew al-Fayed was dodgy as hell, goodness knows what the security services had on him. Or have I been watching too many espionage films again??

I felt so sorry for William in 1997 - at 14-15 he clearly hated being paraded in front of the paps by Diana and the Fayeds that summer and tried to cover his face or keep it hidden.

Clearly they could have afforded to go somewhere very private but chose St Tropez in July - probably to present this as the "fun" holiday in contrast to the Windsors in damp and draughty Balmoral

Yes, I agree, she is 'fascinatingly batshit' and H is obsessed with her, possibly because he craves attachment and she offers him some flannel about her authenticity, their connection and how much he must love her.

I'm reminded of the grey Roland Mouret dress she wore on an official visit to Ireland, the day she visited Dublin. It was so tight you could see the outline of her underwear.
Plus the dress she wore to the actors' retirement home when she was pregnant. It was so tight it was straining at the seams.
Awful. One of the worst things I've seen on any royal.

fuschiaproudparrot · 27/09/2026 15:45

Gee whizz that is horrific ! It's too tight in all the wrong places . Inappropriate as usual - maybe she was trying to do pregnant but still sexy ? First time I've seen this.

..that she was a committed segregationist and antisemitic?
She was a good friend of Ribbentrop and admired the Nazi regime?

I am not criticizing your post in any way at all. I just follow these threads and post now and again. And here we have Goodwins Law in action.

I think your post is a totally valid point by the way. And a good post. Just wanted to note Goodwins. I use the broader concept of Goodwins here, not the original specific.
