I would rather have history and linage than a president elected……

I would much rather someone I had a say in appointing!

No - he waited years and years to fulfil his destiny, and I think he is making a good job of it so far.

Spencer is a bloody spiteful troublemaker and not a very nice man, by all accounts.

H&M are non-entities as far as the LoS is concerned.

I'm sure Spencer is an utter arse. But then compared to Andrew "age of consent? What's that?" Windsor, Charles "So what if I'm married? And she's married? I'm going to fuck her anyway then make her queen" Windsor, Edward 'No detectable talent or income yet and to maintain a lavish lifestyle" Windsor etc his flaws seem rather minor.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/09/2026 19:40

I think its time for all of them to go. Hereditary privilege is totally outdated and who the hell wants to be born into that.

Laiste · 19/09/2026 06:56

Do you know - i think all this shit storing attempts by Earl Spencer are having the opposite effect to what i imagine he would hope.

People who were on the fence now feel a bit sorry for Charles.

OldWallpaper · 19/09/2026 06:58

No. Why should he!

bananaobama · 19/09/2026 06:59

No. He wont. He is duty bound to be king. He wss born to do it. He will honour his dufy

scalt · 19/09/2026 07:19

Please, can we delay the expensive coronation which will follow as long as we can?

And in spite of my above comment, I’d rather have the monarchy than President Blair, President Johnson, President Truss.

How fickle the public can be. Charles' recent US visit was a complete coup. He is the right man for the role.

Autumngirl5 · 19/09/2026 22:38

Of course not! He is a good king and he made a vow to rule the country and that’s what he will do.
I have a lot of respect for him.
It is a shame that Harry and Megan are so tiresome but hopefully they will soon get bored and move off somewhere else.

When are people going to understand that the whole point of a monarchy is that it doesn't matter what we all think about the monarch personally. The only reason he might ever consider it is if his health deteriorates to the point where he can't carry out his role. Everything else is just noise

You are right of course. If Andrew had been the oldest he could have invited loads of nonces to the palace and he would have been legally above the law for any crimes.
It's simply who is born next in line, merit is not a consideration

Yes, we’ve definitely dodged two bullets in the current king and the heir 😅

Charles Windsor is a weak man. I don't think he is a good king. But sure he is not accused of raping sex trafficked teenagers, so there is that at least.

William has not been king yet, so we can't judge his performance yet.

Probably fair to say though that William is a better bet than Harry the international laughing stock and slapper of strangers’ bums.

Recollections vary

Charles Spencer must be finding things tight in the run up to Christmas. Such a paragon of virtue himself.

He definitely doesn't abide by the saying, "He who is without sin may cast the first stone.". Spencer's glass house is totally shattered with his sins. The only stones he should be casting are at a mirror as he stares back.

I would have preferred William to have become King upon Queen Elizabeth's death. That was never going to happen, and I think Charles should continue.

He doesn't have the gravitas.

Should the King abdicate?

Nah. No idea if he’s any good at the job or not, but he way as well stay where he is.

Those two idiots coming back to the UK aren’t important, so he just needs to ignore them. They are of no use to anyone.

Mateys book will blow over. He’s as thick as they come. When the press have had their column inches “being on his side”, they’ll then turn on him to get a few more, so I can’t see it ending well for him.

BunnyBunbunbun · 20/09/2026 08:06

If Charles abdicated then William would be King and that would put all those who hate Charles because of his allegedly beastly treatment of Diana in a bind - Charles Spencer above all - because William is the son of Diana and a Spencer. How will they cope?

Would it put them in a bind, or would Spencer just be more insufferable, “oh look I won, the King abdicated because of me.”.

I don't necessarily mean this very second. Perhaps in a few years because he's not in good health or too old - I don't for a second think he would abdicate because of Charles Spencer's nonsense. I don't think he will abdicate anyway, but this is just hypothetically speaking

The King Charles haters seem to hate the whole BRF and have it down as a mafia organisation that pretty much killed Diana. Charles Spencer is I suspect very much a believer in royalty, but his (retrospective) bitterness seems to start with the future Queen Elizabeth marrying Prince Philip. He even writes in his book that there was a romantic connection between his father and a (preteen?) Elizabeth but Louis Mountbatten put a stop to put - the implication being that John Spencer and Elizabeth would have married but Louis Mountbatten did all he could to end their romance so that his nephew, Philip, would marry Elizabeth. Otherwise, there would have been a Windsor-Spencer dynasty and the son of John Spencer would be king today!

So, I guess on a superficial level, if King Charles abdicated Charles Spencer might think it's a win for him, but with William as King he would quickly have to reorient his attitude to the royal family and be nice about it (he made a bullshit post on Instagram a couple of years ago about how wonderful and graceful Catherine is for being brave in her fight against cancer). Even if he did that, my suspicion is that William's feelings towards Spencer are not at all warm, especially now Spencer has put out this book exploiting his mother and attacking his father. And if William hates anything it's these salacious media scandals.

A King William may be superficially polite to Charles Spencer but he would keep him very much at arm's length, especially if old King Charles were still alive. Even when old King Charles dies, Charles Spencer will be pretty much frozen out from anything to do with the royal family, even if his nephew is head of it.

As for the King Charles haters, they will be confused. They will probably say of King William when does something good that "he's just like his mother". They will switch to loving Catherine (right now, many don't) and will go on about how much George looks like a Spencer. Many of them aren't even British and are just leftover Diana fan girls from the 90s who don't really understand what the royal family is.

On the whole, however, if they want to support Diana's legacy, then they will have to support the British royal family under King William.

pilates · 20/09/2026 09:40

No, he will do his duty until his death like the late Queen.

CoffeeCantata · 23/09/2026 16:25

I hope not. I think it must have been a difficult week for him but (as I suspected when it all blew up) the tide will turn against Spencer eventually.

I've only read short bits on here but a lot of it seems to be hearsay - so we only have his word for it and he's a Grade A Shit. I do think that will develop into more of an issue with time.

Also, as others have said, he's such a horrible man with a terrible relationship history that criticisms of Charles's conduct as a husband will ring a bit hollow with all but the RF haters, who'd believe anything bad about them that comes their way.

I just think Spencer will come under increasing scrutiny and then criticism himself. He might make a lot of money from flogging this dodgy book but in the end I think it won't impact KC too much.
