Imagine the shame of being stripped of those titles and having to share a surname with disgraced uncle Andy.

I should imagine those will be just two of the many many things they have in common with said relative.

Their titles are not in abeyance - the letter from BP itself refers to them as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. What is in abeyance is their styles, i.e. HRH. To quote the letter:

'Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used.'

Also pertinent:

'Any specific questions from official and State organisations about the courtesies which should be extended to the Duke and Duchess, and particularly where recourse to public funds may be required, should be directed to Buckingham Palace.'

So they can never trick some gullibles into treating them as official royals and HRHs or offer them public funds (e.g. for security or expenses) for performing "royal" duties and BP will have oversight over any attempts at this.

But it also says “Charles said Harry and Meghan's titles are in abeyance and they should not be treated as working royals.” 🤷‍♀️

No, cheese with Peters sourdough crackers which I am obsessed with. I’ve got some Home made quince jelly that would go very nicely with it all if someone wants to bring a nice baguette.
Obvs there is wine, I’ve got too much wine .
THEN you eat the jelly babies.

Sounds like heaven!

They snapped back at the Queen didn’t they?

You mean H’s grandmother?
Yes but that was back when they still had a lot of support and many people felt sorry for them . They knew they were going to make $$$ so didn’t care .
Nearly 7 years on it is a very different story .

On the Sky News page there is some clarity about the stakeholders:

In a letter to "relevant senior stakeholders across Government, the military and Lord Lieutenancies" the King set out the Sussexes' official status after their return from the US.

Does that mean it wasn't CC'd (or better yet BCC'd) to HAM?

I was hoping it was and at the bottom the King signed off with "Affectionately Yours, Pa"

If you follow Enty on X ( other commentators too) there is a LOT of stuff emerging especially to do with Meghan .
Not saying it is true but there is a definite theme.

I'm sure they'll use Mountbatten-Windsor-Markle.

KatherineParr · Today 17:23

I'm not 100% convinced it's about security. They are normally keen to keep out of the issue. The standard line is "this is a matter for RAVEC". I also suspect Charles wouldn't mind Harry & co getting protection. The only time we've seen them say anything was when the Queen wrote to RAVEC saying she would like them to keep security. I could be wrong of course. I'm just wondering if there's something else going on. No idea what though!

I'm not on X, could you give us a flavour?

Personally, I'm celebrating with a marmalade sandwich which I've been keeping 'for later' . . . I'm sure it's what HMQEll would have wanted . . .

Of course! It’s the only classy solution! 😁

Along with everything else, I wonder if Trump's comments stung a little. Either way, when it really matters, Charles pulls it out of the bag, ie his speech to Congress during his visit to the States, and now this. Kudos to the King.

Harry won't be happy with that letter!

And especially since it’s an open letter. It would have annoyed him enough if it had been privately sent to him.

It’s like a declaration by the Town Crier!

They won't use Mountbatten Windsor. It's too tainted

Telegraph report https://archive.ph/Wahav

Apparently the Times report (if anyone can share it) says that the letter was sent to the Sussexes on Tuesday.

I thought he was planning to use Spencer at one point? Can you have a quadruple-barrelled name?

He may run out of room on visa applications as he has four forenames too . . . .

Ooh, then we can shorten it to "Marks and Spends". Marks(her territory) and Spen(ds his Pa's money, or wants to)
