I think emotional estrangement between the Waleses and the Sussexes may be possible, but I doubt total physical estrangement will be given KC3 and events (physical occasions) regarding him.

I think KC might meet them for tea - as so many grandparents do - that wouldn't be too abnormal - occasionally, with witnesses.

But I see absolutely no good coming out of the Wales's having to get involved. Even in the unlikely event that the children met (their ages don't coincide particularly) the poor Sussex children will probably be swept back to the US at no notice in the near future. It's probably best they all keep their distance for all kinds of reasons.

If I were W &C I would absolutely insist on it. W is in a very strong position at the moment, and KC3 can't rely on being able to command obediance if what he's asking goes against what W &C think is right for their family.

I think most people don't follow the ins and outs of the drama and public tolerance for a family who can't just be polite to each other is low.

Rhaidimiddim · 24/08/2026 10:16

I've had two of my own and have another seven grandchildren.

I have never seen any of my, or my DDs' pregnancy bumps start around their middle and descend to their knees in the course of a few hours. Wind can brow a frock around, but not make a bump disappear completely. Perhaps there is something in the water up there in Birkenhead.

There was definitely a fake bump.

So the question is why? Was she just trying to appear bigger, some women barely show at all (or just look fat, not pregnant). Or was she not pregnant at all but using a surrogate.

Thank you.

I'm going to respect the quiet consensus here that we don't discuss this particular conspiracy theory, but I'm damned if I'm going to agree that there was nothing to see in Birkenhead.

Who has not been polite?

H&M have publicly said or insinuated a lot of unpleasant things about several people. No-one else has said anything in public. Unless you count the King wishing H&M well in his first speech as King.

I mean in future if they can't behave like grown ups and tolerate each other's presence when appropriate.

That sounds like the opening line of a noir thriller.

Who has not behaved like a grown up, up to this point?

Never previously a fan of KC and Camilla, I've been impressed by their restraint, patience and good manners in this whole ghastly fiasco

You know decades ago I remember watched the actress who played Michelle Flowerer in EastEnders show how they made her bump, it was essentially a body suit leotard thing that they added layers of wadding too.
Zero chance of it slipping or deflating. Why didn't she do similar?

iwishitwouldstartraining · 24/08/2026 12:14

I'm referring to the suggestion that the Wales family should refuse to have any contact with the Sussexes or vice versa.

Perpetual bickering is not a good look, and that is what it looks like to the majority of people who don't follow the ins and outs of who slighted who last.

Who is perpetually bickering?
It's only the Sussexes who share details of their private lives and relationships for public consumption.

They just won't meet - and if they really have to at some event - like some personal family event wedding/christening or funeral - they'll do the polite distance thing.

The media will froth and I suspect they'll be lots of behind scene briefing suggesting Wales needed to do stuff coming from Sussex camp and it will be ignored.

The Sussexes and the press have their own issues at moment.

DandyAF · 24/08/2026 12:33

Re the Waleses and the Sussexes being at the same events:

What should happen (or people think should happen) isn’t necessarily what’s going to happen though.

Charles is a variable. We don’t know what he really thinks or what his courtiers’ advice is regarding ceremony & optics.

One of the events I was hypothetically thinking of (but was trying to avoid specifying Grin) is Charles’s future funeral. I don’t see how Harry or his children could be banned from attending, or probably even Meghan.

There are ways of being at the same public event and not interacting, and I predict there will be a non-funeral situation where this happens within the next 3 years.

DandyAF · 24/08/2026 12:35

I’m sure I read that Kate used to go by Mrs Cambridge and now by Mrs Wales, when not on official duty.

She did. She definitely used Mrs Cambridge when they lived on Anglesey.

They were at Queens state funeral and Harry was at the coronation - so such events have already happened.

Though Kings funeral they would be more prominent.

I agree - of course the Sussexes will be there on that sad occasion- I don’t think many people would argue with that. But as you say, it may be like the Coronation in that they just attend the service and possibly the formal reception. H and W might have to have formal meetings after KC’s death but others will likely be present to see ‘fair play’.

The Waleses haven’t slighted anyone, though, in the public arena.

As far as we know there hasn’t been any public bickering- maybe private bickering before Megxit - but the best way to prevent any is for the two couples to stay far apart. I’d be fearful that any close encounter would only provide more material for the HAM’s grievance list.

Such events have happened without H’s children.

Pertinently we - or I anyway - was talking about events specifically with H’a children present.

Depends on their ages then when such events happen - surely.

If the kids are still very young when the King dies they may not be there at all - if teens more likely and they will all be managed as Harry and Meghgan were at Queens funeral.

Prince Charles was at his mother's cornation aged 4 but he was the next in line and concessions were made for his young age. They won't be doing that on a state occasion for young children not in direct line- teens it would I think be a grey area and William could just have working RF there and his kids and next in line and driect heris - would also avoid Prince Andrew being there if he was still around.

Honestly though there's a whole load of people who job it is to think about these things and manage them. It's also not a given they'll still be in the UK when such events happen and if they go elsewhere distance may be used again to explain any absences.

I don't think W gives a care for "public tolerance" and appearances of politeness when one of the questions he has to address is, how do I ensure that I and my children (one of whom may be HoS one day, so quite the responsibility) can never be acused of being racist.

How would you know whether they meet or not? Apart from any official things that Harry may be at. As to perpetual bickering ? 🙄
