Royal row between King Charles and Earl Spencer

Buckingham Palace said they don't usually comment but they can't stay silent. Apparently Prince Charles said at the time of Diana's death rest assured we'll forget her soon enough. Which is pretty horrendous. Charles has more or less said grief had clouded Earl Spencer's judgement and memory.

I don't know why he has waited nearly 30 years to come out with this.

Well, more revelations on the news from his book. If it's true it really shows KC in a bad light. He's saying charles sounded elated when diana died. That"'s shocking. I truly cant imagine Charles Spencer would make up something like that.

Charles Spencer did a podcast interview with Giles Brandreth a few months ago - I’d urge people to watch it. You get much more of an idea of what he’s like and the life he’s had.

As for the comment, I’m pretty sure you’d remember someone saying that to you. Why invent such a thing all this time later?

I saw that. It warmed me to him actually.

I don't think some of the recent posters have read the thread. They are just pouncing and putting others down. There are many references, articles, quotes, videos in the thread all backing up what people have been saying.

For the last time, there isn't one pen incident - there are 2 with KC in a temper and just gesticulating and whingeing. He has also been rude about Camilla in a walkabout - saying "she goes on" - tantrums galore.

Well, I don’t live in a posh bubble where no one ever gets mildly expressive about the little irritations in life.

Summerlovingtheraspberries · 17/09/2026 18:34

Charles Spencer is vile.
Let’s not forget the disgusting things he has said about his own wife- of whom there have been many.
He also refused Diana’s request to stay at his mansion.

Are you writing a Mastercard commercial?

See through engagement dress £56,000.

Ill-fitting wedding dress £110,000 ish.

Side boob flashing salmon dress £450.

Spread not jam $12

Being giddily elated at the refusal of the emerald tiara? Priceless.

Most of us are too busy dealing with large irritants in life

I may watch it but nothing is going to warm me to a man who described his wife as “thick and thin” in reference to an eating disorder.

You have more on your plate than a head of state. OK dearie.

Not really. There is a pre defined plan for the death of all the RF and public figures with all involved knowing well ahead of time what their role is. This would have started from that first phone call.

The Queens’ funeral was pre defined in the same way. That was eleven days after she passed.

Only funning 😃

I simply don't believe that the father of two bereaved young sons would be "elated" hours after her death, even if he absolutely hated her.

It certainly solved many problems for him.

If someone is quite selfish, which I believe he is (how could he not be, being raised as a King), he might well have seen what was in it for him first. He might well have been ... relieved at least. For a moment or three.

He might also have been sad for his kids. He might have worried about backlash against the monarchy, against him, against Camilla.

I mean - there were so many considerations I do not know why opportunity and freedom were not also part of them.

TheOvertGardener · 17/09/2026 18:38

Daygloboo · 17/09/2026 18:35

No he didnt.

Ok, so you can let us know why she wasn’t speaking to him.

Meanwhile, I doubt she’d have wanted this misogynistic asshat to write a book about her.

Sorry you are wrong. Diana was no longer royal so there was no defined funeral plan. They had to adapt the one for the queen mother.

I thought that was what that poster meant, anyway.

mumsneedwine · 17/09/2026 18:40

Why has it taken 30 years to tell us all ? I believe he has his 4th v expensive divorce payment coming up. None of his kids speak to him.
Why would he say all this if not true ? ££££££££££

Absolutely not true

“It certainly solved many problems for him.”

What a sad outlook on life.

No he didn’t. Can’t be arsed explaining again, it’s all there upthread. It was also the subject of a successful lawsuit Spencer brought against a national newspaper who alleged the same thing, so maybe not wise to post like this on a public forum 🤣

Yes, the recent posters haven't read the thread and are just saying the same things or putting in vulgar descriptions - not very convincing.

hattie43 · 17/09/2026 05:47

I don’t believe it . Charles is a sensitive man and earl Spencer is a much raker. Why wait 30 years to write a book , he needs the money to pay for all those ex wives ??? How is it helpful to William and Harry to read that supposed statement by their father.

King Charles is sensitive when it comes to himself or his own beliefs.
I do not think he is without merit. He gave a great speech to Congress for example and he was ahead of his time on environmental issues although he could be described as hypocrite on that in some ways too.
However, I can't see that he had sensitivity when it came to Diana. Jealousy yes. Sensitivity or empathy not so much.

As for Charles Spencer, I don't think the decision to publish this book covers him in glory. If Diana didn't have children and grandchildren, maybe, but she did/does so it feels a bit of a low blow. I don't know though, Harry not mind much given what seems to be his current relationship with KC.

You’re correct. But that wasn’t what l was actually saying. I was replying to a poster who asserted that Diana’s funeral would have been pre planned so six days wasn’t a particularly short time frame. I was just pointing out that the interval between the queen passing and her funeral was almost twice that.

So you mean the lawsuit his mistress (now wife) filed against his wife? Or another one?

What was the grounds for that one, anyway?
”She told her husband that I’m shagging something that might make him want to stop shagging me?”

By vulgar do you mean his own description of yet another wife?

Why would he be elated? He knew he'd have 2 devastated dc and he'd also know some would paint him as the villain for years to come as we have indeed seen.

Spencer is talking bollocks. There's loads of clips all over X of him in interviews being a money grabber in the immediate aftermath of Diana's death and saying KC had been perfectly polite.

I assume you want to derail the thread - I have no idea what that is all about. It is a shame as posters had varying views and it had been interesting until this.
