Can I ask what did happen at the garden party?

I have heard/read this version, I think from Tom Bower. Happy to be corrected if pps know more/different:

Prince Charles, Camilla, HAM and possibly some junior royals were at the GP, where the whole point is for them to wander through the crowd and speak to the guests. A special highlight, which the guests were excited about, was the chance to meet newly weds HAM. They arrived late…I think and then M said something like “We’ve shown our faces - come on, let’s go - this is boring “. They then approached Prince C and Camilla who appeared to try to dissuade them and urge them to stay. This was on film, btw, though I can’t vouch for their exact words.

in an odd exchange, M ends up jokily sticking out her tongue at Camilla - all in full public view - at which point Charles approaches them and says something, possibly telling them to go.

it used to be all over YouTube, but I’m not sure it will still be there.

What would QE2 have thought about a royal sticking a tongue out at another in front of the guests? Wow!

God only knows what was said before it, but basically a courtier takes H aside has a word and then H&M are escorted out.

Google it someone posted a link on a previous MN thread

Thank you Coffee. I wasn’t sure what the whole thing was about.

@CoffeeCantatathat explanation does make sense. It was such an odd thing to happen and incredibly rude. Plus these garden parties are a really important part of royal life, a way of thanking people who contribute to our society. Of course, I am sure you are aware of that. M did the royals a favour by walking away as this behaviour made her a liability.

I heard that she thought it was boring, and the tongue thing.
At that point I did wonder if a public facing role was for her.

I didn’t know about M sticking her tongue out. No class.

M just couldn’t cope with the thought of having to talk to a bunch of provincial nobodies for maybe an hour. I’m guessing she might have been able to talk about herself, but could she ask questions, listen and at least pretend an interest in “ordinary “ folk?

I think this incident, more than anything else, shows how little she understood and how unsuited she was for royal life.

She'd have beeni in the tower in years gone by.

You're absolutely right. She just doesn't have the ability or capacity for this sort of thing.

bluegreygreen · 23/08/2026 18:01

The video of them being asked to leave the garden party is still available if you google - some with commentary, as you'd expect.

I do think they were asked to leave - if you look at the clips, Harry is approached by the King (then Prince Charles), not the other way round.
Here is a Facebook clip (ignore the comments and the stuff about the present - I don't think that's relevant) Facebook clip

There is a slightly different take on a Reddit page that I've just seen - it seems logical, but I've no way of knowing how reliable the poster is. The TwiX clip of Camilla linked to is interesting. I haven't watched the YouTube video referenced.

One pork pie short of a picnic.

Newname26 · 23/08/2026 19:01

I hadn't realised they'd asked to leave nor the tongue thing - what a child.

Remember her on the balcony and H repeatedly telling her to turn around.

Many many reasons why she will never ever represent the monarchy or be anywhere near invictus again.

SummerNocturnal · 23/08/2026 19:10

And yet Angela Levin, who isn't backwards in criticising vocally Meghan and Harry, said she was at that garden party and the couple left exactly as planned originally and weren't asked to leave at all!

Yes! Those were interesting times, for many reasons! And hello Smile

I just cannot imagine this! If I’m wrong, I’ll be horrified.

i think the basis on which they’re back as far as KC is concerned is - live a private life quite separate from the RF.

I can’t see them being allowed to join family occasions, never mind official ones. They’ve said and done unforgivable things about KC, Camilla, W and C. Sure, sentimental KC might occasionally meet them privately at say Highgrove, but I’m hoping that that will be as good as it gets!

Why would you hope that a family remains estranged?

bluegreygreen · 23/08/2026 19:31

Probably for the same reasons as many posters on this board are advised to remain low or no-contact with family members: for physical, emotional or psychological safety.

Because HAM are toxic, consumed by jealousy and have done horrible things to H’s family.

For the sake of the physical and mental health of those individuals they targeted, I think they need to remain No Contact.

I can’t answer for another poster but from personal experience, estrangement from disruptive family members is a blessing.

We certainly didn't miss the drama in our family.

So if H slowly works his way back into being a working Royal, what stops him being CofS?

That 2022 act has been done so its reversible for H (highly unlikely A will ever be a working Royal)

Princess Anne would threaten him with her Gold Stick and take over.

BemusedAmerican · 23/08/2026 23:34

Maybe HAM could spend Christmas with their children's other grandfather, the one who spent his income not investing for retirement, but on Meghan's school tuitions, and who is currently living, minus a leg, in poverty.

Or tickle him unmercifully with her Big Feather

Seconded! How they get away with the sustained cruelty towards the unglamorous and un-rich Thomas Markle Snr baffles me.
