Inappropriate photo op for William and catherine

This was at an event this week. But the photo just made me gasp. It looks like the elderly woman is being used as a prop, rather than being treated in a dignified way.

I know, imagine if it was their grandmother? How nasty.
I can only think there's a desperation to malign Kate, but they can't find anything.

damnatiomemoriae · 01/10/2026 23:02

Tame photographers have their place though.

I'm going to say that's actually a more likely story than Kate exploiting the elderly....

damnatiomemoriae · 01/10/2026 23:09

You are likely right.

I’m thinking the yacht wasn’t hit by Nessie after all.

She just happened to be there (with a tame photographer) when the boat sank due to the weight of all the unsold jam.

Tame photographers, eh? Who knew they even existed?

Well I didn't make up the photo it is a published one presumably from tame photographers allowed to be there.

Would you like to come back and explain why you posted a fake ai manipulated photo?
instead of making the pow look bad you have only showed up yourself.

wordler · 01/10/2026 23:25

So it’s not actually a doctored image - it’s one of a series of snaps taken at the event.

The poor woman was just mid laughing and talking and like happens to us all some pics are more unflattering than others.

What’s disturbing for me is that @diggrrt seems to think it’s some gotcha about Kate?

What exactly is your point?

Kate talks to elderly woman after being invited to help support a local service? Some people she meets are old and not photo shoot perfect?

How in any way does that reflect badly on anyone in these photos?

You can see the original within this set from the day by Getty.

damnatiomemoriae · 01/10/2026 23:28

I actually like the photo (the proper one).

You don’t laugh like that unless you mean it.
I think when there are photographers around (tame or not), it is lovely to see someone enjoying the moment despite being ‘on show’.

There’s a warmth there that can’t be taught. It is genuine. Although I suppose it helps when people are happy to see you too.

I feel deeply sorry for those who cannot just let themselves go. Always aware of a lens, always controlling a narrative, always caring about an image, trying to force connections.

Connections happen naturally and I think that is why they always seem to capture that with Catherine.

Ah - so another case of picking the most unflattering photo they could to try to make a point.

And fuck the woman snapped in an unflattering second because it suits the cause.

Now ain’t that nice.

OlympicWomen · 01/10/2026 23:33

It was such a lovely event - in fact both of these events were. They weren't about making William and Kate look important, or glamorous or special, they weren't about promoting a brand or making money. They were about meeting people, supporting charities, engaging with others and bringing a bit of joy into people's lives.
To try to find a horrible image in order to suggest something else is absolutely vile.

Imagine exploiting that poor woman for your own horrible motives.

fuschiaproudparrot · 02/10/2026 03:17

And for such a petty reason - let's be honest here. Two posters - one a regular - who dropped and ran and a new name. 🤷‍♀️

@diggrrt Are you going to ask MNHQ to remove that awful photo you've posted?

And what is a 'tame' photographer? I know some are a bit wild, but I've never heard of a tame one . . .

To me, it tells me 2 things

  • those people who for some bizarre reason have decided to hate W and C are unscrupulous and basically not very nice at all and
  • they are clearly desperate if they have to resort to trying to deceive the rest of us

As for WHY they hate them, try asking! You won't get any coherent answer, but they'll say that they're lazy (rubbish) or dull. I think by dull they mean 'they do their job professionally, without drama or fuss, wearing suitable but not edgy or attention-grabbing clothes. I'll take dull, thanks - if that's what they mean.

How you could hate someone for just being dull....I don't believe it for a minute. It's Sussex Squad stuff - that's all they've got on W and C, 'dull and lazy'.

OlympicWomen · 02/10/2026 07:22

I've no idea why people would hate them, @CoffeeCantata! This thread is bewildering, so nasty and so unnecessary.

JuniperJumper · 02/10/2026 07:31

I really feel MNHQ should review their policy on these types of photographs being used on threads. As I stated when I reported the first one, I would be horrified if my grandmothers photograph was used in this way.

I am still angry about their refusal to remove the photo and, if they had done so, we could have immediately asked for the one that was posted yesterday to be removed too

I sincerely hope this isn't going to be an ongoing issue on MN and that PP's will have learnt from the many responses that this is NOT acceptable to the vast majority of us

OlympicWomen · 02/10/2026 07:38

I would agree with you, @JuniperJumper. I reported the original one, which we can still see. Fortunately, the OP was robustly challenged, but should people be allowed to basically post lies and defamatory images?
It's really not good.

MrsLeonFarrell · 02/10/2026 07:48

I'm not going to debunk the photo others have done that.

A very strange decision to attempt to post a false narrative for this event. The story behind the photos was everywhere, they were laughing because the lady didn't believe Catherine ate crisps and Catherine was talking about her favourite flavour.

These blatant lies aimed at Catherine are clearly the result of her popularity. The only people who come out looking bad are those who post them. I would normally assume posters have made a mistake but it's clear these days that some post in bad faith.

OlympicWomen · 02/10/2026 08:28

I'm actually glad this has been left to stand. Also this most recent post with picture. It just shows how low some people go to misrepresent W&K.

noonames · 02/10/2026 09:13

This reminds me of a lovely video I saw the other day of a football coach talking to a little girl who had just been fouled and was crying. He’s giving her a big pep talk explaining that the reason she gets fouled is because she’s such a good player, there’s nothing else the opposition can do. It does make sense to me that attacks like this on the PoW are down to jealousy and anger at how good she is at her job, and how popular. Not at all cold, aloof, awkward etc, no word salad lectures needed, no ignoring people who don’t matter, no sense that it’s all a performance for the cameras, just naturally really good at connecting with people. She’s not that easy to criticise unless you resort to deception or lies or personal comments about her body shape.

What a bizarre post. You get fouled because someone has decided to commit a foul on you, or makes an error that fouls you. It has absolutely nothing to do with how good or bad a player you are. There’s no correlation between footballing prowess and the number of fouls committed on you.

That coach was simply trying to be nice to an upset child by spinning her a line, in the same way as posters on here say ‘Ignore her — she’s just jealous!’ on absolutely no evidence when someone behaves coldly to an upset poster.

The PoW is just a well-behaved nonentity doing her job. Which is to be a well-behaved nonentity who must never breathe a hint of personality, personal politics, quirks or oddities. She’s doing admirably.
