We should have a bet on how soon there's the first sighting in a charity shop.

He’s waited his whole life to be king and I think William is busy being a decent, present father, so personally I think in maybe 5+ years it would be better for the Wales family. Just a personal thought.
Harry has sod all to do with this, he be a terrible king if that ever was a possibility, nasty little oik of an entitled man … he’d be live Henry VIII or George IV….. and Megain would be horrific - can you even imagine!!

LaMarschallin · 23/09/2026 21:10

Just seen the final poll result: it's pretty conclusive.

jeffgoldblum · 23/09/2026 23:42

It always is ….but apparently we are the nutty minority!

HoppityBun · 23/09/2026 23:48

No. We don’t need to fork out for another blimmin funeral and another blimmin coronation.

Plus he’s doing ok. Stability has been in short supply, of recent years.

It’s hard to remember now, but decades ago, people were saying that QE2 should abdicate. For no reason that I could fathom other than fancying a change of cast members.

mondaytosunday · 24/09/2026 00:07

I dint see how any of those are a reason to abdicate. The only reason would be his health.

Obeseandashamed · 24/09/2026 00:48

No definitely not. William doesn’t have the maturity to be king.

BunnyBunbunbun · 24/09/2026 08:18

I think William wouldn't want to be King right now and would prefer his children to be much older when he finally does become King.

He had a phone call with the Canadian prime minister the other day, so is certainly able to interact with other world leaders and politicians.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/09/2026 08:22

Why should HM abdicate? he gives every sign of thoroughly enjoying himself, he has top notch medical treatment and can rest when he wants (altho sources suggest it's difficult to get him to do that). The late queen in the end was power sharing with him, and if it did get too much for HM there'll probably be the same arrangement with Prince William.

Anyway, abdication is a dirty word in the RF.

MediterraneanPlantingHere · 24/09/2026 08:24

No.

What do you think @catspyjamas1 - you haven’t given a view at all?

(Or much contribution to something that was important enough to you, to start a thread)

Monarchy is a corrupt institution. In public office for private gain.

Abolish the monarchy. A waste of space and money.
Greedy lazy so called royals they cost a fortune 500 million, cut their budget.

The two Duchies should be rolled into the State Owned Crown Estate not giving over 50 million to Charles and William to pocket. Abolish get rid.

lytjewillem · 24/09/2026 12:12

Why? A king is taught from a young age how to represent the country. Charles seems a fine representative, respected throughout the world. If you don’t have a royal family then you surrender who your representative is to the people. That’s how you get representatives like Trump. Would you prefer that? Do you have enough faith in the people to choose a good one instead of voting for an ad on the side of the bus promissing the NHS more money?

Honestly Charles is not respected throughout the world. The commonwealth did not want him as their head for a start. It took a personal request from Elizabeth for them to accept him.

OneLilacHedgehog · 24/09/2026 15:30

The truth is with a hereditary monarchy you get whoever is born. It could just as easily have been king Andrew with Epstein and Maxwell heavily involved at the palace.

A more detailed take on 'the commonwealth didn't want him'; which we've no way of knowing is the truth or not, as none of us are (I assume) privy to the opinions of commonwealth heads and not in a position to make definitive statements about their opinions.

Prince Charles, Prince of Wales talks to guests as he attends the Commonwealth Big Lunch on Wednesday

'No other options' for Commonwealth head?

Is the idea of Prince Charles succeeding his mother - the Queen - a done deal?

noonames · 24/09/2026 15:43

I remember there was talk that the Queen’s death would be the end of the commonwealth and that countries would start leaving. Hasn’t happened yet though.

OneLilacHedgehog · 24/09/2026 15:55

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain that article backs up what I said. It just also agues why Charles would be best as head of the commonwealth

HalzTangz · 24/09/2026 15:56

Cucurella · 17/09/2026 20:13

Because Harry and Meghan are back in the UK? Really?

Agreed, they aren't working royals, there presence in the UK has no relevance on those that are working royals

HalzTangz · 24/09/2026 15:57

catspyjamas1 · 17/09/2026 20:41

Agree.

Releasing the book to grab monies to pay all the court costsoat likely

LeedsLoiner · 24/09/2026 15:59

Once the Royal Family becomes a "Strictly" style popularity contest it's finished.

The only qualification required to become King or Queen is being the first child pushed out of the Magic Royal Fanny and then doing the job (regardless of how well they do it) until they die.

If that changes then the whole institution is done.

You don't have to have Trump or Blair or Farage, loads of countries have absolutely normal Presidents who serve their terms with little controversy and then move over for the next one.

I’m sure their security has been adjusted accordingly 😬😱
