School experience for William's children

I'm not a royalist by any means so forgive me if this is common knowledge. I saw that George has moved to Eton and it made me wonder how normal of a school experience William and Kate's children have? I know many on mumsnet have dc at Eton or at least they say so so is George just an ordinary pupil there? Does he have a security guard around him at all times? Do the teachers/pupils have to call him by a title? Does he always get picked in games for the best positions because of who he is? In primary school (I know they aren't at the local infants' school, not sure what it's called though) can they go for play dates to their friends' houses or to the local park to play football after school?
Before anyone replies "who cares" work is very quiet at the moment!

Oh yes, "sniffing about kids" is my thing . They are children of the most highest profile people in the country. Of course me asking if they get called Prince in school means I'm a pervert, or maybe wanting to kidnap them at the school gates. If it happens, you can tell Wills and Kate I'm a suspect There was a poster years ago who spoke about Harry in school, but I can't remember the details.

They're children, they're allowed to have privacy, especially at school.

Iirc William and Harry were just "William Wales" and "Harry Wales" at school.

As Eton is an elite school, I'm not sure that it's possible to talk of a normal school experience. I did read a piece in TheTimes by a former Eton pupil. He said that George would not stand out because there are so many boys from Royal and HNW families. He does have discrete security, as at Lambrook. I wish George well, and hope his sensible parents have helped him be respectful of how privileged he is.

A poster many many years ago talking about Harry at school? If he was still at school, it would have had to be in the very very early days of MN. And he would have been at least 16.

The Wales children are still definitely under 16 and what their parents choose to share is their business.

Of course, I'm not asking details of their reports or grades. What they get called in school isn't going to be particularly private, considering there are a lot of pupils there.

George probably already has a nickname, to replace George.

They said their ds was there around the time Harry was and just said what he was called. It was Harry Wales, just as @JustoutsideSurbiton said, thank you.

As far as possible he will be treated like an ordinary pupil, assuming they are following a similar approach to that for William and Harry. He will be George Wales, no titles used. No idea whether he'll get picked first for things but Charles used to get the shit kicked out of him at school so I wouldn't assume being royal always means being popular (hope that this would not happen these days!) There will be discreet security, presumably.

Playdates at home only for younger kids- this has been much covered and is standard for anyone with security requirements.

Well yes, I mean as normal a school experience considering it's Eton. I read a book recently by a very ordinary guy (Musa something) who was on either a full or very substantial bursary and he said beyond the weird traditions it wasn't particularly grand. He said the richest pupils he had assumed were actually the poorest due to their threadbare clothing.

No idea about school but I did once see Kate, her parents, and the children at a family day out type place a few years ago. There were two large men sitting at a comically small picnic bench who didn’t seem to have any children, so I assume they were security. But in terms of other people, it looked like they were left alone. I did a bit of a double take when I saw Charlotte come down a slide and thought “that girl looks very like Charlotte!” and then saw George so realised it was actually Charlotte. Kate’s dad was playing with Louis on the climbing frame.

I’d hope that was a typical experience for them in terms of the children being able to play unbothered (although I assume some people may have taken a sneaky picture. I didn’t!)

At their home or can they go to a friend's house? It must be awful if your friend is having a class party and you can't go.

There's nothing grand about wearing tails and a stiff white collar at school.

Having taught in a private prep where some pupils owned private helicopters etc, the royal children will be treated like any other child. They not even be the wealthiest children in the class.

I read once years ago that George's nanny would take him to the park but he'd be wearing clothes to try to disguise him, such as a paw patrol tracksuit and baseball cap. No idea if that's true or not! I never thought the family would be out in public together like that, I too hope that's a normal thing for them.

Also some of the wealthiest pupils I taught could care less about labels and consumerism. Most wore sibling’s old cast offs too which I found so refreshing!

I think it a little different discussing a person’s schooldays after the fact (when the person concerned is an adult).

They should get privacy (or as best they can) when at school. Which includes their activities with friends.

They do have a public life. If their private life isn’t shared? Then good for W&C in my opinion. It will enable them to have normal interactions with their friends as I’m sure other royal children have had before them.

Perhaps I should have asked what the lives of Harry and William were, as I assume it would be fairly similar. Although with Wills and Kate saying they wanted the dc to have a 'normal' way of life I thought things might have differed. For what it's worth, I'm not interested in the dc themselves, so no one has any need to worry.

I think William has been more discerning with regards to informing people of his private life.
