GBNews are reporting that Harry and Megan are moving back to the UK at the end of August.

I won't believe it until I hear it on the BBC.

Hi Neely. Report me for insubordination. Why do you care about my posting here? Go away love.

if only it were that easy

Ah, feel free to unstupid me then

I am always open to enlightenment

What does Charles do for 40 hours per week to earn his money?

Hosting, meetings with various parties, patronage of charities in various manners, speeches, official paper work, state visits, head of state duties, leading national services, conferring honours, championing change etc

You might not consider that "work", but every head of state has a similar role, including in your beloved Ireland's president who holds mostly ceremonial powers (like the monarch), appoints prime minister (like the monarch), acts as supreme defender if military (like the monarch...) , signing bills into law (like the monarch...), representing Ireland abroad (like the monarch...) etc

panomara · Today 10:11

What's the bets George will be wheeled out in his Eton uniform any day now, to re focus things away from you know who.... Can't wait.

I’m not sure why you’re so invested in this given that you’re not presumably a citizen of the UK. It does seem that the monarchy is living rent free in your head!

No, not at all.

They do seem to be living rent free though.

And all the nasty little trolls will be out in full force. Our society is fucked. So much nastiness which is fuelled by the media! Adults are worse then children for bullying!

I agree some of the fans can behave in such a manner

ShedShedShed · Today 10:13

AoifeRua · Today 10:11

Good point. Flawed example and a faux pas on my part.

So, could you tell me what William, or any working age RF member (including Charles before retirement) did or does do to earn their money for 40 hours a week?

Pretty much the same thing that Charlee does, just not the official stuff that is the Head of state role 🤷

Can’t quite see that. Anyway what’s your favourite song at a party

Irish President is elected by the people. S/He has a fixed salary and a house in the Park. Is it similar to the Monarch in that respect? I think it's the wealth, lack of rules applying to the Monarch/RF such as financial information/taxes and so on that riles people up TBH. Openness and transparency would help their image a lot.

And who wouldn't cut a few ribbons and pop up at the local shindig for a few billion a year? I would, and I'm sure many others would too, ill or not!

Justdancevance · Today 10:15

The sudden announcement makes me think that they are in financial difficulty, that Harry’s share of the ANL bill uncovered by any insurance will be quite large. I just thought the Martha Stewart signing for Netflix timing was interesting.

The Sussex’s always react in this chaotic way, which is why they won’t be allowed to be working royals again. They need to get a grip and stop clapping back, Their need for drama means that rather than announcing where they will be living and asking for privacy while they settle the kids in, they will have a cat and mouse drama which they seem to thrive on.

I was listening to a podcast who said they were probably paying 30-40,000. dollars to sunshine sacks a month only to ignore them. Their chaotic angry clap backs are always a disaster and any message is lost in their angry over dramatic languages

They have pissed off some very serious players in the US, Harry without Sentable underwriting a event seems to be gone from the Polo scene

i cant see them lasting together here more that 2 years. I think Meghan will want to get in with the Soho farmhouse crew but what will the existing members think. I can’t imagine anyone will want to befriend tbem

Well he probably will on his first day, but that's to be expected.... There's form for the kids first day at school photos... They did for birth William and Harry, and George, Charlotte and Louis.

So yeah, I expect there's a planned photoshoot of George signing the book at Eton, or standing smiling in his new uniform. It's noti like the RF can control the first day of term or anything

They are appearances, and turning up and cutting a ribbon once a week is not a 40 hour per week mandated labour

True yes regarding the president (in whom strives to make positive change).

She didn't participate in historic murder or looting though. And, Ireland don't curtsy to her or bow to any human being.

if any of us had our shit made public we’d have people judging nobody is perfect. He’s just unfortunate him giving out about his dad is of public interest- nobody can say they never gave out about a parent at least once in their life!!!!!!!!

So you do acknowledge they work just as much as your head of state....

And they don't just cut a ribbon once a week which you know full well. you're being silly now.

It's not as if Ireland is innocent in history is it ? They had mother and baby homes where mums were forcibly separated from their babies..... 800 babies buried in an underground sewer structure... Forced labour in the Magdalen laundries... Etc

So it sounds like you’re broadly happy with the Irish presidential system, but I’m still not clear why you’re so bothered about the British system, nor how your posts have any material relevance to the topic of the thread.

As an Irish person, I’ve no idea what the Irish president has been up so since elected. And she’s a lot younger and fitter than Prince Charles, but she did some ‘keepy uppies’ so that’s alright. Previous presidents have been quite intelligent and hard working and made a difference, but this one not so much as she seems rather gaffe prone.

i loved Charles speech at the US Congress, and the RF still hold a lot of power in the US, I remember the Queen visiting Ireland and thought it was a historic moment, meeting as equals on Irish turf

I was team Meghan when they got together. I thought she was bright enough to be a breath of fresh air in the RF, and I enjoyed the way she was winding up the racist right wing press.

However, their behaviour since leaving has sadly turned that around. All the blatant attempts to monetise Harry's sainted mother, and in particular the proven lies in the "Poor us" Netflix programmes and Harry's book really were not impressive, let alone his constant whinging about wanting us all to spend a fortune on unnecessary security for them. They could turn it around again by keeping their heads down and actually doing some worthwhile work, but I'm not holding my breath.

Same. I was rooting for her right up to the Oprah interview. Her lies about Archie being denied a title did it for me. And Harry knew it was a lie, but let it happen. Awful pair.

It appears to have been taken over by Irish people who loathe the Royal family.
By all means make your point but wanting the last word on everybody’s post is tedious in the extreme.

Well yes, he’ll be photographed on his first day at Eton, just as he would had they not announced they’d be coming back.

That was never going to pass without photos.

Have you any insight as regards how the RF earn their money?

So far, it is like a tumbleweed response, bar of course, the cutting of ribbons and packing a few boxes. Nothing that I can see adds up to a 40 hour week righteous graft.

I remember the speech the Queen gave and it included some Irish which I think impressed a few people.

BunnyBunbunbun · Today 10:25

Touched a nerve?

Always amusing when you pose a question asking what labour or work the RF actually do.

It is either met with a blank stare, or anger that the very foundation of their illusion of their beloved RF has been rattled to its core.

So I take it that is my answer then? Charles packs boxes for 40 hours a week!

Edited

The King is the head of state. He does whatever every other head of state who is not also the head of government does. Aside from the work of the administration of the state and representation of the state to the world (think of the state dinners for visiting heads of state or royal visits abroad), he does more than most other ceremonial heads of state do, through his charity and community works, as does the Prince (and Princess) of Wales, as heir to the monarch. This helps to create a sense of national and cohesion. The so-called working royals assist the monarch in these duties. Imagine how socially divided a country like the United Kingdom, with so many political divisions, would be without a ceremonial monarch.

Harry isn't a working royal (however much he'd like to be) so he's nothing to do with the work of the royal family.

What do you imagine the heads of state of Germany or Greece or India do?

The RF are a huge asset to our economy.

Do you hold Norway and Denmark in the same contempt? Or have you forgiven the vikings for invading?
