Inappropriate photo op for William and catherine

This was at an event this week. But the photo just made me gasp. It looks like the elderly woman is being used as a prop, rather than being treated in a dignified way.

I didn't trash anyone. I was asked what I thought of William so gave my general very limited impressions.

You want us to treat William, Catherine, Charles and Camilla as saints. No negative views at all ever. Simply living saints

No, that is completely wrong.
Don't treat William as a saint, but don't trash him.

OlympicWomen · 22/09/2026 11:36

@OneLilacHedgehog- how can you deny trashing William when you started this vile thread, which isn't even true?!
Bizarre

CoffeeCantata · 22/09/2026 12:12

To do a spiteful, dishonest thing is bad enough…but to try and pretend it was done innocently and you simply have no idea why pps are criticising you is just ridiculous.

Misrepresentation of images and information is a real danger nowadays- we are all vulnerable to malign forces which want to manipulate us. And here’s a MNer who’s tried just that and won’t admit it because the discussion didn’t go their way.

Worse! , they pinched it from a wales hate forum on Reddit!

Yes sorry, I just meant they nicked a photo not in the public domain from Reuters.

Are you quite OK? in all seriousness, what the heck are you talking about? frankly, if anyone gets treated as a saint it's Diana. The grown ups among us know that just like the rest of us the RF are flawed fallible adults who make mistakes, except theirs are in the full glare of publicity.

I know you say that, but it's not true.
Or if it's true tell me what you don't like about the king, queen, William and Catherine? What would you criticise about them?

I have a theory that the reason some people (OK, let's be honest - Sussex Supporters) are so mean about W and K is because they know in their heart of hearts that Harry and Meghan have behaved badly towards his family but can't admit it to themselves. So they manufacture reasons to justify their behaviour.

And those reasons are largely manufactured - and often unbelievably trivial, as OP has proved. I mean - you don't dislike someone because you find their clothes boring! You might dislike someone because they have lied about their relatives to a world audience and betrayed family confidences and relationships. You might be justified in disliking someone for that.

But for having boring clothes? For getting a bit excited at a footie match? Pull the other one.

It's a bit like bullies claiming their victims were asking for it and that any normal person would have bullied them too.

Now remembering the PP whose complaint about the Waleses was that their teeth are too frightening. Thoughts and prayers.
(Hate to think how they feel about CS’s veneers 😬)

Why aren't you answering questions about this thread you started?
Why did you start it? Why trash William and Kate?

And you are ignoring my question.

I wonder if the OP has any sense of how ridiculous it looked to claim that there were two women on Bute that day wearing the same clothes, both of whom had their photo taken with the PPoW, one of whom was happy and one treated as a prop 🤔

(And then avoid all mention of said doubling down.)

What isn't true?

And don't interrogate me and demand my opinions, thanks, I'm not in court. I suggest you ask MN to delete this thread because it's getting silly.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 22/09/2026 13:02

No the thread should stand as an example of how petty and bitchy some OPs can be.

It's irrelevant what people like or dislike about individuals in the RF, stop trying to distract people from calling you to account for starting this thread.

LivingForTheWinter · 22/09/2026 13:17

Absolutely nothing normal about starting this thread. Nothing at all.

Yes, and how William and Kate get trashed for no reason; it's a total manipulation of the situation in a really nasty way.

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 22/09/2026 13:18

The modus operandi used to be post ridiculous things, claim bullying and try to get posters banned.

bluegreygreen · 22/09/2026 13:20

Then there are people like me who see what Diana did to change the stigma around aids. Again if you weren't an adult then I don't think you can understand what it was like then.

Anyone can show empathy. It's actions to change things that matters.

Princess Margaret, of course, had been doing the same for years, and was patron of London Lighthouse well before Diana came along.

Ah well you see blue ….posters on the royal board are both old ladies and simultaneously not adults according to what is being argued…..facts are just an inconvenience.

This.

i don’t care what anyone’s stance is - whether it be republican/royalist, H&M/W&C, CS/KC.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I live in hope of having my perceptions robustly challenged - perhaps enough to make me think I am mistaken.

This OP was not that.

If one must post something in order to slate x,y or z then have at it. But have something at least to back it up.

The OP did not have that.

If one is challenged to explain their frankly shocking and distasteful post, it would be helpful if they did - instead of paddling round in a pool of whataboutery.

If they then assert they have addressed any questions about a post, it would also be helpful to remember folk have eyes and can see that they have not.

But most of all, it would be nice to see someone who has insisted they own their mistakes actually own this one.

HM also visited a leper colony in 1956 when lepers were still social outcasts. In fact checking it she was a patron of leper charities from 1947.

This stupid thread could be put out of its misery if only OP would own their lack of judgement. Something like:

I now admit that it was a grave misjudgment to try to present this photograph as evidence of bad behaviour on the part of William and Catherine, especially since I deliberately selected it from photographs showing more positive images of the occasion. I now acknowledge it was an error of judgement and in no sense a sly attempt to misrepresent the facts for my own personal agenda.

There, I’ve done it for you, OP. All you need to do is sign it.

@CoffeeCantata your posts on this thread are spot on ! I would have more respect for the OP if they were at least honest about their intentions. Yup I saw it on Reddit and thought that's a good one for MN to wind them all up. I will say though that it is entertaining watching the OP flailing. No guts.

I’m republican (I’m Irish) but I can admire people in the Royal family doing a professional job but respect others who put forward reasonable arguments against it.

There are posters who I disagree with but respect their viewpoints, like the rest of politics say ‘disagreeing agreeably’. The board after Catherine’s illness was diagnosed were peaceful and respectful and I hope they can stay that way.

Absolutely, a good discussion is great, but using evidence and putting forward a good argument. This sort of thing is just dreadful.
