It did occur to me earlier that they might not come and the whole furore is to flood out the ANL stuff, so the media are all talking about bullshit roles in TV series and whether the Cotswolds or Northamptonshire are a better fit etc.

Christmas has to be what works for the majority. Inviting HAM would mean awkwadness an distress for others, so they dont get an invite.

If in my family I had to choose which son to invite for Christmas I'd go for the one who hadn't called me a racist, and who had been respectful and supportive over the years.

The one who had been publically slagging me off to everyone for years, if he was now sorry and wanted to build a raltionship, could come on boxing day when everyone else had gone.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Today 12:41

I get the rationale, MrsF, but can you even imagine the uproar if they were expected to sneak into church - or anywhere else - unseen?
Once again we'd have shrieks of "racism", "they've learned nothing" and all the rest from those who can focus on nothing else

Anyway, do we yet know when they're supposed to be here, so that we can find out if this is all a load of rubbish or not? I'm more than willing to be proved wrong, but will still believe it when I see it

HAM need to tread very carefully. Look at July farce. Anymore spitting racism etc because they don't get invites, will, I imagine evoke a response from BP. It has to.

Can't remember what I was watching last night but apparently this is not a permanent move. Which makes no sense to uproot two young children but I really don't think HAM care about such matters

StrawberryWasp · Today 13:01

The prodigal son is a parable about God's forgiveness and welcoming sinners home, it's not a story about how family realtionships should work.

I think many people dont get this and find it a very difficult story becaue it seems so unfair. In a family it would be unfair.

Well they've never learned to tread carefully so far, Starryfifty, and if they disappoint the fans who crowed about their departure by coming back, I could quite see H&M using a few racism accusations to get them back onside

I couldn't say if the palace would consider this worth responding to, but doubt anything they had to say would convince the more manic fans

ETA - oops cross post with @Starryfifty

I hope this link is readable. Harry asking for answers on Ravec about security on his return. I do wonder whether he is trying to bounce them into paid for security for all the family 24/7 using the precedent he could have what they deemed appropriate If he gave them notice. If he assumes his and his family's security will be paid for by the taxer that's 5m good reasons a year for him coming back right there.

I do rather object to this "drop in the ocean" view of H's. It would be a drop in the ocean for my borough if they didn't charge me council tax. Perhaps I should write to them 😊

Harry has repeatedly argued that the taxpayer should fund the cost for his family's security as they are potentially high profile targets and he is said to believe it is just a drop in the ocean of Ravec's overall budget for royalty protection.

Harry 'pleads with Home Sec for answers over police protection'

The Duke of Sussex , who in a shock move is coming back to the UK with his family within weeks, has reportedly 'privately pleaded'.

You’d hope so but I really thing C3 is a bit of a wuss - hopefully W will put his foot down.
I’ll say it again the HAMS have some brass neck - no self awareness at all.

Starryfifty · Today 13:17

I think H's MO is if he keeps bleating and wearing people down, they'll relent.

bluegreygreen · Today 13:18

I must say I was less than impressed by the 'former cabinet minister' quoted in the times article shared by @Cismyfatarse upthread

https://www.thetimes.com/article/021437fd-2e98-468e-8244-7c54c2266c87?shareToken=c3e6fd40c9d9425d39dc3111f2085b60

A former cabinet minister estimated that the cost of providing round-the clock protection for the family of four would be between £3 million and £5 million. They predicted that Ravec would ultimately decide to grant the Sussexes armed police protection and said the King would probably play a role in the decision.

The former minister told the Daily Mail: “It is right that Ravec will, most likely, go through all the due diligence. I don’t know the terms under which it may be approached, but His Majesty will be quite extensively consulted, I have no doubt.” They added: “Ravec will be under some pressure here. They will consider what liabilities there may be if something were to go wrong. They will not want anything coming back on them.”

The Duke of Sussex, who in a shock move is coming back to the UK with his family within weeks, has reportedly 'privately pleaded' with Shabana Mahmood for a decision on whether his security will be provided and funded.

A review of his security which he controversially insists must be funded by the taxpayer even though he is a non-working Royal, was apparently carried out on the orders of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) at the end of July by its risk management board (RMB).

However, the board was apparently not informed that Harry was planning a permanent move back to the UK when it considered its decision.

Now, why am I not remotely surprised that Harry did not inform people at the appropriate time?

RecoIIectionsMayVary · Today 13:27

He should get what Anne, and Edward and their children get.

If he wants more he can bloody well pay for it.

I am so cross he thinks he deserves more, I will become a Republican if extra tax money is diverted to the stupid, selfish idiot.

bluegreygreen · Today 13:35

Agree.

The annoying thing, of course, is that it will now require a further (different) assessment with the Risk Management Board and RAVEC, for him to be assessed as a non-working royal living in the UK.

What Harry probably doesn't have the sense to realise is that he now, as a non-working royal living in the UK, has forfeited his 'bespoke' arrangement and will be treated exactly like any of the other royals in that category, with his risks assessed on merit.

RAVEC will dot the is and cross the ts, and prepare for any legal challenge, I am absolutely sure.

Starryfifty · Today 13:37

Im confused by the security issue. Does he want the same round the clock security that wlliam has, which is only afforded to working royals? What is his argument for this? If that's the case, surely Zara p can demand it ???

Starryfifty · Today 13:17

I think H's MO is if he keeps bleating and wearing people down, they'll relent.

I've said this many a time, Starryfifty, and wonder the same about the latest thing about a "big return" ... as in will it force the family to appear welcoming, and if not at least it's got us attention again so that we can whine about how hard-hearted they are

All of which is why I asked if anyone knows when they're actually supposed to arrive (All google produces is more clickbait drivel)

JudgeJ · Today 13:37

BeardofHagrid · Today 07:57

Harry should film a televised apology if he wants to live back here again. After everything they’ve said and done…what a nerve!

They should both be in that apology, she can apologise for her stupid, simpering performance on the OW thingy and her similar performance in the Bradby interview, all pauses, glistening eyes and the 'thank you for asking' rubbish. Isn't the award for dire performances called a Razzy?

rocklivia · Today 13:40

He's such an arse isn't he?

I agree he won't have thought of this, @bluegreygreen, but if they come and it happens I've no doubt we'll hear all about it Hmm

You'd hope they might find something more original to whine about, but clearly even that's beyond them

Recklessismymiddlename · Today 13:42

If the risk demands it, he can have it. Otherwise no. I want doesn’t necessarily get. I want to be a billionaire. I want to be a millionaire. Unfortunately I’m neither. I want doesn’t get.

IMHO, many people using the prodigal son analogy are people who have never read the actual parable in the Bible.

Luke 15:11-32 KJV - And he said, A certain man had two - Bible Gateway

The prodigal son is not enabled by his father. The prodigal son is so reduced in circumstances he actually works an unskilled job and eats with the pigs. That is when the prodigal son has an epiphany...after he has lost everything. And he goes back with an apologetic heart to beg his father for mercy. Not to demand. To beg.

IMHO, H is not a repentant prodigal by any standard of this parable.

Bible Gateway passage: Luke 15:11-32 - King James Version

And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took h...

She kissed a prince and he’s turned into a frog .
I think she will dump Harry and the kids in the UK and lead an “ international life “
She has no further use for him and he’s surely ruining her “brand “

But without Harry she's just yet another Z-list actress for whom time ran out when she reached 40, she won't be invited to all those contrived awards things when she's no longer Harry's klingon. She could go and live with her dad and care for him in his later years.

There’s no way HAM would sneak into a church etc if other members of the RF were in full view of the public . Remember that they were supposed to travel in the mini bus to the Platinum Jubilee service but were “ running late” so had to be taken by limousine and arrive on their own .
Then there was the shuffling around to get to their seats .

I think a lot of people do have sympathy with the older son in the Prodigal Son.
And actually if you read it, there's a lot more to it than the older son being pushed out by the younger one's return.

Firstly the younger son comes in penitence; he comes to say:
"Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants."

He does not come expecting to take back his "rightful" place as son.

But also the Father doesn't say that the older son is thrown out. what he says is:
"My son," the father said, "you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.* *But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found."

He (the Father) is celebrating, but he isn't saying the older son is wrong. He also says that all he has is the older brother's - which is significant because he's not going back on that the younger son took his share of the inheritance, so everything left does still belong to the older one. The father here is clear that he is delighted on a personal level but the older one is not in a worse position for the younger one's return.

The point is that God (represented by the father) forgives all those who truly repent. He doesn't just forgive them, he comes running to them as soon as he sees them.
But also telling the people listening (older brother) that they don't need to resent it when others (Gentiles) come to God as their inheritance is still secure.

However I think Harry looks more to the "Persistent Widow", although it's not justice he's after, it's what he wants for security. What he doesn't get is that he's already got a fair deal here so it's not the same.

Jesus said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

  • *“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

I imagine that the royals, Harry's old friends, etc will be very wary of them - nobody wants to be quoted by them or drawn into any drama at all. It could be a lonely move.

I hope that their kids will settle... I don't expect to really see them at any events as they are not working royals. I really hope they don't catapult the kids into the public eye. It would be very unfair on A & L if they were compared in any way to the Wales kids as those kids have undoubtedly received media training, gained invaluable experience over the years as to how to behave in public, etc.
