This was at an event this week. But the photo just made me gasp. It looks like the elderly woman is being used as a prop, rather than being treated in a dignified way.

I am properly laughing now 😂. I really don’t think this thread has gone as the OP expected 😂😂

Ok. Well, we all have different interests.

Well, socialist republicans like moi like to discuss the monarchy in a sensible way within the longue durée of historical context. There are many well-read and intelligent commentators on the Royal Family board of MN, including those who err toward supporting a constitutional monarchy.

(Some of these posters and ‘lurkers’ are journalists and bloggers/YouTubers. The excitement!)

And I don’t need permission from the bizarre fan club of a royal duke trying to claw back his ‘HRH’ in order to enjoy my time as a mild-mannered republican on MN.

I find it ridiculous that on a thread like this, supporters of W&K who accuse their critics of being 'mean' feel free to rubbish & insult others. To the extent of stalking the OP across the site, directly insulting both posters and other members of the RF they don't like so much. Some posts have even been none too respectful of the lady herself.

I would disagree that W&K 'do a great job'; many of us are aware that they do the barest minimum and are massively, undeservedly rewarded for it.

But I accept that it is fighting a losing battle for certain posters to even concede that their beloved RF members are capable of putting a foot wrong at times.

@LipglossAndLies there were nicer photos that could have been chosen. I’m not bothered whether the Waleses stood for a photo. If that was a photo chosen I’d have slated them for it. But it wasn’t AFAIK.

The OP posted a photo that was in the public domain and stated her view. I don't agree it was inappropriate in any way to do that, people post these kinds of things all the time including on MN. But apparently the royal family members must be coddled & protected from any kind of criticism

You know what - if the OP, who I believe prides themselves on “owning” their mistakes - had just said - oh yeah you’re right, I saw this photo on Reddit but I can see now it’s not actually the one that was used and there’s nothing weird going on - the thread would have died, despite the naked cynicism and meanspiritedness of the OP. But instead they doubled down, trying to suggest that there were two elderly women in the same place at the same time, with the same hair and face, wearing the same coat, both of whom had their photo taken with the PPoW. And then ran away. So of course people are going to take the piss. Especially when there are tons of other ridiculous posts by the same person across the boards today. And others jumping in to suggest that it’s crass to be in a photo with someone turning their head, they shouldn’t have allowed it, and that their smiles are terrifying - are also likely to have the piss taken. Welcome to the internet.
