They snapped back at the Queen didn’t they?

They did and it was incredibly disrespectful. This reads like an absolute final warning and any more of their appalling entitled arrogant behaviour and those titles will be gone

No , I think it’s only the HRH that it applies to ( so sorry Meghan! No you can’t use it to send ice cream to your friends!)

And IMHO it's going to be a lot harder for her to sneak an HRH into any letters/emails she sends to 'friends' or organizations here in the UK.

She got away with it in the US because either the recipients didn't understand protocol or they didn't give a shit and got a chuckle out of her pretension.

Do I need to source the cheese platter?

Surely it should be a fruit platter, tastefully arranged in an arc to match the colours of the rainbow and sprinkled with flower petals

Not forgetting pretzels, decanted from a bag marked 'Pretzels' into another bag on which you write, in your best handwriting, 'Pretzels'

The King's letter in full:
Following the decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to relocate to the UK, we have received a number of requests for Guidance. To help avoid doubt or confusion, The King has directed that the following information be shared.

It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family. This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.

It follows that there is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used. The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity. In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.

Any specific questions from official and State organisations about the courtesies which should be extended to the Duke and Duchess, and particularly where recourse to public funds may be required, should be directed to Buckingham Palace. Any operational security issues should continue to be directed to the relevant Police authorities.

All correspondence and administrative questions relating to the couple should be sent directly to their office, which will continue to operate separately from The Royal Household.

The Right Honourable The Lord Benyon GCVO

Edit : I've asked for this pic to be removed.

Do we have to use calligraphy?

William will be in Norway for the royal funeral, if I am not mistaken.

If the funeral is on Wednesday and George starts at Eton with an induction day on Tuesday (which I think he does, not 100% sure), then William will be able to make both events.

What did he brief about Remembrance Sunday? Was it to tell us all whose rack he will be ogling this year?

I can't remember the exact quote but it did give the impression he was going to turn up at a Remembrance event expecting attention. Considering how important marking Remembrance Sunday is in the Royal family and in the life of the nation the tone was pretty inappropriate.

They will clap back because they are astonishingly stupid. They do not learn. Either way, I do think they are very close to losing titles

The really interesting line for me is "recourse to public funds". What is going on that requires BP to essentially say don't spend any public money on H&M without checking with us first?

I wonder if this is to underline the fact that they cannot expect state funded security. Pure speculation but they might have been trying to set up public appearances and claimed that their security would be provided by the Met 🤷‍♀️

You are of course correct! , however I’m the resident cheese monger and unfortunately that will be above my talents! 😉🤣

Only if you're doing it for 'friends' . . . .

I particularly like the bit about their titles being put in “abeyance “ in line with the sandrinham agreement! 😁

Interestingly jeff that’s the bit I didn’t like!

In fact I had to check in a dictionary so see if it meant what I thought it meant!!

And it does “Suspension: A pause in active use or operation.”

I don’t what them to pause doing Royal Duties, I don’t want them doing them EVER!!

Although sadly I’m sure they won’t give I fig what I want ;)

That crossed my mind. Maybe they wanted a police escort for the school run.

Did anyone else do Muttley chuckle at this?

bluegreygreen · Today 16:53

I think the 'recourse to public funds' section is linked with the 'official and State organisations', and I think one thing that has triggered it has been the trip to Australia, and the unedifying argument there about who was paying for their security.

Security here will obviously be determined by RAVEC and the police (hence the following sentence), but I think it is a reminder that they are not working royals and do not warrant any public funds being spent on them in the same way as would happen if they were representing the monarch or government.

It's just easier to put things into abeyance than remove them completely. The palace always reacts incredibly slowly and carefully and removing HRH probably opens up a whole discussion about the use of those titles moving forward that no one wants to have.

And for me the fact that the palace is very slow and careful about statements makes this one more striking.

Possibly. The next sentence in the letter is:

'Any operational security issues should continue to be directed to the relevant police authorities.'

These are clear guidelines on how anyone naive enough to want to have an event with Harry and Meghan should proceed. Basically, it's nothing to do with the palace and if Harry starts making security demands then just consult the police.

It's not impossible that for some appearances (e.g. Invictus) Harry will get state-backed security, but basically, he's a private citizen and that's how the vast majority of his appearances should be treated.

I’ve just added shit loads of lovely cheese and jelly babies to tomorrows Ocado order.
Let’s do this properly Jeff!

Agreed...this is an absolute smack down from the palace who are no doubt horrified by the nonsense that the Sussex pair have been leaking.

It’s about time too, they should have been doing that for years, no dilly dallying, in black and white, to them, the entitled clowns, as well as the whole country …. And no doubt the world once the story filters to the US, Australia etc …. I can’t wait for their clap back … once Megain has stopped ‘sobbing’ on the floor 🤡

Badvocthebad · Today 16:57

I'm pleased to see this from the Palace.
How could HaM ever be truly trusted or welcomed by the family again?
The briefings started the day they landed in the UK.
The King is ill, potentially very ill, being managed atm with chemo.
H has said vile things about the Queen, his fathers much loved wife.
The PoW has just had her own cancer dx and treatment and been targeted by sussex fan trolls.
PW has been called all manner of things, H has alluded to his children needing "protecting" (?)
I think HaM have truly burnt their boats. It's rather glorious to witness.

So a rerun of the first Remembrance Sunday after they'd fucked off and H had been told he couldn't stroll back to lay a wreath with the family. Instead they rocked up to a random commentary in America with wreaths and their own Backgrid photographer in tow.

I understand what you are thinking, I liked it primarily because of the obvious flaunting of the sandrinham summit that they clearly thought they got away with, but unfortunately for us they can’t really remove things permanently without it looking like a punishment….i think it’s also to allow them to save face!

however don’t worry for a royal statement it’s pretty much…you are out and staying out 😁
