Royal row between King Charles and Earl Spencer

Buckingham Palace said they don't usually comment but they can't stay silent. Apparently Prince Charles said at the time of Diana's death rest assured we'll forget her soon enough. Which is pretty horrendous. Charles has more or less said grief had clouded Earl Spencer's judgement and memory.

I don't know why he has waited nearly 30 years to come out with this.

There is no proof of that whatsoever. You'd think there would be photos, wouldn't you?

Edited

Diana said he did. The military uniform Charles wore means you can only just glimpse the edge of the cufflinks in some photos, but you can't see the full cufflink, so can't see an engraving.
Charles is not stupid you know.

Janiie · 17/09/2026 18:02

I think this is an own goal for Spencer. It's all just tittle tattle amd absolutely unbelievable. There is not a chance that KC would be 'giddlily elated' at the tragic death of the mother of his dc. He'd know the massive impact it would have on them obviously.

Spencer is an absolute arsehole.

I didn't bring up the Middletons. Someone else did. I was answering their post.
Maybe challenge the poster who originally said they have never put a foot wrong

Maybe I answered your post because you had ever such a lot to say on the subject.

Bloody nonsense. He feels strongly about stuff, he has opinions, he's hemmed in by protocol.

You have no idea that 'staff' ask C to come over- that's media tittle tattle.

They adore each other. They do not live apart. She retained her own home after her divorce, as a means to get away from the pomp of the royal palaces so she can entertain her friends and family without all the restrictions of the royal residences, wear jeans, slob out a bit, be NORMAL.

I think every married woman I know would love a 2nd home to escape to now and then for some me-time.

Good on her I say.

Edited

I agree they appear to adore each other. I didn't claim anything else. Yes they live apart and have said so in the past. Although the reasons given change. An early article of Camilla in her home claimed it was because she liked to have grandchildren over. Which just gave the impression Charles was so irritable he couldn't cope with a few children in his massive mansion.

I don't believe all gossip. But over the years there have been many stories from different sources about Camilla having to calm Charles down. Even some praising her saying she is the only one who can calm him. So yes I think it is true.

So elated means presumably happy. Is he seriously saying that when KC spoke with Diana's family he sounded happy and excited?

Even if he did (unlikely) why wash this or of dirty linen in public and damage young children's relationship with their grandfather.

What Charles Spencer is doing with that book is disgusting. What he says about his anorexia ex is also disgusting, especially as his sisters also had an eating disorder.

I thought Charles looked very shocked upset and worried at time - reporters around time who read people for a living and had better in person access than me also seem to think that as well. Possibly he was tried and emotional when calling people afterwards all I can think that was misinterpreted because frankly it does not ring very true .

I really can't see him being pleased - not least the impact on his own kids.

I also agree I can't see those comments being helpful to anyone.

I think it could have been distressing but I never understood the big hoo ha about it either. Their mum had died that was the distressing part of course. They may have wanted to sit quietly and not be public at the funeral. I just think it is in the past and whoever decided it did so possibly not thinking it through and maybe just her brother could have followed the coffin but it is in the past and can be let go of now.

There was a lot of thinking it through and they still made W do it. H did it to be with him

This.

I wonder just how many women would love this arrangement.

I've read that at Clarence House which they share the bedrooms are arranged as a suite of 3. One they share in the middle and one for each of them on either side.

For older, achey, snorey/snuffly, tossy/turny bad sleepers this sounds like bliss!

OneLilacHedgehog · 17/09/2026 18:12

Charles is not stupid. He is not going to walk around in public with press looking happy.

He did seem shocked and I'm quite sure he'd never have revealed anything to that bumbling arsehole anyway.

Harry and Spencer so very alike, cashing in on Diana's death and behaving like the very paps that they loathe with their gossip and tales.

I watched this for the first time a few days ago (having read so much condemnation of KC on here) and my thought was..”Was that it?” My God, the way it’s talked about by some people, you’d think he’d kicked the table over and stormed off! He’d lost his mother the day before too.

I know. 😂😂😂 It’s all they’ve got, though.

OneLilacHedgehog · 17/09/2026 18:17

Why do so many of the people defending Charles Windsor use such foul language and disgusting insults?

Yes, agreed. He was heartsick for children as any parent would be under the circumstances.

Quite. Charles is not stupid enough to wear C&C cufflinks on his wedding day. Diana claimed he wore them on their honeymoon, not their wedding day.

"Diana said" did not make anything true, she was a woman who became extremely adept at portraying herself as a victim.

Even her bodyguards say she was unfaithful before Charles was.

I don’t know what you mean, but I feel life is too short for this type of wild speculation.

Thread is full of imagination and speculation and “I believe”. No proof, just the pure fantasy of posters reveling in the heartache of others.

MincePieAny1 · 17/09/2026 18:20

CustardySergeant · 17/09/2026 16:24

He was already divorced from Diana, so was free to marry Camilla, and do you seriously believe he was happy about his sons losing their mother?

No, you're yet again getting the tabloid tampax nonsense quite wrong. The King did not say he wanted to be her tampon. In a conversation partly about reincarnation he actually said it would be just his luck to come back as a tampax, which naturally they made light of, unlike the disgraceful press and the British people in their periodic bouts of moral outrage. The most disgraceful thing of all was listening in to the private conversation of two people in love, the most intrusive thing you could do short of watching people have sex together, and a prurient and tabloid-loving public lapping it up.

Nobody is. They are doubting that he said it at all, not defending him having said it.

His accuser is hardly a reliable source.

I can understand that he may have been tired and emotional, but I thought he had spent his whole life being trained to follow Mama to the throne, and behave courteously in public especially under pressure. He didn't come across well at all. I think a good number of us have had to deal with stressful situations but have the good sense to "mask" until we get home and punch the pillows!

His derogatory treatment of the pen givers was unforgiveable IMV. No excuse covers it.

Camilla looked terrified that he was going to punch the pen giver. He definitely has form, the spoilt brat 😊

I am criticizing the language being used by posters on here. Why post horrible insults and dehumanising language? I don't get why some people think this is necessary

I don't think some of the recent posters have read the thread. They are just pouncing and putting others down. There are many references, articles, quotes, videos in the thread all backing up what people have been saying.

For the last time, there isn't one pen incident - there are 2 with KC in a temper and just gesticulating and whingeing. He has also been rude about Camilla in a walkabout - saying "she goes on" - tantrums galore.

That's nice.

50 odd years of "training" how to behave in public was obviously wasted on this person. Even nicer!
