Only slightly tongue in cheek I think it might also be because they wanted to get these articles out for clicks etc before they have to clear the front page for the ANL costs ruling 😊.

I know it's been announced Harry & Co have had the costs of their case awarded against them, but thought the apportionment of those costs would take more time?

It's hardly a secret that the couples don't get on, is it?

Nothing to explain.

Particularly as I don't think A and L have ever met any of the Wales? At least not at a age they will be able to remember

Lol, where did you get this from? "Sources"? Enable them in what?

I believe that he only found out on Sunday. He may have had some suspicions that Harry was plotting something along these lines, but Harry has a penchant for springing surprises, so I can well believe the King only found out on Sunday. I also suspect this is a very last-minute decision by Harry.

Their behaviour is entirely consistent, as is that of the palace. I'm getting a strong sense of deja vu of 2020, a grandiose statement released, without consultation, claiming to be Internationally Protected Persons, claiming they would be half in and half out, would make millions, would live a life of service etc etc. The palace said no to everything, gave them a year to change their minds and made it clear they are making their lives abroad and no longer working members of the family.

2026, grandiose briefing they are returning to visit charities, send the children to school, run businesses, etc etc. It's entirely consistent that they didn't tell Charles in advance and now the palace makes it clear they are not working royals and nothing has changed.

The talk of rival courts is rubbish. One court is The Court of St James, containing the Head of State, his heir and those who represent him at home and abroad. They host other Heads of State, support charities, the military, national sports teams, undertake diplomatic visits on behalf of government.

The other "court" is a couple of minor royal/ celebrities, who occasionally visit charities and talk about themselves, make jam, tell repetitive stories of events at least 6 years ago, and have no influence or political power. They couldn't even be top dogs in Hollywood.

The only rivalry is in the pages of the tabloids and in social media people who need revenue and clicks and use celebrities for money. Only one side thinks it's a competition, the other know that they don't need to compete, or even acknowledge the other's PR stunts.

I'm coming round to this idea.

That there is no plan, just the thought that if they announced it they would get what they wanted.

Kirschcherries · Yesterday 14:19

@MrsLeonFarrell is right.

In the uk we understand the difference between Royalty and Celebrity. There is a subtle but clear difference. I said right at the start M didn’t understand the difference and that is where she went wrong. Originally I thought H hadn’t explained but now I don’t think he understands the difference either.

H has his existing charities but in the UK, charities looking for Royal patronage are going to understand the difference and want a hardworking patron. Sophie and Edward are a good example of how quietly they changed after stopping a HIHO and went about building their lives as working royals. When they were needed to step up they had 20 years experience so the transition appeared seemless.

H & M need to put in the groundwork away from the media and I just don’t think they can do that.

JoanChitty · Yesterday 14:24

If and it’s a big if, Harry wishes to reconcile with his family he needs to lie low for a considerable length of time. He could do his charity work quietly and keep his head down, no publicity and just reflect on what a mess he has made of everything. After the Profumo scandal this is what John Profumo did. He worked hard and kept silent so in the end he gained respect for his work.
I think however Harry has a big ego and could never manage to keep his trap shut.

Exactly. This is how they behave, no thought for long term consequences just constant movement and change. It's demonstrated in everything they have done since 2019. It hasn't worked in the past and won't now. But expect a tedious amount of speculation and sources in the tabloids.

Yea and it’s not just William’s family.
Peter Phillips has two teenage daughters and a teenage stepdaughter. Mia Phillips is nearly 13.
James Wessex has already been touted as the “most eligible bachelor” at age 18.

These teenagers need their tribe and they need watertight friendships at this vulnerable stage of their lives.

The last thing any of them need is to be sucked into Sussex drama or have private details drip fed to the press.

Of course the funny thing is - when the boot is on the other foot…

I mean I have no idea which school James Wessex went to, I had no idea which school the Tindall children went to until it was touted as a possibility for the Hamlets. H&M will no doubt want secrecy with respect to their own children….i wonder if all the parents at the school (and their children) as well as the staff will be required to sign NDAs. 🤔🙄

As a mum at one of the schools mentioned as a possible option, I can safely say the HAMlets attendance wouldn’t be popular with parents. It increases security concerns, and it doesn’t increase the prestige at all.

Explains everything really. What an absolute clown this man is

MrMarkhamsFanClub · Yesterday 14:31

There's that old saying, "Give them an inch and they'll take a yard" . I think H&M visited in July to dip a toe in the water, H was obviously relieved that, despite not being put up at BP, having tea with C&C (at Highgrove, not a royal residence which i think is very telling), he then assumed that everything would be hunky dory for a full-on return en famille and would be welcomed with open arms by the RF.
I really think KC will have been blindsided by this, and if the Great Return doesn't go well for H&M they will be shamelessly playing the victim card again.

Sorry I misread, it’s £9.5 million between all the claimants by next week. Pocket change then!

That's why I'm waiting to see if this "big return" actually happens, RecollectionsMayVary

I fully appreciate that "dropping thhings on the family" is very much their MO, but for me it has a flavour of "will they/won't they come to whatever-it-is", only worse

As said already though, perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part ...

Archive link to 'Balmoral summit' story https://archive.is/RjI3u

The only reference to a Balmoral summit is in the headline and first line of the story - effectively the news of H&M's return has broken as the rest of the family are in Balmoral on holiday.

Yes, and the pictures of the cars leaving the castle were the family on their way to a shoot and not on their way to a summit meeting as the headline teased.

I’m so over this malarkey already.

StaySpicy · Yesterday 14:49

From reading the ANL thread, it looks to be an initial £9m between them, then there'll be more to pay. Apparently ANL's costs so far are £34m.
It doesn't say on the thread that there's a final total yet.

It’s also terrible for security. All these families/children have been quietly going about their lives, more or less under the radar. The presence of H&M and the drama and press interest has a ripple effect to the detriment of them all.

Looks like PH is not giving the required 28 day notice for security if he plans to start his DCs at school at the beginning of term. Or maybe he doesn’t care about security anymore?

It’s such an about-turn in the face of so many public announcements, and so chaotically timed, that there must be some driver behind the scenes that we can only speculate about. NewAchievement’s list above covers most of them - another possibility is the soft launch of an eventual separation I guess? Who knows. We will just have to wait and see.

But what a way to grab the global news headlines, I guess.

King Charles gives Catherine the power to grant warrants and other stuff that frees up Camilla. Next thing, Harry's home. During the ceremony, Charles did not look well. I think that Harry is back for the children's education, but there could be a organising of affairs, then an announcement.

I agree that the only competition will be on tabloid / SM exposure and even now I suspect that H&M are already the ‘winners’ - but none of these clicks translates to either a revenue stream or reputation profile enhancement for H&M. It’s just churning out loads of ££££ for dreaded tabloids.

Paunchyy · Yesterday 15:12

Noodledog · Yesterday 13:59

What I don't understand though is how H and M could have been having discussions about UK security, houses and schools behind the scenes without Charles being made aware of it.

Very easy for houses and schools to he arranged by a handler on behalf of an anonymous HNW client - not the security tho - KC3 would have been informed if the 28 day notice period requirement was triggered. Looks like this isn't important to H&M now - not just for short private visits - but longer term day to day living with kids in public places at school, sports, etc.

I actually think if they were offered a billion to disappear quietly, they wouldn't take it. The attention is oxygen for them

Renting out his $30m house in Montechito should take care of that.
